PS2 No-Solder R-Mod (SCPH-3000xR)

does ANY of you cool dudes use this? if yes, can you tell me if it really does play all ps2 DVD+CDR and ps1 CDR? thanks, also, if u know sites where i can get more info, i would appriciate it.

NightStalker 08-02-2002 06:07

I have only tried a few dvd-r backups but i have had no problems getting them to load using the double swap method, All PS2 and PSX originals and cdr backups work perfectly.

priest 08-02-2002 06:16

thanks nightstalker. are you in the UK by any chance and do u know of a cheap place i can get it online?please let me know once u tried some ps2 cdr backups on it. just to confirm , your "doubleswap" trick is using the ar2/gs2's cd1(for dvdr) to boot, then swap for backup, right?

NightStalker 08-02-2002 17:02

Correct,I use the same double swap boot method as required by the neo 2.2 to boot dvd-r. I am in the US so i use the GS2 1.93. I got my chip from lik-sang, as far as i know they still ship to UK so you shouldn't have to hard a time finding one.

priest 09-02-2002 10:52

thx again nightstalker,i'll probably pick one up from lik sang too. BTW,are there any issues with me using the no solder r-mod with an action replay 2.2?

NightStalker 09-02-2002 14:14

According to lik-sang they work with AR2 v2.0.

priest 10-02-2002 15:18

guess i'll have to find that out myself!ah, i read that basically the no-solder chip is a neo2.2 on a pcb,and isn't neo2.2 known to damage the ps2 without the capacitor? doesn't the same apply here?

NightStalker 10-02-2002 19:00

It's not a neo2.2 modchip, Its a fancy tray eject system. Once the boot code is injected into the PS2 it allows the tray to open without the PS2 knowing it. This chip basically works the same (in principal) as preforming the cog,Knife method only the chip ejects the tray instead of having to use a plastic knife or card to make it eject, DAMN smart idea IMO.

priest 12-02-2002 09:42

interesting nightstalker,i thought aarkon said it was a neo2.2! but i think ur right, since it only connects to the power/eject button!either way i'm getting it , my AR2 2.02 arrived today but have yet to buy the no solder chip :-(.
hows yours working out? any problems so far?

NightStalker 12-02-2002 15:23

Works perfectly, Boots every cdr and dvd-r backup i own first try. I am told it has a problem with large TOC dvd rips but i have been unable to test this. ( I dont bother with dvd rips).

priest 12-02-2002 16:47

now zat is weird...but i'll live without DVD-RIPs. thx. will let u know how mine turns out, probably i'll go rip the 2 cables when i install it!

wasabi 15-02-2002 11:29

To NightStalker & priest:

Any trouble with no-solder R-MOD chip so far? I'm planning to get it for my 30001R PS2.

I'm giving up on Neo 2.5 DVD. I want something that can boot DVD backup and PS2 backup...

Thanks!

priest 15-02-2002 12:32

will let u know this week.ain't in stock yet. nightstalker said his's fine

ste303 19-02-2002 05:02

I ordered one of the solderless mods just before liksang went out of stock as my 3rd party neo wasnt upto the job of booting DVDS on this PAL V5. After having no problems installing the mod i was initially pleased to see it was having no problems with DVD or CDR backups.

However, the last 2 CDR backup games i tried to load have failed.
ive heard a rumour that 80 minute games dont work with this mod. They sure dont seem to for me.

Anyone have any ideas?

priest 19-02-2002 13:46

ste303,i've heard the same thing but no confirmation just yet. i'm in the UK and its IMPOSSIBILE to get one local or online! pls let me know as you try out more backups on it.

ste303 19-02-2002 22:56

i just went through a 96 cd case of backups, every game which was over 74 minutes, DID NOT BOOT. end of story i think. This mod definetly has issues, thanks very much to everyone who recommended this mod, what a waste of time and effort. If you are wondering i own a SCPH30003R, with Action Replay V2.

priest 20-02-2002 04:03

damn it, well, it was too good to be all pefect given the cheap price i guess. thxs. i also own a v5 pal ps2 and action replay 2.02. nightstalker , did u get this? have you tested yours with 80mins cds yet?

NightStalker 20-02-2002 04:31

.
Step 1
Boot up PS2 with the GS2 v2.x

Step 2
At main menu, press eject and swap GS2 CD with a large original, (650+ mb original game)

Step 3
Press Eject to close (Wait for 20 seconds).

Step 4
Select any Game code list, and turn on or off any code on the list, then press start to go to the with/without codes menu

Step 5
Select with codes, then Press X. It will say “Update Code List” and the cd will stop spinning.

Eject the original using the rmod method and replace the 650+mb original game with the 80 min cdr backup, You have about 8 sec, tray will close and game will load............................This is the same problem this mod has playing large TOC dvd rips. The above solution solves this.

nightstalker, then i take it that with the method you given us, you managed to boot every 80mins cdr backups?

trilidar 20-02-2002 07:10

Which reminds me..

What's the story on EA games and 'No-Solder'? Still need a patch and screwball swap method? Since I currently don't own any EA games, I haven't tested.

NightStalker, EMPiRE or anybody else know?

Much thanks in advance.

So far it has, Its done with the same method used to boot dvd-r backups only instead of swaping the GS2 for a original dvd game you swap it with a original compact disc game that has a larger TOC than the backup game you are trying to boot.

Not sure about that one trilidar, i did have a usb mod so all of my backups that required it are patched.

ste303 21-02-2002 00:30

NFL blitz 2002 is one game which doesnt like to boot, has anyone got this game booting with nightstalkers method or something else?. It is a 74 minute game but requires a different booting method on 'non modded systems'. So far i have had 0 luck getting even the drive to spin up with it.

NightStalker 21-02-2002 04:02

How many mb is it???

theres an interesting discussion over on the ISONEWS PS2 forums regarding this game, seems like im not the only one having problems booting it. I would appreciate any help getting this bloody thing to work.
