I am using hijacks very first crack he posted, with Win Xp and SP2! Since using this crack I have always played in Offline Mode and have never again let it connect to Steam to Update! And so far absolutely no problems with the game or Crack. (And I finished the game today)
To whoever asked about how to stop Steam from starting when windows starts (Cant remember who asked this) but there must be a way of stopping it as it doesnt start when I start my system.
To whoever asked about the shortcut on the Desktop? I start Hl2 from a shortcut on Desktop (but then mine hasnt been updated!) I actually copied the shortcut that installed originally on the desktop from the retail version and changed the properties to point to and start Hijacks exe! That way the icon still looks the same as the original.
And one last thing the game finishes with................................... :D Just teasin! ;)

Run -> regedit:
In:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run/
there is a key named 'Steam' value data:"*directory uesed for steaminstall*\steam\steam.exe" -silent

Remove that and Steam wont start automaticly.

There is a box in the Steam-Option -> Interface which you can check or uncheck!

When you have the Steam version of the game you can also make a Desktop icon to start HL2.
Just right-click HL2 in "Your Games" section of Steam and choose "Create DeskTop icon". Then you can change the link to the hijack file.

And about the shortcut, i did it the lazy way so i could keep the fancy little HL2 icon. :p

My icon also have the normal HL2 "sign", not the Steam one !!!

Yeh sorry what I should have said is, my Icon for hijacks crack looks exactly like the proper HL2 icon because I changed the properties of the original HL2 desktop shortcut to make it point to Hijacks crack. ;)

Thanks guys, that takes care of most of the problems! If anyone can think of what I can do to get the firewall issue fixed, please let me know. In the meantime, I guess I'll work into getting the offline mode started...

I did that as well, but ended up having to tell the shortcut what icon to use, since it lost the hl2 one once changing the link details. Seems to work though...

This is starting to piss me off...

I can't get the offline mode to start. All it does is try to connect to Steam, even though it says it is offline ready. By clicking on Hijack's link it just brings up a Steam - Updating bar and unless I am connected, nothing happens. :rolleyes:

This is the most stupid CP I have ever heard of or have seen! Valve and VU are going to get much crap over this methinks! ;)

EDIT: It's working now. For some reason it'll only work if I have have the modem off as the PC is booting up. If I have it on at startup and turn it off to play the game, it won't work. I also found out that it is an error causing the crash, not my firewall. I read something about this at the Steam forums, all one needs to do is push enter a few times to complete the loading. I just wish I knew what was causing it and what the actual error is. HL2 won't minimize to find out...

Oh well, at least I can play now and haven't notice the level of stuttering that I did the first time I tried playing. Whether this is in due to the game being played offline, while before I was online I have no idea. Again thanks for all the help everyone! :)

PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!

I cant play CSS or HL2 at all. Both are malfunctioning.

Here is what I have installed:

1. Regular Steam w/ CS 1.6 KEY
2. Downloaded CSS (LUZIFER version)
3. Downloaded HL2 (EMPORIO 3.9GB version)

Here are my problems:

1. CSS cannot be played online anymore (Protocol 6 error)
---> I suspect CSS updated so I cant join new servers, does this mean it cannot be played anymore?
2. HL2 single player cannot be played anymore. I can't load or save games so it's quite pointless. Some error saying Steam doesnt work (even though I run Steam before I open up HL2).

Anyone have a solution for me?

I will do anything required to play these games for free. Did I download the wrong CSS version, I noticed there is an EMPORIO version. Same for HL2, there are 3 different versions, a 3.9GB one, 2.0GB one and 1.5GB one - so confusing, I just chose the 3.9GB one.

Please help me.

How stupid can a Company be by making a game, that needs an internet connection for single player mode or activation.

I know what your saying and I agree 100% but it only needs an Internet connection to activate, once its activated you dont need to connect to the net to play single player.

when i mount the HL2_UK ISO file with Daemon Tools and start launcher.exe Half Life 2 starts but after about 2 minutes there comes the Error about Steam: Connection to Steam Servers lost could not aquire necessary game files.

So that is really curious and i dont know what the hell is the problem in the first case....

I had some major stuttering, freezing, and lock-up problems, but I solved it now...

I have another problem that is bigger than the above ones.
I have some big AI problems with elevators. Yes, I said elevators.
Like, there is the part in the "Point Insertion" chapter, when you run like hell away from the masked guys and they get you. After the screen goes white, you suddenly meet Alyx. Well here is my problem: When Alyx is talking, she is going to the elevator and pushes the callbutton. When the elevator arrives and the door opens, Alyx suddenly cuts the talking and just stays there in front of the elevator doing nothing. I tried everything: pushing the button myself, try to push Alyx in the cabin, shooting Alyx ;) , even tried to noclip down the shaft but nothing happens. This is happening when I arrive at Black Mesa East, when the doc calls the elevator. She shuts up, and just stand there, no matter what I do. She refuses to enter the cabin. This stands for all the levator that need AI operating.

Is there a fix for this? Please help me!

I had the same issue of applying this no-cd and it still asking me for the cd. But what you have to do is not only shutdown steam, but restart your pc and DON'T start up the normal steam...(disable "startup steam when windows starts up" before your restart) Then, run hijack_hl2.exe and it should work. It did for me. Thanks hijack. :)

I have one problem with using hijack's patch on my 5 CD version.
All of mygame files are ok.
My hl2.exe files (in main directory and in SteamApps\myusername\half-life 2) has now 84 kB (originally 1.91 MB).
I've install hijack both patche's first 1.0, later - 1.5 (in main dir, where I have stream installed) and I have the same problem.
So, when I'm trying to run Half-Life 2 from Steam menu (after run hijack_hl2.exe of course and correct logging to the steam) I have message box:
SteamStartup() failed: SteamStartup(0xf,0x12e648) failed with error 108: The local Steam Service is not running

I was trying many things, but I haven't now no ideas :confused:
I have WinXpPro, if it could help you.

I had some problems with HL², but accidently i moved steam folder and all my .gcf files where invalid suddenly. So steam dl everything again. And WOW, everthing just fine!

if i start the game everything seems to be fine!

but the game crahs when the loading screen is on :(!!

no error log or something!
only the task manager says no reply!!!!!!

put all three files (hijack_hl2.dll , hijack_hl2.exe , HL2.exe )to your steam folder
for exampel
c:\programs\valve\steam
execute hijack_hl2.exe
now steam should start and hl2 and CSS work without cd\dvd in your drive

Only want to tell:
Currently i'm in Chapter 6 (Ravenhorst).
There i found a good known car wreck (see pic).

It's an "Trabant".
Especially the board members from former east germany should know it !!!

Don't know why VALVe take such a car to their game.

Well, in case if you didn't noticed, there are more eastern-european cars in the game. Like Lada, IFA, Tatra and more. Just have a good look at he wrecks around the game, especially when you are doing the "Highway 17" chapter.
And what's your problem with Trabants? They are very good cars. If fact I own one :D ! I can tell this car gets you everywhere you want to go. Not as fast as other cars, and it doesn't look that good, but it is very reliabe. And it is cheaper then the cars nowdays. It costs much less to service it, fuel it, and even MOD it! See it for yourself :D : open the attachment!

As for my earlier problems:
I was reading newzbin forum when I bumped into this. This is the most redicoulus "bugfix" I ever saw, but the most funny part is: IT WORKS!!!!!
Here it goes:

I cut the part what the poster was saying about the Emporio release and Steam's "reputation". Forum rules or what... :rolleyes: . (I was banned 2 times for posting things like...um...what I cut out :rolleyes: )
Anyway, if somebody had the same symptoms as above, this should fix it.

Can someone refer me to info on what the stutter/AI patch on this site changes? Does it decrease any video/audio aspects? I want fix some of the stutter but I don't want to sacrafice any quality...

However when I start hijack_hl2.exe A pop-up ad belonging to Steam comes up and it prompts me to register my product.. How come? :cool:
