About removing the vc8api.dll method...

It really does work.

The only problem with the new patch was that it automaticly unmounted the images... by removing the vc8api.dll ... this was not the case anymore.
I have been playing ever since the weekend with the patch 1.8,
but... you really need to keep these things in order:

* You need the german st0n3d release as with the the 1.7 patch (1.1)
* You need to mount the image in the virtualcd program INTO YOUR PHYSICAL drive... this sounds weird, but really.. virtualcd supports to virtually mount an image file, into your real, physical, cd/dvd player/burner :) so make sure you insert the image into that drive. If this option is not available... check the settings of virtualcd to enable the function

If it doesnt work... try unmounting all images in any (virtual)drive and removing all cd/dvd's from the drives, shutdown all image programs like alcohol, daemontools, poweriso etc. etc. then try the method again...
Do not forget to shutdown Virtualcd 8 Programs after mounting the images.

This should work, and really does work for me!
But only 1 out of 3 times... So usually I need to startup the game about 2-3 times, sometimes my whole system even locks up, but I dont mind paying such price while later playing the game for hours ;)

As a gentleman states a bit earlier about Virtual CD drive maybe being banned.... First: I don't think that it has anything to do with this method, since the image is getting mounted into your physical drive, as such... those drives paramaters are 'seen' by the game. Second: If it really is a problem, then just change the virtual drives parameters in Virtual CD Settings... you can change the manafucturer and drive type etc...

Here's what happens for me.

I have a EU copy of the game, patched at 1.08. I apply the 1.01 "fix" by razor 1911 and I am able to enter the game, I get to the menu screen, and can do options and everything. I hit new game, I see the loading bar going and when it gets to the end, I hear the Windows error ding and I alt tab to find this ...

A window pops up with the title of, "gCScriptAdmin::RunScript(..)". It then has in the window ... "Scripted script is not registered: OnInit !" There are three buttons below it, Abort, Retry and Ignore.

I press retry. Another window pops up. (Each window hereafter has the same title as the first and the same Scripted script is not registered: [script] - I'll just put in the script name.)

OnGameStartUp !
OnPlayerGameKeyPressed !
OnProcessRoutine !
GetDCCRadius ! (this one repeats every time retry is hit until abort or ignore is hit)

If I hit abort, Gothic 3 closes and I get ... (Window title) "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"

So, I hope that helps some coders/crackers trying for a EU 1.08 fix.

But who knows? As long as it pushes the issue forward it's fine. Need a crack as I cannot play anymore with the new patch. Gotta get a new DVD Drive or stick to the 1st patch :( ...

Too bad I'm not a coder. Having the one for 1.08 would really be nice, I'm waiting for it as well.

Thats your problem, 1.08 files have a different index's than the 1.01 files.

This situation is covered by forum FAQ entry III/5.; and no, it won't work...!

To some reason the DVD won't load anymore with 1.08 applied. But with the Releasepatch it works (EU Version)... :(
I am sure it is my crappy DVD Drive. Otherwise I'll have to return the game...

could be crappy use of software protection too ;P

I'm totally discouraged :mad: ! JoW00d had been working hard on the protection of their game instead of making it work well enough! I was firstly surprised when I launched 1.1 version of g0thic3 and found it quite unplayable and now I see worse gameplay situation in 1.8 and totally f***ed up protection that was quite good without any changes... :confused:

Sorry for this kinda offtopic but I was waiting for a game-of-the-year-gothic3 and now I get this buggy shit that I can't even start without original cd/dvd that I simply CAN NOT get living in Russia and waiting for our national release in the end of 2006...

P.S. somebody (who knows at least smtg 'bout it...) tell me, how much should we w8 'til any fitting way to start the game w/o having the original dvd appears?

hmm you mean you haven't got the original (if you cant get it in russia, then im sure you could find it on ebay or some inet shop... really you don't have an excuse).. i can only direct you to the rules.. and advise you read them,,,
after that.. its up to the mods...

I can find one on e-bay and amazon etc. but neither european nor american shops/auctions has feature to deliver a dvd-box to me here. Sorry, but I know what i'm talking about. Here we do only have a pre-order ability atm...

As it turns out, the vc8api.dll does work if you want to play without the DVD. I was able to play the game using these exact steps.

1. Download fixed image from GCW.
2. Install VirtualCD 8.0.0.4.
3. Look at the JPEGs in the fixed image archive, and configure your copy of VCD the same way.
4. Use VCD to create a new virtual CD, using your Gothic 3 DVD as a source. You need a Virtual CD image, not an ISO.
5. When it's finished, you wll be left with a new set of files. One file ends in VC4, such as GOTHIC3.VC4. Rename or move this file.
6. Move the fixed image file to the same directory as the new file set (GOTHIC3.VC6). Rename it to your filename from step 5 (GOTHIC3.VC4).
7. Fake-mount the image to your REAL CD drive using VirtualCD. Mounting to a virtual drive does not work. This might make the drive physically eject.
8. Move vc8api.dll from your VCD installation to your SYSTEM32 directory (c:\windows\system32\).
9. Prepare your old save-game if you want (read the 1.08 release notes).
9: Install the Gothic 3 1.08 patch.
10. Play the game.

This game still needs a lot of work to be playable.

Mind you, the copy protection and the game itself is definitely written by two separate teams and they can't give help to each other... ;)

Nope, but actually, they should work hard at gameplay, shouldn't they? And now they're wasting time upgrading game's protection. Have u read what they told 'bout released Gothic 3? They admit the game is far and far from what they had been talking before the release date. But p1raniha (I written jow00d in that post so i meant p1raniha of course) isn't gonna stop work at their creation and looks like many patches are gonna be released for G3.

I've tried this exact method and it doesn't work for me. Anyone else get this working? If so, give a more in depth or detailed talk on how you did it.

Nope, tried it both way...it works...
But u still need a savegame to start a new game...;)

Problem is, it wont start to begin with, I still just get the *Insert CD* error. I've followed the steps exactly.


***EDIT*** Alright I tried the steps again with a fresh install, and the VCD Method doesnt even work for the 1.7 patch for me. Any ideas?

sometimes it starts at the first try, sometimes it starts at the 5,6,7...try...
but if the game runs, its runs and runs for a long time...

And BTW: I haven't seen you after Ludmilla has been released without your order. You surely know how good this project is going now. Pity that old WDDG broke up, but I know the old truth and I do not want to start flaming topic here.

So Gothic 3 must be cracked, but the game will be updated several times and there will be hard to do so many cracks (to many game versions). For now we need for ENG version crack 1.8 and then we should release one crack on two version (becouse there is no sense to do new crack one time for week or 2 weeks).

Next patch is a close-combat patch, it is said to be released in less than 5 weeks. i assume they will be fixing alot of bugs as well since they made a bug thread to find them.
