Have you tried PAL Patcher ?
|
Pal Patcher does not work with this game Megalexxx.
The only way I ever got it to run was by plugging my RF cable in, instead of my Scart Lead. |
Could you please send me your 1st_read.bin ?

I have the same problem.
I have a pal dreamcast and i've downloaded and burned 3 different versions of GL but each time my dreamcast show me the music menu. I thought that was a burning problem ??? |
not the MUSIC MENU BUT THE DC MENU
Sorry :-( |
Ok guys, try this :
_ make an image of your CD using DiscJuggler _ open it with an hex editor _ look for "ED 88 28 36 89 03 88 44 8B" _ replace it by "ED 88 28 36 89 03 88 09 00" _ save, burn and enjoy ! :) |
Cheers Megalexxx, works a treat. About time I had this running right. Now If I could just get Urban Chaos (U) to do the same.
|
i'll try tomorrow and i'll post the feedback.
|
GREAT !! it works ! but Megalexx how did you find this hex strings ???
|
Easy : I'm a God. ;P
No, I just compared with my (working) version. And since I've got a few notes on PAL patches, I'm used to look for that. |
it's a very little modification compared with the kalisto patch (>500 ko). And it works with any iso version of this game. You should release a patch and up it to megagames cauz i've burned 3 or 4 CDs to make this game working and i know several pal dreamcast users in this case.
It will be usefull for guys that don't have the orignal kalisto iso. Thanks again. PS: aurais-tu un truc dans ce genre pour sega rally 2 qui aurait bien besoin d'un coup de 60HZ !!?? ;-) |
Megagames doesn't refresh its patches list. I've send some patches recently, but they didn't put them on their site.
You can't make a generic patch for all images of a single game. This is how PPF patches work : they specify the place, the number of bytes to change and the new bytes to write. There's also a control on your file's length (that's why you sometimes get a message "file size different from original, patch anyway ?") and there could be a control on the very first bytes in the file. Since each image is different from a burning program to another, there's no way to specify a static place for the bytes to patch since they can be at different place from an image to another... I wrote a program that looks for specific patterns and can then patch them, but I made it very generic. I could add this patch, but my proggy is already VERY SLOW (it scan all the image, looking for loads of data). Lots of people are looking for a 60 Hz patch for Sega Rally 2. I haven't seen one yet. Heureux de voir que je ne suis pas le seul francais ici. :) Je pensais a un projet pour lister tous les patches PAL / 60 Hz pour tous les jeux. Tu as du temps libre ? ;) |
Ok pas de problème pour ton projet.
je suis ok  |
Problems with this HEX-Code
I tried your hex-code above for gaunlet but i can't burn then the cdi-image. What can i do?!?
|
Please, explain your problem.
Try to use DiscJuggler to burn this file. |
I think I found my problem
First you must make an cdi-image of the game, right? (what settings are you using?) I set "raw read/write" and "ignore read errors" in the "advanced" folder. (-> is this ok?). Then I opened it with HEdit and I replaced the HEX-Code above. Is it right that you must check the box "Match case", when you want to replace the HEX-Code?
Because before cheking this box, i head problems with the changed image in DiscJuggler and also in Blind Write with Daemon Tools (Blind write says he founds 1 ECD(or ECC?)-Error). After checking this box i have no probs. Have someone same problems?!? The game boots now on PAL-Dreamcast with RGB-Cable. Thanks for helping megalexxx and mostly for the Hex-Code! ;) One question to this: will the game boot now on a ntsc-dreamcast or a pal-dreamcast without RGB-Cable?!?! |
I have an ntsc dreamcast with RF, and i have this same problem. I tried the hex trick that was recommended but it doesnt help. For some strange reason discjuggler doesnt work on my computer so i'm using cdi2nero v0.99.
|
the hex strings for gauntlet works for me too !!!
a big thanx to you Megalexxx :D now i have a little question, ähhhmmm is it possible to do the same for Jojo's Bizzarre Adventure ??? i have the same probs with that game thanx and bye pr3ston |
|
I also have problems with gauntlet...
First I had the same black screen thingie, but after I used the HEX-Code, it won´t boot anymore. It doesn´t even try to, the elk from utopia rotates on and on :-( |
Should Gaunlet Legend boot by itself? Cause Kalisto made it into a CUE / BIN file which should be burned with CDRWIN but isn't it so that those CUE / BIN files don't boot? Or am I wrong here (which is more that possible offcourse since I still have to burn this game).
|
Coramoor : you should make an image using DiscJuggler, then change the hex string I gave. It should work fine.
|
Sadly, it doesn´t.
Discjuggler hangs if I put in a blank cd, so i tried with cdi2nero and daemon tools+clone cd. Both the same result: boots up with utopia, but i don´t see anything but a black screen, while on the VMU i can see the gauntlet logo and i can hear sound... i have a VGA-Box since yesterday, but it doesn´t help :-( PS: Exactly the same prob with crazy taxi 1, but my street fighter 3 problems are over with the vga-box. |
I burned this game yesterday (kalisto version) which came has a BIN / CUE file. I applied the patch from kalisto first and then used Bin2Boot to make it a self booting game. After that I used CDI2NERO to make the new CDI image a Nero one and burned the game. Works excellent and I have no trouble playing the game what so ever. So you people might want to try the steps I used to get this game working.
|
Coramoor : DJ hangs a bit with selfboot images. You might have to wait for more than 15 minutes sometimes...
|
Quote:
And by the way my Gaunlet copy never booted... can this change you suggested help that too? Or should I try goint throught the Self boot tutorial or apply some kind of patch? Thanks |
Notepad won't do the job.
Try to look for "Hedit". |
Thanks Megalexxx changed the hex strings you said to an now it works on a JAP DC!!! One thing i have noticed though is the game has boarders!!!! Any patch that can make it full screen on a NTSC DC???
|
This is bound not to work (I think you'll get a black screen), but if you don't might wasting a CD, you can try this :
look for 22 4F 06 B0 09 00 26 4F 03 E4 19 40 09 24 0B 00 43 60 03 D3 replace it by 22 4F 09 00 09 00 26 4F 03 E4 03 E0 ... Tell us if it works. |
So i just replace 19 40 with 03 E0???? Is Gauntlet surpossed to have boarders then?? Cos on the title screen it is full screen, it only when you get inot the game that it has boarders!!!
|
My bad, theres display modes in options that you can change screen size!!
|
yeah man thats the way it is...runs fine now with rg cable :-).
just open the 1st_read.bin and replace the string above, then save it. Make a selfbooting disc following the echelons selfboot tut |
