You dont need a usb drive. And you shouldent get the unlicenced disk error.
If you are, then you have missed one of the steps for getting Cossacks 2 to work.
Remember ths crack will not work if you patch the game to 1.1

1 group of people can lay it following the official carbon way

1 group of people can play it through the usb- trick

1 group who cant play it, whatever they try to do..

I found that you must disable node and sec ide using the latest SFnightmare just before you try to boot cossacks2, because something is in the habit of re-enabling them.

and another question, when i select the lates starforce profile, and i "patch blacklisted" it says it has found 2 drivers, but patched 0 ? how can i kill those 2 drivers? (alcohol disabled, daemon has changed .dll file-names)

Some queries about Cossacks II and Starforce

I 'm thinking of buying this game and I've read through all replies to this thread, but I have a couple of questions (because I don't want to give money away for a game that may cause me a thousand problems), if someone is kind enough to help me :)
1. If I install this game and after some time I decide to uninstall it, will this Starforce protection be uninstalled too or will it remain in my system?
2. While I have the game installed (but I don't play it), is it possible that this Starforce protection affects the way other applications (eg. MS Word, Photoshop or any other application) I launch funtion?
3. From what I 've read here, there are two ways in making a duplicate: Either by using this Carbon method and mounting in Daemon Tools or Alcohol. I didn't quite understand, which dlls or other stuf do I have to disable in Alcohol or Daemon Tools in order to mount the duplicate without problems? Could anyone explain in some detail? And further, does anyone know if this method is possible to be applied to a laptop (since I am using one)?
Second method, using an external USB drive. I would like to ask, if I want to burn the images, so I have a duplicate of the game in CDs and not in my HDD, what is the right way of doing it (if any?)? Btw, I tried to duplicate an older game (the Punisher) using Alcohol, but when I tried to burn the images, after finishing burning and I insert it in the drive, it appeared like an empty disc with no content in it, but showing 640 or sth MB disc occupied, does anyone know why I got this blank - full disc instead of the acual burned image? I note that I didn't have the same problem when I converted it to .ISO file using UltraISO. So, if I try and convert an Alcohol file for Cossacks II to .ISO file will I be able to use this duplicate disc or the Starforce Protection will resurect?

maybe i missed something within this thread, but how was Carbon able to create a mds file that works (I tried to do a backup with Alcohol and Starforce settings with write speed x1 but my image won't work)

can someone explain me the way to a backup copy of my disks?

btw: the usb and the clone carbon method is working, now I try to backup my german original disks without success by now

Any help on how u did? I managed to go to the part that says activation succeeded system must be rebooted to protect the system. I reboot i disable everything (cds, nodes, ch2) and then i mount the image of cossacks2 mdf or something on the daemons drive. Then it asks for the 2nd cd of cossacks which i have to insert in my cd rom in order to check the disk. After the check says that it is not a valid cd and asks for a serial. What am i doing wrong?

Frustrated am spenting all my energy on this god damn game.! :mad:

Write the serial when it asks.

It asks for the key found on the cd case. I tried many keys but none seem to work. It says invalid key or something. :confused:

:( Still not working i have disabled my hole system but still nothing. What am i doing wrong? When i mount the image with daemon i select all emulators right? and then i mount the file on the virtual drive. I get in the second restart part (2nd i time i press icon to start game) in the instructions then i disable every god damn cd rom i have nothing i even diabled secondary master and slave but when i try to play it asks for diski press retry nothing.
Any more help?

here's what i found out to make it work!

The major problem I found was that the MDF file Name should be the same as the MDS File name..
Like so
myclone_disc2.mds
myclone_disc2.mdf

so if your .MDF file is different from the the .MDS file it won't work! (my version was different!)
copy the .mds title and paste it to your .mdf file, deleting the .mds on the end and changing it to .mdf .. once thats done, mount daemon tools emulation RMPS, all option unticked!

follow instructions on the carbon nfo and it'll ignite!
no more cd input! this should save you from scratching those newdiscs! ;))

Still not working!

I will write step by step what am doing so if am doing something wrong somebody can help.

1) I have 4 files
Cossacks 2 cd 1.mdf
Cossacks 2 cd 1.mds
Cossacks 2 cd 2.mdf
Cossacks 2 cd 2.mds
2) I mount cd1 to the virtual drive using daemon tools (emulation RMPS only as u said)
3) I run the game from virtual drive and i install the first cd. Then asks for second cd. I unmount cd1 and i mount cd2. I continue installation.
4) Installation finished reboot.
5) I run sfdrvrem i dont restart
I run sfdrvup (i get the error)
I run sfdrvpatch and crack the file thats inside system32\drivers
6) Now i restart using the dialog box that was enabled when i run sfdrvrem.
7) I run Starforce and i disable as said cd, node and ch2.
(My dvdrom and cdwriter are both on secondary IDE (master, slave))
8) I mount cd2 on virtual drive again with RMPS only.
9) I try to run the game and asks for cd. I press retry nothing. If i insert the cd2 of cossacks in my dvd rom starts checking disk and after checking asks for the correct cd to be inserted.

No no more emulation drive. Itried it also with emulation all on but nothing.
:(. I have the latest daemon tools.

everything seems to be fine, I did it the same way except
4) Installation finished, start game, reboot required
5) close sfdrvrem dialogue box before continuing with sfdrvupd

only little changes but maybe they help you.

This is how I did it
Have Total commander use its cool! and very handy ..

Have Ultra Iso Installed, version 7.2.3.901
Have Daemon installed Version 3.47 on the installion sequence it asks if you if you'd like to change those two SF detection files, call them anything.

make sure the file of your mdf files are same as your mds file names
only change your mdf file name to same as your mds .. not the other way around .. and this is only done, if they are different in titles.

Double click the cd1.mdf file
in ultraiso ..
Extract to a folder .. my_ disc_setup or any title you disire
Double click cd2.mdf file
Extract to your folder.. my_ disc_setup or any title you disired to call it
don't overwrite files just keep extracting
now hit setup and install the game
run game say no
reboot

launch daemon tool
right click in taskbar on daemon tools
go to option and un-tick all
right click in taskbar on daemon tools
go to emulation and select rmps
all others to be un-ticked
use the Patch file from Carbon
Run sfdrvrem.exe but do not reboot yet. don't click anything yet
leave it and go to
sfdrvup.exe run this now, which will give you an error 1072. click ok
put sfdrvpatch.exe in

Windows/System32/Drivers. run click on file .. ok.
Now reboot.
now get Starforce nightmare from http://starf.bestmedia.kiev.ua/.
Run the SFNightmare.exe
disable cd
disable node
if needed disable ch2 (depending on what IDE cable your cd drives are on).)
right vclick on daemon tools
mount image find the CD2.mds file mount it, making sure the CD2.mdf file of the same name is in the same folder!
run game and thats it!
delete files from setup folder

P.S. Never Give UP! ;))

I can work at the first install with Carbon patches and steps of installation. After i shutdown and switch on PC next day, it doesn't work. I realised that i need to repeat this steps everytime i starts my PC:

Run the SFNightmare.exe
disable cd
disable node
if needed disable ch2
Mount CD2

Does anyone had the same problem?

Just use your original. I would be sick if I've tried for the 10th time to play with the crack and couldn't be made to work.

And I think the workaround works with the images from the carbon copy.
It didn't work with my original, and after unistalling the game and installing from the carbon images the workaround worked and played.

After playing with cossacks and tried to play with TMSunrise I discovered that the game installed the new improved SF drivers and needed a reboot.

So it's easier if you just play with the originals...

i think that there is no need to use star**** or somth. what may **** ur system. You must replace only engine.exe and protect.dll in your game/data directory. work 4 me.
