Crack does work.. sort of

Ok folks, I'm here to set this straight. First off I should mention I have a copy of both the International CD, and the US release on DVD only (don't ask why.. I just do :p ). I've tested this out with both versions, and from what I can tell this is why it works...but doesn't. Also, this is not a nocd/dvd.. but infact a Fixed EXE:

1) This crack works perfectly.. and I mean perfectly with the International CD version. You can tell which one you have because when you installed the game it asked you what language to use, and there would be a list of about 15 or so different languages to choose from (International DVD is the same). Also, on the CD/DVD will be a list of 15 *_filelist.txt files.

2) This crack DOES NOT work with the US DVD. At this point I have to assume the CD release as well, however this is untested. Again, you can tell due to the language list. The US release will have only 2 languages to choose from, and will have 3 *_filelist.txt files on the both the US CD and DVD.

Now before you flame me, read on: You see, in their haste to put this crack out Money forgot to remove 1, simple, little, check.. and that check being the one for the *.TMP files. (Money.. I commend you on getting this crack out.. superb work.. but you need to fix this issue before I give you a 10 outta 10) Why is this such a big deal? Well, the US DVD release only has the 00000001.TMP file, which is sized at 20mb vs the 2kb size of the International CD release (there is also a 00000002.TMP file on the CD but this file is irrelevant to the fixed exe).

I've tested this over and over again by redoing a backup with and without that file, and as soon as I add the 00000001.TMP file from the International release CD to the US DVD backup (overwriting the 20mb *01.TMP file) it works without a hitch. If I remove that file, and put back the original, it refuses to run, and gives me an error telling me to insert the correct CD/DVD. It's been posted that the crack does not work with the US CD release either, even though it has the same *.TMP files on the CD that the International one does. This is could be due to the 00000001.TMP file being of a different version than the one used in the Intenational CD release (this *01.TMP file is part of the Safedisc CDCheck routines).

Of note: this "Fixed exe" was released with Moneys releases in mind, however, on those releases the 00000001.TMP file is only 2kb (or so the filelist of those releases shows). I have to assume this was either a mistake by them, or was a way to protect their releases.

Hope that helps you guys out.

Tipstaff

*I used to have the International DVD, however I've since sold it, and can no longer verify the contents of the DVD (I forgot to write down the filelist before I sold it, DOH!) It originally did work though when I tested it.

There's more to it than that, though. There's an internal check done by the game itself -- not SafeDisc 3 -- that verifies the environment under which it is running. If it doesn't have full Administrator rights, it aborts with an error. This occurs even on the broken "build mode absent" cracks that disable SafeDisc. This check does not occur, however, if I run the game in Windows 98/Me compatability mode, meaning that I can still run the game without full Admin rights when using one of the previous broken cracks. The new MONEY crack, however, somehow disables this workaround, causing the executable to check the user environment even if I run in the requested compatability mode.

This makes me wonder how the crack would work under a real Win98/Me setup. Anyone tried that yet?

Also, I understand that Doom 3 uses SafeDisc 3 protection as well, but it does not require full Administrator rights to run. Can anyone confirm this?

Psycloned 08-10-2004 15:11

Anyone else having the game freeze with a Protection Error? This happens occasionally at random where the game locks up and puts a Protection Error task on the task bar.

Alt-Tabbing just closes both the game and the Protection Error task at which point I have to reload and lose any unsaved progress. I have tried both the iND mini image and the SPiTFiRE mini image and still get this. Anyone else gotten it and know how to workaround it?

I should that I burned the money release using a non safedisc 'compatible' burner to cd's, installed from those cd's and then edited the registry to point the CD Drive and the Installed From values to point to the mini image that's mounted using Alcohol 120.

The odd thing is that this error only happens on one computer while on another it runs fine with the difference being that I installed straight from the mounted images on the computer where the game is running fine.

I am not knowledgeable in burning of safedisc games on 'incompatible' hardware but I would assume that the data would be burned fine, that safedisc is only a factor when looking for the 'bad' sectors that are part of the safedisc protection. Could it be possible that one of the cd's were burned in such a way that could cause a problem like this?

Tipstaff 08-10-2004 15:46

Someone mentioned to me that the Money DVD release that this crack comes from is a US release, and it works perfectly on it. However, since I DO NOT WAREZ I cannot verify the files on that release (size and file comparison), but I do know it has just 1 TMP file (00000001.TMP), and the other 3 *_filelist.txt files. All I'm doing is telling you guys what worked for me with what I have, which is the RETAIL US DVD, and RETAIL International CD/DVD. It's my understanding that Moneys DVD release is a repack of the 4CD version, so until I get a hold of the retail CDs I can't verify the crack with them.

Again, from my experience the crack works flawlessly with the International releases, but not on the US release for DVD (until I replaced the *.TMP files of the US release with the *.TMP files from the International one, which I mentioned in my early post). So, if someone can verify it on the US CD release that'd be helpful.

Edit: :D This post sounds like I'm angery, or telling people off.. I'm not though, k? :p LOL

klagegg 08-10-2004 16:22

i've got the international version of the sims2 (the one released by money) but if you use the crack without inserting the cd it says "insert correct cd and blah..."
if i insert it, it says that emulation software was found and i should deactivate it... i even uninstalled alcohol and daemon tools and it stillt says that?!
any ideas

Sidney 08-10-2004 16:51

I have both US CD and DVD versions.
Both have only 3 *filelist.txt.
US DVD has only 00000001.TMP approx 20MB
US CD has 00000001.TMP = 2k and 00000002.TMP = 310k

Crack does not work with either.

Interesting. I know that if I leave the DVDs original 0000001.TMP file, and add the International 00000002.TMP file it doesn't work. However, if I place both TMP files from the International version, and overwrite the US *01.TMP file the US DVD backup works perfectly.

Thanks for the post Sid. Still waiting on the US CD version to test this out.

Tipstaff 09-10-2004 01:34

Alrighty.. here's both a correction, and an update. From what I can tell the cracked exe might be checking for 00000002.TMP file in some instances (could be OS related), but it doesn't need to be on the US DVD release for it to work. Sorry about the confusion. Me bad..

That said, here's the poop: The crack is looking for the 00000001.TMP file, but it's looking for the smaller 2kb file that is on the CD version (at least the International one). From comparison (thanks to You-Know-Who-You-Are for sending me the file list of the DVD) Money uses a smaller 2kb file on their DVD release. The US release uses a 20MB file, and since it's the wrong size it refuses to work. So why doesn't the US CD release work, you ask? Beats the hell outta me. The US CD release has the same 00000001.TMP 2kb file on it (according to Sidney), so it should work, or should it?

My theroy is that the 00000001.TMP file is different between the 2 CD versions. See, Safedisc uses that file, along with others, for it's copy protection. It specifically looks for that file in it's checking routine. I could be that the *01.TMP file is a different, or has some internal check that is different between the the US and International versions. I still haven't gotten the US CD version to verify this though, so it's purely speculation, and I may never get it as I'm sort of tired trying to get this figured out (especially since I have a working backup for myself).

To the GM: you may want to update the GCW listing to my post with the new info (especially since I stated in it that you need that 00000002.TMP file and you might actually not need it). As well, I can no longer verify that the crack works with the International DVD as I no longer own it (I sold it to a friend in Austrailia), and the idiot I am, I forgot to make a file list before I did so. DOH!

Edited: removed for obvious reasons. hehe, right Bounty?

WoBbe 09-10-2004 02:13

Hi, this is my first post op FileForums. I think I have found a solution. I discoverd about the same things as Tipstaff. The TMP files are the "protection files" and it seems every release has other .TMP files. I have downloaded serveral releases and I found out that it doesn't matter which file you have. It's the name of the cd/dvd. The crack only works if the cd or dvd you have is named: Sims2_1. I tried it with al the releases I downloaded and it works. If you have a dvd release, the name of the dvd is probably SIMS2_DVD, but it has to be Sims2_1, cause otherwise it wont work.

So if you have the dvd release, just extract al files to your pc. Burn them with nero (or an other burning tool), and name the cd Sims2_1.

(Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Good luck

P.S. I'm from The Netherlands, so if my English is a bit crappy, thats the problem :P

Thanks for the info WoBbe. You are right about the CD label, but it's not necessary with the DVD release. I thought of it at first, but that didn't help. In this case I've left the US DVD name intact (which is in Joliet mode, labeled as Sims2), and as long as I swap out that *01.TMP file with the International *01.TMP file it works.

I should point out though that this IS the case for the CD release. For those having problems getting the crack to work with a CD backup don't forget that you MUST label the first disc as Sims2_1 (small letters)(give that a try Sidney). It must be in Joliet mode (so it shows up in small), so you don't want to use ISO 9660 text for a Joliet lablel (for those that use Nero you'll know exactly what that means). If you use the same label for both (ISO 9660 and Joliet, which would show up as SIMS2_1) it will not work, and you will have an "enter correct disc" error.

Remember: Label must be case correct. In my case the US DVD has Sims2, while the International CD1 version had Sims2_1.

Nice of you post that WoBbe. I bet that just solved the problem with the guys doing US CD backups. I totally forgot to mention it.

Edit: This was posted in another forum, so I'm not gonna take credit for it. If you want to get rid of the Money logo that appears when you start the game then delete the 00000000.016 and 00000000.256 files inside the C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSBin folder. Thanks goes to a guy named Grisom for that one.

Careful people, No Warez allowed here ;)

You dont want Luciel to start banning people who have actually contributed something of meaning to this thread.

Tipstaff 09-10-2004 04:44

Loud and clear, Bounty.

There's not much else I can add to this thread. There is no clear way past this cd/file check without altering the original discs. So, until Money comes out with a new crack to fix this issue most of you guys are outta luck.

With that, I'm gonna leave this thread alone for a while. Not much more I can do with it accept to say good luck, and hope for the "next" crack.

Hope I've helped.

Edit: I've changed the contents of the link GCW has made to my first post on this issue: http://fileforums.com/showpost.php?p...&postcount=161
I've included some of the update info, and removed the junk.

For Daemon: 1, You should have the daemon icon on your taskbar, right-click on it 2, choose the "Virtual CD/DVD ROM", and click on the virtual device 3, click "mount" and open the image file you wish to mount 4, select the emulation options you want 5, enjoy!

For Alcohol 120%: 1, open Alcohol 2, in da file menu open the image file you want to mount 3, select the your image file from the menu and right-click on it 4, mount the image in the virtual drive 5, select the "emualtion" menu, and choose the options you want to be turned on 6, exit alcohol 7, enjoy!

I hope that helps!

Can saomebody please tell me what to do to make the game of the game work correctly, since reading everything here made me a little confused.

I made a copy of CD version of the game with Nero, replaced the exe with a cracked one, but the build mode didn't work. So I didi a little research on some forums and found out that I need a different crack. I downloaded a few from the GCW but they either did the same thing that my old crack did or didn't even want to start the game, asking me to 'insert correct CD' ...

What should I do?
Is there a crack that completely solves the building mode problem
and what about those emulation programs that must be uninstalled?
Can somebody please clarify this to me?

Update 2: There is no working crack at the moment either. We here at Fileforums dont know when a working crack will be out and, dare I say, many of us dont care. Its a girls game for petes sake ;) So dont make bone idle posts asking if a crack is out and dont PM Mods asking for Cracks and definately dont use the Report to Mod link to request cracks either (new craze starting on here, idiots)

Update 3: As of 21/9, there is still no fully working crack. Money's, Star****ers and WMM1427 cracks all fail when it comes to using the Build Mode. However, it is being reported that if you use either of the 2 mini images available from GCW, you will be able to fully enjoy the game. That is all

Update 4: WORKING CRACK HAS NOW BEEN RELEASED! Either be patient enough for your favourite crack site to update (come on you have waited this long) or look for it on the net yourself :)

Hi My daughter is really bugging me to get that crack, could you just put out a link where the crack is located ( if know where to find it :S) thx

Tipstaff 10-10-2004 15:22

Alright folks, heres the poop. I've gotten permission from BountyHunter to post this "how to", and you are all gonna wanna read this. I should say that I wanted to post this for a long, long time, but was reluctant to until I got permission. Now that I have, pay attention:

Here's how to make a working backup:

First, copy the contents of the CD1/DVD to a directory on the hard drive.

Download the mini-image GCW posted on their website:

The Sims 2 v1.0 [ALL] No-CD/Fixed Image #2
http://m.spacetarget.com/games/pc_the_sims_2.shtml
or choose a local mirror from www.gamecopyworld.com

*Don not download the Spitfire one as you will not be able to copy the needed files*

Mount the image, and copy the 2 *.TMP files from it into the CD1/DVD directory (you only need the 01*.TMP file, but copy both just for good measure). This image was created from the International CD release, and I know it works.

Burn the directory back to CD/DVD, and make sure to label them correctly (CD1 should be Sims2_1, DVD should be Sims2). They are case sensitive. If you use Nero, do not use ISO 9660 text for the Joliet label, otherwise the name will show up in all caps. The names MUST be case correct. So again, CD1 = Sims2_1 , DVD = Sims2 .

Replace the orignal exe with the fixed exe in the main game folder under C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSBin before you try the game with the new backup. Find that file here:

The Sims 2 v1.0 [MULTI] No-DVD/Fixed EXE
http://m.spacetarget.com/games/pc_the_sims_2.shtml
or choose a local mirror from www.gamecopyworld.com

That's it. The fixed exe will now work correctly. I've tested this countless times (as has a couple other people that have the US CD/DVD releases), and it works without a hitch. What you do from there is up to you.

Thanks to Bounty for allowing me to post this as I'm sure this is gonna solve a lot of peoples problems.

Have fun, cuz I'm outta here!

*Note: people might recognize this post from another forum. It just made sense to repost my exact post here then it was to retype it all.
*I am only posting this because GCW hosts the mini-image file, and any creative person would have evenutally come up with this. Still, I figured it was best to get persmission from the GMs first before I posted a "how-to".
*Also, This is NOT A NOCD/DVD, but a "fixed exe". Just remember that.

how to make sims 2 work JUST FINE (100%)

yesss! sims 2 works JUST FINE! i mean it.. perfectly, fully working! with build mode as well!!! now i'll give u the simplest instructions how to make it work.. forget all the high tech words.. people get confused all the time! these arethe EASIEST steps, and they WILL work! just follow these steps::

1. Downlaod Alcohol 120% from: http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/ after downloading install the software!

2. Downlaod the Image (zipped) from: http://www.msnusers.com/SoftPort/Doc...upImageEng.zip

Dont use downlaod accelerators while downlaoding... be calm! Also you can try downloaing this image form Game Burn World! File should be: "Sims2v1.0MiniBackupImageEng.zip"

3. Inside the zipped image file you will see one file named: "Sims2_1_RIP.MDF". Extract this file into desktop or any other location you like!

4. Start alcohol 120% and ull see a blank window having heading as: name / type / size etc. Just DRAG the extracted Sims2_1_RIP.MDF file inside there!

5. Now u'll see a new entry inside there saying: "Sims2_1_RIP" double click or execute the file (your 98% done!) - This will automatically create a virtual drive insde ure computer which will look like a new drive with Original sims2 disc. ;)

6. Now use ure original sims2.exe file which is in the "TSBin" folder in teh installed directory (not any cracked/patched version). If you overwritten teh file before, try looking inside your burnt disc!

7. Just double click the exe file, run as you used to, will take a lilttle bit more time (be patient), so you haveto wait.. but will work 100% fine! smoothly after loading... and all modes work just fine! that's it - wala !! sorry for all of ya who had a hardtome cracking this game all these days!

P.S. - How to crack alcohol 120% to remove TRIAL? well, cant post it here!

((saquib))

  :)

Tipstaff 10-10-2004 21:49

Uhh.. thanks for the post.. but that's what we've been doing for the last little bit while we waited for a proper crack/fixed exe, and it's been posted several times already. Thanks for the "repost".

I guess at least the 2 options of getting this to work are on the same page ;)

I'm outta here.

xriverfalconx 11-10-2004 22:41

Okay, I read everything everyone posted and thought to myself, why not just use the no-cd crack AND thesmall image file TOGETHER??? So, I downloaded the 5.5mb no cd crack, deamon tools, and "Sims2-Playdisk-Rip" (whatever file). I installed daemon tools, rebooted, and mounted the sims2 file. Next, I simply replaced the exe with the crack and the game booted up perfectly. I started a game in pleastantville and built a house with NO PROBLEMS!!! I was placeing furniture and the likes and the game did NOT crash at all. I went into another home, and added stuff there, and the game played without a problem and with NO CD! Give that a shot, for it SHOULD clear up all this B.S. I've been reading over and over and over and over and over again. If this doesn't work for you, seriously, you have issues!

Enjoy!!! :)

n00bie 12-10-2004 00:24

The point is you DON'T NEED the no-cd exe using the disk image, it works 100% with the original sims2.exe.

Unfortunatly, some people do. I did everything correctly from using Alcohol120%, deamon tools, CloneCD, deleting Clone CD, etc etc etc etc etc, and I ALWAYS got the notice saying to turn off virtual drives. After doing it the way I explained above, it stopped and I am able to play the game 100%.

This is just another method to getting the program to run properly if you still get errors trying to play.

mandythepcgirl 12-10-2004 08:48

Can't even install

Ok. I've followed this thread to the very end and now have heaps of things to try... but my problem is, I can't even install the game from the backups.. Cant transfer errors all the time. I'm getting pretty sick of typing in the code.

Any ideas?

Used Alcohol 120 to make copies and have tried burning the files to disk but same thing - and it's never the same file that it has problems transfering.

Luci 12-10-2004 08:55

mandy...it's a bad copy.try first to install from original.if it plays then it's a bad copy

xriverfalconx 12-10-2004 10:47

I backed my copy with Clone CD and it didn't give me any issues...give it a shot.

First, make the image and save to the HD, then burn it onto a blank disc. I did it that way and its working well.

easy crack

:o Hi Guys (esp Tipstaff),

Its really great to know that there ARE people that actually takes the time and patience to work out cracks that work and continue to seek it out to the max.

However, i must say that i have read each and every thread on this topic. I do not have a burner (and don't ask me to get one cause i can't afford it yet). So, i could'nt do the stuff that Tipstaff that has advice on the burning in the the Sims2_1 title and run thingie.

How can i get the build mode and all other stuff working correctly with just the Latest Money patch (erm MULTI CD / DVD or something as posted by Tipstaff) - and also the available 000001.TMP and 000002.TMP files ?

REgards,

Thank You!!

I hope it is all right to post this! So if I made a mistake (Sorry). I just want to say THANK YOU!! To all of you for having the information on this site. Have the original disks saved and using a burned copy to play. Wish I could contribute something important, but I can't. Well keep up the good work on an awsome site.
Later!
