Empire Earth and its .cabs?
Hi,
I'd like to make a backup of Empire Earth, by making an Image-file, opening it with ISOBuster and then I would like to open the 2 data.cap-files with WinZip or something like that. (I think in this .cabs the GAME.exe file is. I would like to change it to a NO-CD exe and then by installing the game, the NO-CD Patch will be installed automatically.) BUT, WinZip says: "cannot open C://blabla/blabla/FILE.cab because it is not in the standard Microsoft Cab format (as defined in mid-1998) The signature bytes required by the Microsoft CAB specification are missing. So what now??? If you can, please help thx name |
to handle InstallShield .cab files, use i6comp (http://protools.cjb.net).
there's a lot of information in this forum about i6comp, so do a search... |
Thanks a lot
but, eh, hey, im sorry, but I really cant find that program i6comb anywhere, Ive searched in the whole world wide web for it. I know, uve justed given me the link and all, but i cant find it. please please give me the whole link if u can thx name |
sorry, i meant i6comp, ive searched for comP, not comB
ok, thats all thx name |
also search for i6comp in these forums - there were 2 big threads on this on how to operate it successfully.

Hi, thanks a lot again
but ive got one question anyway, is it normally, that when i start the exe i6comp.exe, for a less than 1 second there is a MS-DOS window, but it closed just as fast as i started i6comp.exe??? would be glad if you help me for another time again I need help thx name |
yep, it is normal, as i6comp is a "real" win32 application working with commandline parameters.
first open a MS-DOS window (you can run Command.com in the c:\windows or c:\windows\system(32) directory, i'm not sure), then go to the directory where i6comp.exe is located, then type "i6comp" (without the quotes) to show a help screen. |

Edit: To save you having to click the search button, I've done it for you. Have a look at these two threads - it's a bit of reading, but the info is there. http://www.fileforums.com/showthread...ghlight=i6comp http://www.fileforums.com/showthread...ghlight=i6comp |
k, thx again,
now i have read it all and i do understand how it works, but... when i start the program, the whole list about the commands is listed and when i then type: "C:\Windows\Desktop\i6comp\i6comp l data1.cap *.*" it says: Install Shield 5.x Version 2.00 -] fOSSIL - 2000 [ - InstallShield 6.x Version 1.03b -] Morlac - 2000 [ - General exception bugfix by DarkSoul !Could not open data1.cap! ??????? Hey, if u can, please please help, because ive read a lot, and i theretical really understand that prog, but why doesnt it work, what am i doing false, am i doing something false??? please help thx name |
it's .CAB not .CAP !
|
i ,mean data1.caB not data1.caP
ok thx name |
make sure the data1.cab and all *.hdr files is in the same directory as i6comp.exe
btw, you best copy the i6comp.exe to your c:\windows directory or another directory mentioned in your PATH variable. then you can execute i6comp from every directory you want. |
thx
but i have the data1.cab, data2.cab and the data1.hdr in the dir like i6comp.exe But i didnt understand what y'all mean with put the i6comp.exe in C.\Windows and the .DLL C:\Windows\??? can u please tell me what u mean with this thx name |
yes, copy i6comp.exe and the zd51145.dll into c:\windows\
|
YES!!!!
Now it works!!! thx but ive got (I hope) a last question, its an easy question, how to scroll in a MS-DOS window,???? ok hope thats easy ;) thx name |
on Windows 9x/ME, you cannot scroll in an MS-DOS Window :(
now you're gonna ask: "how do i scroll through the list then ?" so i'll answer it immediately :) one way to do this, is to save the screen output to a file. if your commandline is: i6comp l data1.cab *.* then type instead: i6comp l data1.cab *.* > list.txt this will create a file list.txt containing the garbage you would see on your screen ;) |
Thank u very much
thx name |
Hi,
I know i have read it somewhere in these forums, dont be angry that i am asking anyway, but i cant find it anywhere, and yes i have tried the search button, but i cant find it. but, when i will open data2.cab it says no data2.hdr found, i mean thats right ive only got data1.hdr, but what now??? ok, unluckily once more, please help thx name |
