Mr
The light comes on but nothing else happens. He burned a little do-hickey(that's the technical name) off the board. I bought it new, but it was over a year ago. Apfter he *%#%ed it up, I bought the kids a used PSX. Thanks

when you open up your system and put in a chip it voids the warranty,(common sence)

The PS one has a sticker over one of the screws, once the sticker is broke so is your warranty, if the knuckle heads at Walmart know anything they'll look at the sticker and see it's busted, if they do you will be arrested for shoplifting.
|
belive me there dumbasses
half the peps that work wal-mart dont even cheak and see if the serils the same on the systems more less a seal lol thats what it a fail safe plan works for me all the time be sur not to use ur real name on the recipt when ur ask to sign it :)
|
hmm shoplifting ur own goods thats a new one lol we got caught trying to return a dif ps1 in the new ones box they just sayed they cant help us they did'nt call the police lol but if some one every gets acused for shoplifting ur own goods be sur to make a quck exit with ur ps system dont worry about the buzzers they wont alarm on ur own system and not to vist that wal-mart any time in the future
|
I was kinda' askin' for a tech answere as opposed to "shoplifting 101":o

if you take your system to someone that repairs playstions they might be able to fix the problem cheap.ps do you still have the diod that came off the board, that could come in handy.because when you were sodering the chip in, the soder may have got to hot that was holding the little do-hicky to the board.you might have to just soder it back in place if it is not damaged.

Good luck trying to solder another little diode onto the PS1 board in exactly the right spot. I buggered a board
the same way once-the iron got too hot and lifted about three diodes off. What a poofter that was. You're better off ditching that consul for spare parts and buying another PS1.:D |
it can be done you just got to know what your doing.there is alot of people that can do it.

Are you one of those people?
|
no but some people that does repairs on playstation can do it.the same thing happend to my girlfriend, her brother tried and did the same thing.they sent it away and now it works good as new.

Do you still have the original component that was burnt off!
Its not easy to re solder them but it is possible, the problem comes if the pcb tracks have been burnt off as well. I have repaired an bum mod on an SCPH5502 before, a steady hand and small, not too hot soldering iron can do the trick, but by making a repair you may only find more problems! Lippo... think you may have been using a mig welder! (lol) The trouble these days is that it's a throw away society as far as technology is concerned. Things are made so small these days that you usually find that it isnt economicle to repair. Your best bet would be to try and source a new main board for your ps1. Then make a decision if you think its cost effective! |
Has anyone ever dealt with www.videogameaccessories.com ? They have a pre moded main board for $60 + $12 shipping. A premoded board might be a good way to go for someone dumb eneough to toast one:D

It's not shoplifting your own goods when your returning a different system instead of the one you purchased, with a warranty label attached to the product and you bringing it back torn off they have every right to consider your trying to rip them off by returning different item then the one originally purchased and prosecute you for attempted theft.
I'll admit Wal-Mart probably won't think to check but you'll be paying 3 times the amount for the playstation if they do and you get caught. |
na just goto a wal-mart not in ur area
lol and if the dumb asses catch on and say there going to call the police just run and have a getaway car rdy or be a track star i did it b4 just never go back to that store for a long time :) they wont worry to much about it sence u did'nt take any thing but ur old ps1
|
I can probably help...
Which component did he rip off the board?
Do you have a digital camera so that you can take a picture of the board and send me? I am positive that it is a surface mounted fuse that he has destroyed, I had the same on two consoles I repaired for some low-life modder which had used a blow-torch instead of a solder iron (anyway, the console looked like that anyway...) If you can give me the location on what pin on the chip is wired closest to the component that is busted, I will tell you what to do |
Thanks elfranger. My digital camera isn't good enough for close-ups. It the connection closest to C718
|
It is possible to solder the component back on but you will need a needle fine soldering iron bit and a pair of tweezers to hold the component. Melt a small amount of solder to the track then using your tweezers slide the component up to it, take your iron off and then solder other end. WARNING if it is a diode you are replacing then you must make sure that it goes the right way round
|
You can send it back to sony yes for £35 +your broken one they will give you a recondishined(not good at spelling)one .dont worry about the chip as ive taken the chip out and when i got the recondishened one put it back in ........maybe not worth it now but when i did it they cost £80 ps they collect the broken one on the same day (swap)as you get your recondishened one...
