PAL tv vs ntsc (60hz games)

Hi

Being a complete newbie to this, please bear with me. I have recently bought a UK Dreamcast with several back up games. Some of them work fine, however others such as Crazy Taxi 1 and 2 and Jet Grind Radio are playing (I presume on NTSC video mode @ 60hz) with a flickering screen. Is there any way round this rather than buying an NTSC compatible TV???

Cheers

Have you tried PAL Patcher ?

http://www.megagames.com/dc/files/PAL_Patcher.zip

Tell me if it works.

Pal v vs NTSC

Megalexx

Thanks for the file, I've opened it up and am confused (quelle surprise) On looking at the options I can only select 50->60 hz (don't I need to go from 60->50hz??) or PAL protection. Also, it asks me to select a file. I'm afraid you'll have to explain it v-e-r-y slowly to me. Sorry.

rob1472 13-05-2002 14:58

i have crezy taxi 2 backup, i think it must be ntsc and i cant get it to boot up on my PAL dreamcast,
i have tried using the utopia boot disc, self booting it, action reply cd boot,
but none work

it was originally a NERO image.

Thanks for any help

Megalexxx 13-05-2002 15:02

Post your Email and I'll send you another version where you can select 50 -> 60 or 60 -> 50. It asks you to select the image you want to patch.

En Francais : donne moi ton adresse Email et je t'enverrai la version qui permet de choisir entre 50 -> 60 ou 60 -> 50. Le fichier qu'il te demande, c'est l'image que tu veux patcher.

thanks mate

Careful, Megalexxx... Such offers should be vague suggestions.

For example:

"Post your email and I'll contact you to help you out."

When you spell out that you'll send another version of a program, that can get you in trouble with the moderators.

lazarou 13-05-2002 23:54

nice one megalexxx

my email address is dancleary**********com

could you further explain what I add in the "file" section in the PAL patcher program, if for example I want to change the frame rate on CT1and 2 and Jet Grind Radio. Sorry to appear a dunce;)

Megalexxx 14-05-2002 00:10

Wayne : don't worry, it's just the last version of PAL patcher I want to send. It's not yet on DC Copy World, and it isn't illegal, I think. But thanx for your advice. :)

Lazarou : just check all the options you want PAL Patcher to look for (for example, 60 -> 50 Hz), select your image (open your CDI file) and then click "Search". It will list all possible patches it can find. Then, you'll have to select one of them in the list box and click on "Patch". That's all.

Wayne 14-05-2002 06:46

Ahh, cool... Just thought I'd caught you in a slip-up and thought I'd be a good net-neighbor and warn you before it went too far...

Nevermind... :)

Megalexxx 14-05-2002 09:47

Lazarou : I've sent you my last version of PAL Patcher. Check your mails.

Wayne : you're a "Die Hard Member", so you're a demigod to me. ;)
And since you try to help everybody here, I owe you respect.

Aw shucks.... :o

Nero Image

Hi there,

as you said it was a nero image.

I tried to convert my CT2 Image to nero
wirth cdi2nero09B8 (is the latest version)

The convert was ok, but after burning with
nero the prog is not starting.

But now i am able to burn with Discjuggler,
just burned the CDI and it works perfectly.

I have the pal version.

:)

Re: Nero Image

I also need that pal converter. Does it convert any ntsc game to pal? My email is [email protected].

mina 20-05-2002 12:41

Re: Re: Nero Image

I failed in converting super street fighter 2. I had 60-50 hz checked and pal 1 & pal 2 also checked. Then I opened the image and pressed search and then some process began but never became button patch available. Can you help me? I need instructions and if that doesn't work with all games a list, which tells what games are possible to convert from 60 hz to 50 hz successfully.

Megalexxx 20-05-2002 14:11

If it doesn't list any code in the list box (in the middle of the window !) it means it can't find anything. If it finds something, it tells you "60 Hz code found", or something like that and then, you need to select this line in the list box and press "patch".

I can't give you any list since there are over than 500 games and I didn't look in all these games. If it can't find 60 Hz code, it means this particular code can't be found in your image. It's an other one and I don't know it.

Did you look on DC Copy World ?!?

mina 21-05-2002 10:18

Yes I looked on dreamcastcopyworld but couldn't find anything essential on this matter. Give me some game, which definitely is 60 hz and possible to convert with that patcher to 50 hz. I have tried virtua striker 2, record of lodoss war and super street fighter 2, none of them went the way you told me.

Megalexxx 21-05-2002 11:18

Wow...
I can't remember of a specific game...

Anyway, it works.

mina 22-05-2002 08:17

Say one so I can really see that it works. It seems also that divx player needs 60 hz tv to work properly. Is there any way to make that work on that lower amount of herzs?

Megalexxx 22-05-2002 08:55

I found in a NFO that these games were running at 50 Hz :

Powerstone 2 (JAP)
Resident Evil : Code Veronica (USA)
Space Channel 5 (USA)
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (USA)
Dead or Alive 2 (USA)
Virtua Tennis (USA)
KOF99 Evo (JAP)

I think there's a way ... if you're pretty good at SH4 asm in hexa.

Spaceboy 22-05-2002 17:26

could you also send me the pal patcher [email protected]

mina 02-06-2002 00:34

pal patcher seems to be crap

I downloaded one of the above mentioned games in this case mvc2 but when I opened it there wasn't any text in the middle box and neither patch button available only search like in every game I have tried to patch.

Megalexxx 02-06-2002 02:48

It can patch about 50% of Katan games (no WinCE games). Read the NFO. It's the only patcher able to find automatically so many protections I've seen around.

By the way, if you can help me to find more patches, I would be pleased to put your name in my "greatings section".

Megalexxx 02-06-2002 09:28

Just a silly question : did you open your iso AND press "search" button ? Obviously, only opening your file won't do anything...

mina 02-06-2002 15:51

search has been the only button available after opening images

Megalexxx 02-06-2002 23:57

Logic.

If it can't find anything, the specific 50 Hz code isn't in your game. Unless you know exactly what the code is in this particularly game, you won't be able to patch it.

Dorian Grey 09-06-2002 02:49

I'd also be eternally grateful if you could send me the version of pal-patcher that can transform ntsc->pal via email:
[email protected]
thx in advance :)
DG

mrrobot 03-07-2002 07:05

Can you send it to me too, pleeeaaase:) :) :)

[email protected]

or tell me where to find it on the web.

thanx
mr

mina 03-07-2002 13:50

crap

It's not worth getting it cause it changes nothing at least as far as I have noticed.

Megalexxx 03-07-2002 23:52

Mina : it had loads of games work on my PAL DC.
That's why I called it "PAL patcher".
If I remember, you need something to change your games refresh rate. That's not what my tool does. It can do that on a few games only.
