I reaaally want to buy the game. But this 1.3 patch gone wrong thing bothers me sooo much. And well, after having starforce on my pc, I re-installed. I dont know, I have nforc2 chipset, and well, from reading, those are the one's most vulnrable to the hard drive wipes. This star force stuff is truly a night mare.

Do u guys feel safe with it? hehe.

I had my hope up last evening when was dl:ing new 1.2 fix . However truth striked me like lightning - it didnt work. pff :(

I found a fix on ebay, it only costs £29.99, comes in a box with a dvd, it's a bargin. :)

however it doesn't solve starfarce presence on comp :p

Your right, the ones on eBay have been infected to, there has to be some SH3 copy’s somewhere that have been vaccinated against starplopshat.

the direct2drive versions of games have nothing to do with starforce and are slightly cheaper than retail.

SH3 Never Cracked?
 

I've just been informed (by a well informed source) that SH3 was never cracked at all. The downloadable Reloaded SH3 distribution is actually (supposedly) made from an unprotected release, meaning the data was somehow acquired before Starforce was applied.

Silent Hunter 3 and Splinter Cell 3 are both using the same, or very close, versions of Starforce. Both, are as of yet uncracked. It can be worked around via a USB 2.0 external drive (which I have personally confirmed), or (reportedly) using a driver to force your SATA controller to emulate an IDE controller, but those are the only workarounds I have heard more than three people confirm.

Earlier versions of Starforce were crackable, but the time it takes us to crack and the time it takes them to patch vulnerabilities are disproportunate. Physical disc protection is gone.... Starforce cometh..... Now the makers of Starforce have downloadable protections in which even DEMOs are being protected, so the demo .exe file can no longer be compared to the retail to snatch out the Starforce code. Starforce works VERY closely with the developers all along the way.

I'm a big time game buyer, I personally own 139 PC games & a gaming laptop (Alienware Area 51m-7700). I like to use mini-images & NO-CD cracks as it keeps me from having to take all my originals in my case with me. Sure as hell, the only physical discs I have to take, ever, are Starforce protected. As a programmer, and a mathematical & encryption hobbyist, I can tell you it's TOUGH to crack Starforce in it's current state. Public key encrytion alone is simply hard to crack. Period.

Hopefully more developers take the same path as LucasArts, who only use physical disc protection. LucasArts still makes big money on games. Remember also, the descision to use copy protection isn't typically the developers, it's the publishers. Publishers get hypnotized by dollar figures, and almost never understand the technological aspect of copy protection. They see 80,000 pirated copies = $4,000,000 lost to piracy or just pay $20,000 for Starforce protection and keep the $4,000,000. They honestly believe that every pirated copy is a lost sale. Oh well. Rant done. :o

What does starforce mean to the gaming community???

Starforce security’s = money for old rope, better than winning the lottery.
Publishers = Stops pirates, but causes slow digression of customers.
Pirates = Don't give a *hit, gives them something to play with.
Customer = Punished, *issed on, puked all over, kicked in the nuts, broom handle rammed up there *****, and then charged for the pleasure.

Is it me or does it look like everyone has downloaded the alcohol 120% version of this game?

I have the torrent version which is 1.7 gig and I just used the original crack from the original 1.0 to the latest and it seems to run and work fine, but it seems people are using other versions with this star thing, I dont have anything like that installed.

Final Result: Silent Hunter III + v1.4b Patch applied + no StarForce drivers !

I just tried the crack. After reinstalling the game (1.4b Update does not work on cracked 1.0 Version) I tried the crack and payed 1 hour without any problem.

When the loading bar reaches 100% I get a crash to desktop... I just reinstalled the game and applied the EMEA patch and it wont work. :mad:

Is it working ok, when you use your original dvd without the crack?

I repaired exactly the same problem with crash to desktop when the loading bar is complete.
You have to install the game in english first because when looking at the no-cd it says for english version. Then it works.
I switched language back to german from the main-menu options at once after.
But the no-cd can't start the game for the first time if the installer choose any other language than english.

I got it sorted now, reinstallation fixed my problem, or some of the driver changes did not 100% sure.

I got the Ver.1.0 and tried to use the NO.DVD crack for ver.1.0 from gamecopyworld. but it doesnt work. because ı couln't find another one, does any one know where ı can find it. thank you :)
