data cable
do i use just a regurlar ethernet cable for the pc to xbox transfer or is there a special cable for that?thanks.
|
dude
a standard network cable will work just great, i just unplugged one end from one of my pc's and in to one of my xbox's. |
hey thank you ,i was told you couldnt use a regurlar network cable when you do a pc to xbox file exchange, why those nuts told me that, ill never know, thankyou.
|
dude
why you were told that i realy don't know but i use a standard network cable and have so far backed up 33 xbox games with absolutley no problems at all later dude |
i use crossover cable but i have not tried reg.. ether
|
You can't use just a standard network cable. Its needs to be a crossover cable if your going with your XBox right to your PC, and not using a hub, switch, or router.
|
ok i have a router so do i use crossover or straight cable, thanks
|
Use straight cables. One from your XBox to the router, and another from the router to your computer.
|
great thanks
|
dude
this is my setup standard network cable plugged directley in to the xbox and the other end directley into my pc's network card (REALTEK RTL8139/810X family PCI fast ethernet NIC). I am running with flashfxp v2.0 build 907 and evox 1.8.458. windows xp pro sp1 no router or hub is used and it does work. i found that with this early version of evox i don't need a router or hub but with newer versions i do need a hub etc. windows auto reconises the connection and allows the link, i don't know why it works but it does |
dude ,tthanks
i got a router and thats even better because i dont half to keep taking my ethernet plug out for my modem, and i got one more port for my router so its better for me,thanks |
Dude, are you sure its a straight cable? I just trid to run a straight from my XBox to my PC running XP Pro w/ SP1, and a Linksys NIC. If I remember right a cable has to be a crossover to go from NIC to NIC, no matter what OS or NIC is installed. Maybe Microsoft has got some cool software that makes the NIC think a straight is a crossover?
|
dude
i am absolutley possitive it's a standard cable it's the one i got with my lan kit. like i said iv'e tried it with several versions including the newest evox, and it would only work with v 1.8.458, this should not make a difference but it does. this cable also works xbox to xbox for multi player games. |

dude
NO the lan kit i bought to network 2 pc's together, consists of 2 pci lan cards make and model stated above and 1 very ordinary standard cable cost me total of £10.00 |
Okay well if you bought that kind of a kit then you did get a crossover cable. It looks just like a normal networking cable, but if you are able to see the wire in the plugs you will see they are not in the same place on both ends.
On a straight cable your wires will be in place like this (this may not hold true to yours but it does when I make mine): S. Green - Green, S. Blue - Blue, S. Yellow - Yellow, S. Brown - Brown. This on a straight cable, both ends of the cable will be this way. On a crossover cable the cable will be like this: S. Green - S. Yellow - Blue, S. Blue - Yellow, S. Brown - Brown. And the other end of the cable will be: S. Yellow - Yellow S. Green - Blue, S. Blue - Green, S. Brown - Brown. So now that I have lost most ppl here. DUDE you got a crossover if you bought it in a PC Networking kit. |
dude
can't see the wires so can't check but if i'm wrong then i'm wrong. |
I think you find if it came in a Lan kit it'll be a cross over cable not a straight through. A straight through cable WILL NOT work from NIC to NIC, although I've never linked a Xbox
|
It has to be a cross over. Impossible otherwise.
|
ok.....networking lesson
a crossover cable is used to hook up two pc's / nic's directly. the wires are switched inside of it. a straight through cable (also known as a patch, if my memory serves me) is used to plug from a nic to a router. a crossover will not work in this respect. the wires are NOT switched in this setup. its all very easy to find on the web. so to plug xbox to xbox, or xbox to pc, use a crossover. if that doesnt describe your situation - use a straight through. //end lesson |

XBox Link Cable
I have an link cable for the xbox, am i to assume that it's a crossover cable and that i don't need a hub to connect my pc to my xbox.
|
If your talking about the "link cable" you bough to connect to xBoxes together, then you you should be able to go rtight from your XBox to your PC.
|
this aint too hard really
this thread first was good then just got prolonged its this simple u can use a straight cable to connect the pc to the box, but needa router or u can connect using a crossover cable the end |
