Hey guys!

I`ve got Gothic 3 1.8 [Multi] working with the full patch.
Everything you need is a Virtual CD 8 image of Gothic 3 and the fixed image from GCW.

If you mount the fixed image and start Gothic 3, the mounted image will be dismounted. And the game will not start.

I went into the Virtual CD 8-installation folder, looking for a file through Gothic 3 gets control of the mounted image.
If you rename the dll "vc8api.dll" in the ...\Virtual CD v8\System-folder to what ever you want, Gothic 3 can`t dismount the image.
So you can play every version of Gothic 3 [Multi] without changing any game-files.

Am I good? ;-)

I did everything you said but the game won't start. It keeps asking for the original CD and sometimes there's an error with a DLL file. I tried for 40 minutes but it didn' t work.

That`s right. But the others can use your great noDVD.


You have to follow the steps in the readme-file which comes with the fixed image at GCW.

The problem is that's in german. Do you know where i cand find an English translation of that?

Okay, I thought it`s [Multi]. But it seems that the fixed image is only for the german version. Sorry guys!

this is the problem that most people have.

1. : the translation of the readme is in german.

2. : ( Everything you need is a Virtual CD 8 image of Gothic 3 and the fixed image from GCW. ) They all know of the fixed image from GCW, but they have no idea where to get the virtual CD of gothic 3 or how to make it.

basicly instructions are written very very poorly, and thus they give up after few retries.

easier to just use the partial nodvd patch.

1. Download Virtual CD 8.0.0.4. (41 MB)
2. Download the fixed image of Gothic 3.
2. Install Virtual CD 8.0.0.4
3. Make an image of your Gothic 3-DVD using Virtual CD 8.0.0.4:

--- Start Virtual CD 8.0.0.4 ("Virtual CD - Toolbox" opens)
--- Doubleclick on "Erstellen einer virtuellen CD"
--- Click on the button you can find right of "Kopierschablone"
--- Click on "Öffnen >" and then "Auswahl"
--- Choose the "Gothic 3 copy.vps" you can find in the archive you have downloaded before
--- Back in the mainwindow click on "Fertig stellen"
--- The image-making process will start

4. Now go to the folder you have saved the image into and search for a file called "GOTHIC3.vc4".
5. Change that file with the fixed image you have downloaded before. (The name has to be the same as the old one!)
6. Back in the "Virtual CD - Toolbox" doubleclick on "Virtual CD Einstellungen ändern" and then move to "CDs/CD-Laufwerke"
7. Change the Options like in that picture.

8. Now go into the folder you have installed Virtual CD 8.0.0.4 into. Go into the "System"-folder, search for the file "vc8api.dll" and rename it.
9. Now deactivate all your Virtual CD/DVD drives (Like the ones from Daemon Tools or Alcohol).
10. Rightclick your first CD/DVD-drive and choose "Ausgewählte virtuelle CD einlegen" and choose your Gothic 3-image.
11. Now start the game. After 3-4 trys it will start.

I must say Great work to raymerjacque and grayx, but I have some problem. In many caves are some graphics bugs. When I went to Goxxx (city where is demon [paladins' stronghold]) and there is cave where you can find teleport rune to Vangard. And there is one of such graphic bugs. I have on walls and floor red parts of them.

What is on red it is example of part of floor which is bgged. Not good image, but I do not have time to do better one =(

Well, if the German mini image is only for the German version then it's not a problem that the instructions are also in German! :) (And I'm not gonna struggle with the translation either...)

Yes i am aware of this issue, i have come accross it myself, unfortunetly it only affects the people using shader 1.4 , if you are using shader 2.0 or 3.0 you will not get this. if the bug does surface it is only inside caves. One way around this is to not use the custom shader file inside the nodvd file, use all the other files, but do not use the shader file. Anyway this bug is not major, so you see a little red on the walls inside some caves, no big deal, atleast you can now play a game you couldn't before, some red shader affects on cave walls is small price to pay for performance boost. Like i said tho, you can allways just not use the custom shader file if you are one of the unfortunete few experiencing this problem.

hmm ok, i have made a fix for the shader problem for those of you that experience red shader affects inside caves. Just check my signiture. if you are having shader issues and seeying red shader affects inside caves, then download the "fix number 2" in my signiture below and extract it to your gothic 3 folder.

crossbow action is much more fun now ... no crashes so far

but the dessert is kind of foggy now :confused: (distance view reduced)

For those who have problems with movement delay, here is de solution:
Go to the Windows Control Panel. Open the keyboard folder and move the first two slides to the left. Moving like a fish in the water!!!

Where can the newest patch's (although only beta) changelog be found?

The one below in my signiture is made by few people, not just me alone, and it is mostly custom fixes, custom shader files, custom fixes for boar problem, armor fix, performance tweaks etc. when the 1.08 patch was hacked, we were only able to hack it partialy and as end result screwed up some of the fixes that the patch fixed, so we then dug into the pak files among other and made the fixes ourselves, thus you see all the extra files in the nodvd patch. the end result was better than we exppected, not only is the patch hacked and all updates working, but we managed to give the game a huge performance boost for those that do not quite meet requirements, what a bonus ! if links to the file below is found anywhere else on the net, they should atleast give credit where it is due.

( there is no readme or list of fixes written, mostly because this was made for private use. the only reason i uploaded it was because i could not watch anyone else suffer anymore, no hackers were hacking, they were instead giving out feeble excuses about protection being heavy etc .. so i descided to share it with you, I do not force or encourage priacy, i have to assume that everyone that uses this file has an origanal copy, if they don't it is their problem, not mine. the nodvd patch works, just be happy and enjoy the game :) )
