several games giving me backup problems

just so u know i am not knew to making backups

i have successfuly backed up halo and splinter cell and mech assualt

i am having problems with star wars obi wan and rocky

has anyone else had problems with these 2 games.
is their maybe a patch or something i have to do before i ISO it?

see after back up the game loads just fine...
on obi wan i go to load any level and the loading bar stops at 3/4 and goes no further for any type of game or level.

for rocky it actually loads a loadup startup screen for the game and then says that the disc is dirty or damaged..

so whats up with that thought to make backups is a simple ftp in copy over create an iso and burn ...

so am i missing something here?
thanks in advance

or should i just reburn them and try again?

dude 21-01-2003 00:27

dude

i never create iso images for xbox games.
i use the method i am about to explain this has worked on 33 successfull games for me including the two you mentioned.

i first started off trying to backup by making xiso's it didn't work very well for me.
this is the method i use now to backup my xbox games.

1. connect to xbox using evox and flash fxp.
2 create a temp folder on my pc and transfer all game data from xbox dvd drive to this temp folder
3. start recordnowmax 4.50 and cancell the wizard
4. select file / new / data dvd.
from the top left hand menu bar.
5. when the burn window opens. i minimise recordnowmax and double click the temp file i previousley created (enter the file as normal)
6. select all game data in this file and copy it using left click on the mouse.
7. maxamise recordnowmax and paste all data in to the burn window.
8 press burn button and insert a blank dvd.
sit back and wait for burn to complete.

this method has worked perfectley for me each time and i have created 33 succesfull xbox backups with no problems at all.
hope this helps

so

so ur saying screw making the iso and just copy the files straight up right?

if so do i have to use the utlity u use or will nero or the other burner work ..

if i must use urs for this task can u give me a link to where i can get it?

thanks !

also then how about EA sports games are these encrypted like on other systems or do they not bother with it because of the xbox's natural encyrption ..

again thanks ! will try

well it worked for rocky but i treid it on pazur dragon whatever and it didn't work didnt even partially load...

and their no default.xbe to make an xiso

is this something new maybe the dir looked alot diffrent then the other i have seen so far lots of sounds files and just files of course folder too but ussualy not alot of just files in the plain main dir..

oh well let me know what u think..

dude 22-01-2003 23:30

dude

if the default.xbe file is missing it will never load that file is essential without it you'r screwed

OSIAS 23-01-2003 18:20

LOL

well thats what i thought but i swear that it doens't have it?

are they maybe able to hide files?

are they doing somehting knew or is this embeded in the xbox os load methods?

well this sucks i will look again.. thanks dude

yeah all the others i have done keep working fine though..
so i know it works.. hmm:cool:

Quall999 23-01-2003 18:58

All games have default.xbe's, and they are not hidden. If you don't have it, then you are missing the most important file in the game, the xbox executable. This file is what the xbox looks for to run the game. If you downloaded it, which i'm not saying you did, then you were screwed over because someone played a little joke on you. If you copied it yourself, then I suggest copying it again, or at least the default.xbe.

Do you have to have the X-box connected to the P.C. and\or use a modchip for the X-box to get a backup DVD X-box game to work this way or will it play solo with the backup copy?

dude 23-01-2003 23:33

dude

you need to have a network between the pc and the xbox to get the game info to create a backup.
however you don't need the xbox connected to the pc in order to play backups.
as long as you have a working chip thats all you need to play backups

Thanks for the info.
I might give it a try.

Some other things, I'm not quite clear on.
1. What modchip are you using?
2. Do you know if DVD+R blank disc will work?
3. Does all games fit on a 4.7GB blank DVD or do you need to alter the files to make them fit like most DVD movies?
4. I have the recordnow max program but where do I find the other two programs you talked about above to read the X-box hardrive through my network?
5. I already have my X-box connected to my router for X-box live, the two programs you mentioned above in conjuction with each other is all I need to read and transfer the data from the X-box and gamedisc to my P.C. harddrive?
6. Does X-box live still work if your X-box has a modchip installed?

dude 24-01-2003 07:06

dude

1.i am using a matrix mod chip i didn't fit it but it's reliable.
2.as far as i know dvd+r should work but i'm not certain
3.i have 33 backups and all fit on to dvd-r 4.7. tho only one i know to date which is too big is metal gear solid 2.
4.sorry dude i can't tell you on the forum for legal reasons.
5. yes thats it in conjunction with a mod chip
6. you can still use live but be very care full or you may kill your xbox see my post in the xbox section. named dashupdate.xbe warning for more info here http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44307

O.K. I think I found everything and will order a modchip after I figure out this new software.
I downloaded Flash FXP1.4 and and evolution X with Xbox dashboard and bios. Is Evolutionx and evox the same thing?
Also where is the best place to order that modchip from ? There is a newer exicuter Pro 2 out and I'm wondering if that is a better way to go versus matrix?

dude 24-01-2003 13:30

dude

yes evolutionx and evox are the same thing as far as a mod chip supplier goes contact quall999, he may be of more help to you in that department as he's on the same side of the great pond we call the altantic ocean as you

backup techniques

Some of my friends have told me that the best way to copy xbox games is to get a program installed that enables you to rip games directly on to a 120 GB harddrive that you also get istalled. The only problem is that to get all the stuff necessary it will cost me about $550AUS what do you think of this type of game backup?
thanks

dude 27-01-2003 06:00

dude
i personally would not even consider that method i backup all of my games to dvd-r, if you do backup the games to the xbox hd and you get a unexpected hd failure (can happed to any pc or other hd) then you'r screwed.
it is expensive to buy all the eqpt to backup to dvd-r but in the end it's worth it as you can then back up all kinds of data including dvd movies.

just my opinion

Dude...

I just tried your method on Terminator 3, works great. What a time saver.

Cheers

dude 03-02-2004 05:17

cool i'm happy it worked for you. you'll be a xbox pro in no time.

gundam40 17-03-2004 12:03

hiya Dude!

I see you are quite the pro here, so I've got a question for you!

I'm trying to back up my DOAXBV, but using Craxtion and other XISO programs won't work, i've already screwed up like 4 DVD-R's. It seems that those programs always fail to put a file called "Fonts.xpr" in a directory into the ISO...

The directory structure of the game is like this:

main directory : buncha files, no probs here
Media directory: no files inside, only another folder called Fonts
Fonts directory: Fonts.xpr file only

I wanted to use your method (RecordNOw Max), but my burner is not supported... (I have an LG GSA4040B btw)... Is there another program like Recordnow that works? Or is there a way to get Recordnow to recognize my DVD writer? Thanks a bunch man!
