Because, if you have read anything here at all, you still need a valid Steam account to play.

THIS CRACK IS NOT ABOUT BYPASSING STEAM!

Man..I hope the warez kiddies leave soon.

It seems you haven't read/understand the very first post in this thread !!!
The hijack-Crack isn't for skipping the Steam-Activation, only for playing the the Retail-boxed-version without CD/DVD !!!

EDIT: Now i have overlooked Talus' Post. Sorry!!! http://www.fileforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

Ollibolli 28-11-2004 06:32

Will there ever be a version of this patch that works with CS:S as well? Or is there any easy way to get CS:S to use the steam exe instead of the retail one?

I won't get my DVD-player in a week or so, but I'd really like to try CS:S before that...

Is anyone else upset they chose to protect the retail DVD with a copy protection that conflicts with cd/dvd-emulation software? Yet another reason I should have bought the game over steam instead of retail, I don't want to get rid of daemon-tools just to be able to play. It sucks when copy protection causes problems for the legal users, and does next to nothing to stop piracy...

Thanks a lot for the patch hijack, it has saved me some serious trouble... :)

sabbey 28-11-2004 14:21

Actually, I don't know, but would like to play CS:S as long as I can play against the AI instead of going online against others. I never played a multiplayer game, so I want to test it out first. Any ideas if there are bots or some sort of offline mode in the works for it?

As for the CP, well, it was a stupid decision in this case. It already has activation required, by making it have CP as well, it's just overkill and another way to screw over legitimate consumers, while doing nothing to stop people who will pirate it. Eventually, this will bite the game companies on the ass, in the meantime I'll come here for NO-CD/DVD patches! :D

It already works. CS:S uses the same hl2.exe (protected or not).

intallation on two comps

Hey guys isn't possible to install the game on more than one computer? I tried to install it on another but it wont let me because it says the cdkey is already registerd, which it is. So are they saying that the game can only exist on one computer per copy? I would appreciate any help. Thanks

paketep 28-11-2004 16:26

Ok, so Vengeance just released a Retail HL2 version with NoCD crack and Steam emulator. Does anyone know if it also works for the UK retail DVD?

YES! Read the software license came with the game !!!
The solution: Buy another copy for the other PC !!!

In France authors can't forbid you to install the software on another computer if it's the only way to use it. For example you're allowed to install it at home and at work even if the software license forbid it.
So, installing HL2 on two computers may be legal, depending on your local laws and your intentions. Why do you ban people asking a way to do that? It's a normal "game copy".

Edit: Even bypassing Steam activation may be legal in certain conditions

1a. He isn't from France, he comes from UK.
1b. "...if it's the only way to use it." How can it help to play the game on PC#A, when i install it on PC#B? If PC#A don't have a Internet Connection, you can install STEAM (not the game) on PC#B to register the Serial-Key and create a Steam-Account. If you want to play the game on PC#B you have to deinstall it on PC#A.

2. Because of the Board rules!

3. perhaps, but if anyone discusses about it on this board, he/she will get banned. (Reason: see 2.)

Dont have DVD rom!

The Hijack file seems to be working fine. When I start it, steams starts up.. But that is isnt solving my problem..

I got my hl2 copy as a gift.. The problem is that i dont have a DVD-Rom...

I installed the game through the network. My neighbor has a DVD-Rom.

When I wanna start to play the game, I have to confirm my CD-Key in the Steam Browser.. When I have entered my key correctly, Steam asks me to insert my HL2 Copy in the cd/dvd rom..

Is there any ways to bypass this without buying a DVD-rom or borrowing one..

Dimensio 29-11-2004 14:52

You could set up hijack_hl2.exe to launch by putting a shortcut in your startup directory, and making sure that the "working directory" of the shortcut actually points to the correct location where steam.exe is located.

If that fails, then a simple batch file that manually switches to the correct directory and launches hijack_hl2.exe should do the trick.

Someone asked about (and was subsequently banned for asking about) installations on multiple computers. I'm not sure that this actually violates the license agreement, as Steam makes it pretty easy to do this. The problem is that once a CD key is registered with Steam, it will appear as though it is impossible to register the game again, because installation always asks for a CD key -- and this will be a problem if you reformat and reinstall the game on the original machine, so it affects more than just those who are installing on multiple computers. The solution is to simply hit "Cancel" when asked for the CD key after you've already registered it. Since you've already registered the game, Steam will authenticate when you log in again.

This type of stuff I do not understand. You have the graphics card and processor etc to play the game, but cant spare the 15-20 bucks needed to buy a dvd rom. Get a job, you bum!

krimson 30-11-2004 00:29

im having some serious issues with this, or my cracked hl2.exe or something.

i get a "cant connect to steam" issue about 2 mins after i am in the game, and then if i click ok, the game closes.

if i dont click ok, it plays for about 5 mins tops, and then gives me some memory dump errors and the game crashes.

but NOW, since trying this hijack stuff and all this, all my folders on ALL my drives are read-only and wont change back..

so, im a little upset, and i dont know what could have caused this. formatting isnt exactly what i wanted to do before i played this game.

Grumpy 30-11-2004 01:15

@Krimson
To get it working again why dont you put your original files back where they were and delete Hijacks files for now (just until you get it back to working order) Get it back to all original first, then go back to hijacks files!
Not that I am going to tell you how to do it, just yet anyway, but dont go formatting your drive just because your files have changed to Read Only!! They can be fixed! ;)

You was asking if the Crack and the Steam Emulator is working.
So i was telling you to read the first post in this thread where you can find this: Steam Discussion is not allowed.

That was my intention to ban you (for 10 days only!).

I dont know why i write this, because of board rule #11: I don't have to justify myself!

Just get yourself a dvd-rom, they aren't expensive. A perfectly fine dvd-rom can be bought for a mere $30. 16x dvd, 48x cd.
It's not like you will be buying a dvd-rom JUST for HL2. In the future many more games will be released on DVD only.

Hi all,

For the people without DVD Drive´:
I installed the game on my notebook (worse graphic but dvd drive) and installed it via mapped network-drive on my other pc (good grapic but no dvd drive). I installed steam on the notebook and on the other pc with the same steam account. Halflife 2 works fine with the no CD crack installed.

Greetings.

1.1 update or whatever the update is called..

hi there
i'm one of those u are not using steam and i'd like to get the 1.1 update
does anyone know whereabouts of that patch?

thanks...

westie 01-12-2004 10:50

Is using the NOCD patch illegal and can you get your Steam account banned from using it or is it not possible to detect. As I dont want to use it and find myself having to buy myself another copy of half life 2.

Teknonow 01-12-2004 11:29

Isnt Working

When I try to play hl2 after using hijacks files it comes up with the notice, the game is not ready to be played in offline mode. I have the settings set for offline and was able to play before i installed those files. THanks

A Valve employee said that the patch does violate the Steam EULA (because it modifies the program during run-time), however I'm not sure that they have any current means of detecting it, and thus far my account has not been banned for using it.

venom4911 01-12-2004 18:33

i bought the 5 cd version but i hate having to put the damn cd in drive to play everytime...i tried the hijackhl2 thingy and it dont work...followed the instructions perfectly...i go to load hl2 and then it gives me an error saying this game is currently unavailable...

any ideas?

Why would you even want to risk getting banned by using it then (especially if its only a matter of time). I know you gave me the program and I thank you very much for that but if i'm going to end up taking that big of a risk (knowing that it is indeed illegal then why bother :( ). Please, don't get me wrong I hate having to use the DVD to play everytime BUT I don't wanna take a risk that severe (especially a severe risk with a time limit)..

Grumpy 02-12-2004 00:44

@Arkane0690
There is no risks if you dont let it connect to Steam. I went thru the whole game, useing Hijacks first crack, and have never let it connect online since! When you do want to udpdte just swap the original files back over. No Risks taken then. ;)

Dimensio 02-12-2004 03:03

Anyone tried hijack's fix with the latest Steam/Hl2 updates? The hl2.exe executable might need to be replaced, but you should be able to extract an unprotected exe from source engine.gcf

Grumpy 02-12-2004 04:51

@Dimensio
Yes the Hijack crack still works with the latest Steam Update. But this is how I did it. Firstly I moved Hijacks cracks (the 3 files, I am still using Hijacks first crack) to a different folder, and started the game in online mode to get the update. Then after updating i shifted Hijacks crack back to where it should be. Then disabled my Internet connection and started the game in the Offline mode. Everything works fine still without the CD in the drive. And I only updated today! ;)

Sounds like you never fully completed the registration process. Go to Steam, right click on Half-Life 2 and pick Properties. If it says Offline Mode Not Ready, then you're not done. Just leave Steam online for the day and it should be done by the time you get back.

nope..it says offline mode: ready

hijack thing still dont work...

Arkane0690 03-12-2004 01:04

:(, replaced the hl2.exe with the one I extracted from the source engine.gcf and it says same as venom "The game is currently unavailable". I do remember hijack talking about the unprotected hl2.exe being *DISABLED* . If using hijack's "FIXED" exe is the only way to ENABLE it then, why tell me to extract it in the first place :p..
