has anybody successfully done a 1:1 copy of The Thing that works?. I've tried it with Clonecd and my LG GCE-8400b with no success so far.

go get "clonxxl" it s a good software that scan the cd protection and configure clone cd to the best setting to burn

What happens when you burn a backup. Does it install? I have the LG 8106 I think and it worked first go with CLONE CD 4.01.10 Make sure you hide CD media when opening the game exe. How is the Pioneer DVD R/RW I am thinking of getting one. I do a bit of video editing.:)

yeah it installs, but when i go to run it, it just goes back to the desktop. The original works fine.

The A04 is awesome, I don't use it in conjuction with video editing but it's great for backing up dvds and ps2 games.

I haven't patched The Thing yet so i'll get the latest patch and give it another go tonight.

i have, do you mean a cd that will work without a nocd crack or a cd that will install the program, then you swap the .exe with the fixed one? I made a copy with clone cd 3.1.4 (i think that's the ver :) and it installs fine, then just dl a nocd crack and swap em then you don't even need to use the cd antmore! :)

hey dusted, I am thinking of getting a dvd burner. I just moded my ps2 with the star chip (game shark swap, only copies/ no imports, sux but cheap). I want to know how easy it is to burn ps2 games. do you just do a 1:1? or burn an image then to the dvd? I really would appreaciate any imut you have.

swapping exe files is to much of a pain in the a**. I only want to have working 1:1 copies of games.

PS2 games is a straight disc to disc copy using nero or primodvd. No games have copy protection except for EA games (which depending on your mod chip will need to be patched before burning) and dual layered games.

Also u can backup movies too.

Awesome! I'm gonna start savin my lunch money! Yeah, the main reason I got a STAR chip is because it can handle EA games. Anyways, I've been burning games forever and have almost every game made in the last 3 years, I have had VERY little luck getting games to burn 1:1 even with cloneCD on 1x. I depend on gamecopyworld WAYYYYYY too much! How do you plan on burning safedisk or securom games 1:1? I heard there was a program that can take the protection of of the disk image! How kick ass would that be!

i don't play any games on pc unless i'm at a lan. pretty much all my game playing nowadays is done on the ps2, so for me it's just the satisfaction of being able to say 'Yeah i've copied that one no probs'.

I just did Sims Unleashed (SD 2.80.010) last night - i'll never play it, i hate the Sims, biggest waste of time IMO. I only copied it cause it's the latest safedisc version. Read the disc with discdump and burnt it back with nero.

UT 2k3 will be my next attempt, also another go at The Thing this time i'm gonna use discdump and blindwrite.

you wierdo... jk :) You only play ps2 games??!!?? they're good but not half as good as pc games. Well i gues when you can rent ps2 games and burn em it may disuade you from pc titles. :) I on the other hand have a place that rents all the latest pc games too. :)

hey dusted, you any good at cracking secrom games? I can't get this NOLF 2 game to work for the life of me. and all the tools are not comp. with XP (doubt they'd work on the new securom anyways but...). e-mail me if you can. I have all the files you'd need from the game.

i don't know anything about cracking. Don't have the patience anymore. I work in computer retail, so everything is available for me to take home and 'trial'. I'm currently looking into an xbox but the lack of good games has still got me on the 'don't get one' side.

I completely disagree with your comment on ps2 games not being half as good as pc. Final Fantasy X, GTA3, GT3, MOH:F, Conflict Desert Storm. Two prime examples are GTA3, brillant on PS2 but when done for pc it was buggy as hell, and on some systems it wouldn't run. The Thing, personally i've found that it was developed for the consoles and a pc version was an afterthought.

PC gaming is anti-social. You need a space to accomodate everybody and their pc equipment. You need the time to spend on configuring. Then there's the hassle of game discs to use. Someone might have original, another may have it cracked so they don't require the cd, another might have the latest patch install, and then there's those that just don't have the game.

Console gaming u don't have any of the problems above, people just bring themselves and in under 5 minutes your up and running. Which leaves more time for the playing and the bragging.

I love lan gaming (MOHAA, UT), but i hate taking all my pc equipment over to somebody's house, only then to spend hours playing with pc settings cause one person can't get onto the network. Play for a couple of hours then take it all back home and reset it all back up again.

So what does all this mean? Is console gaming half as good as pc gaming?

No - they are on par with each other. At the end of the day, I game for fun, and aim to spend as little money as possible. At least i don't have to keep upgrading my PS2.

several good points, I'm not saying console gaming is bad, I own a ps2, xbox, and dreamcast with about 25 paid for games on each system. I have each and every one of those games you mentioned with the exception of conflict. and I plan on buying vice city.

But some of your points are rediculous, PC gaming is 10000000 times more social than console gaming! LAN is old news buddy! get yourself a broadband connection and come to play baby cause we frag all night long on the internet man! consoles can have a max of what 8 players? if you can get enough friends together. Now im not saying that isn't fun, I play red faction, blitz, TWB, and numerous other console games with my friends all the time. But when I wanna play some BF1942 (that game owns any other console game), ut2003, SOF 2, NOLF 2, C&C renegade, jedi knight 2, RTCW, not to mention the plethera of rpg titles (nvrwntr nights, DS, icewind 2 to name a few) and countless other multiplayer games, the internet is ALWAYS on! There's ALWAYS thousands of friends to make and play with. now to me that beats playing a half as good (graphicaly, I'm all about graphics)
game any day!

internet gaming is not being socialable. Personally i've never met anybody I've gamed against over the internet. These ppl that i don't know could be anyone or anything. You're not playing against a person, you're playing against someone using a computer. Whereas console gaming u know personally the ppl in the same room and are more open to having an engaging conversation which is what being social is all about. It's all about spend time, having fun and getting to know the ppl u r around. And internet gaming you're all by yourself.

To Dusted, try enabling "hide cd media" in you clone cd task bar. It should be there. The thing and other backups should work then. See how it goes.:)

i don't have problems with any other backups. I think i've thrown out the backup i did. I'll get The Thing again sometime this week and give it another go.
