You do have a valid point but one mishap doesnt mean that everyone is out to get you. The likeliness that there is foul play involved in this instance is almost inconceivable. I hardly doubt there is need for parnoia, however I do agree that one should always be prepared for the unexpected. In this regard I do see your point but none the less it is just a game. ;)

Your thoughts are duely noted and all are advised to proceed at your own risk, when dealing with homebrew software. I do feel that we do not need to fear eachother though cause we are all on the same team here. Everyone here works together to help eachother not maliciously hurt one another. If that was the case this site would suk and I can assure you this site does not suk. As a matter of fact it is the best and the formost authority on every kind of backup known. It is the best website on the net in my book.

If we could spread mass parnoia throughout the entire gamer society, we would surely cut down the piracy rate though. :D :p

Gaming is always at the risk of the end user and a certain trust must be enstilled otherwise we are all doomed to our own creativity. Leave the lil buggers alone and they will leave you alone (most of the time)! As for the more aggressive worms/virus', we have to deal with them as they present themselves. I'm actually less paranoid about the homebrew community than I am about developers screwing up in a way that massively screws with my system.

For example, Thief III has a little in-game check to make sure that the user playing is running with full Administrative rights, even beyond the CD check. If a non-Admin player tries to run the game, it deletes its own system files, rendering the install useless. This is an act of pure malice. It is easily circumvented by disabling write-access to the files (after which the game runs without problem), but it's a clear case of the devs sabotaging their own game to enforce an arbitrary and technically stupid requirement.

What happens if they screw up the 'delete the system files' code so that it is activated even when an Admin runs the executable? What happens if it goes from 'delete the game's system files' to 'delete arbitrary files on the machine'? When developers are pulling that kind of ****, I don't want to run their software under my Admin account.

Finally, my ultimate point is that while some people don't care about recommended security measures, I do. I do not run things under my Administrator account unless it is specifically an administrative task. I don't appreciate companies like EA/Maxis deciding that they know better than security experts, and when game companies pull this kind of crap I have to rely on the crack community to provide a proper workaround. Unfortunately, thus far, nothing has come out for this particular game.

I'm in Thailand so as we know, the local distributor is ........ THAILAND INC. (guess it!!) . It's good to have a local one coz the price is so damned low. But I dont understand why they have to make the game in THAI :mad: . That's not meaing I'm not loving to my country but it's mean I CANT MARRY THE GIVEN SIMS COZ THERE LASTNAMES ARE IN ENGLISH BUT MINE ARE IN THAI!!!. The installing option for english version is also not available. What da hell those 'Game Localizer' is thinkin'!!

Well, Mr Dimensio who is actually Miss Dimensio or Mizzz Dimensio in the interests of political correctness. Thank you for the insight into the dark side of your psyche. I suppose there really is not answer to personal opinion, howerver perhaps you may want to extend your knowledge in this area. Although it is certainly a good idea not to allow administrative privilages 'willy nilly' there is more to it than that. Remember the system account is used to run the operating system and programs such as IE so the protection you think you may be getting by not logging on as Admin may be erroneous. Still I suppose it is a fairly good practice to follow.

My specialty is Linux. I know better than to run with the most privledged account at all times under there. It wasn't a stretch for me to believe that it's also good practice not to do that in Windows.

I also know from my boyfriend (and it is Mr. Dimensio) that IE has its own security problems no matter who runs it. That's why I use FireFox.

My most humble appologies Mr Dimensio. Being somewhat 'old school' I didn't make allowances for sexual orientation. At any rate I believe your concern is unwarranted... or at the very least inflated.

Download from Gamecopyworld, use alcohol or demon tools to mount the image. Think it's been written severals of time in this 9 pages topic!

I just wanted to let you guys know what exactly I did. I was having trouble with the build options also not working.

- After putting the 4 images onto seperate cds using the .ccd format (couldnt tell whether to use .ccd or .cue so I used the one with CD in it)

- I downloaded and bought alcohol 120%.
Those of you who don't want to buy it, can always download a free trial.
- Next I opened up Alcohol 120% and looked for images on the left side, and had it look in the folder I put the Sims 2 cd images. I then selected CD 1 image and It showed up in the main screen.

- I then clicked emulation, then extra emulation and click the first box: BAD Sectors Emulation so that it compromised for the SafeDisk. In the extra emulation screen the boxes in order from checked to not are: Bad - Checked. The rest I left blank.

- In the Emulation tab I have the top two boxes checked: Ignore and Launch, the last one is open.

- After this was done I minimized Alcohol 120%, then double clicked on the Sims 2 icon, with the ORIGINAL .exe in the TSBin folder. When I loaded the image into Alcohol 120% it came up with this dialog boc with a Red X and no message. I click OK, or whatever the button was and didnt worry about it.

- After ignoring the message popup when I loaded the image, the double clicking on the Sims 2 shortcut on my desktop, I played Sims 2, tried out the build option. AND IT WORKED!!!

- As A sidenote: I played for about 5 hours that night, very addicting.

Well I know that this procedure had been put up here, maybe not in the exact length of description but the overall theme. I first had a question on whether to use .ccd or .cue, if it made a difference, and I pretty much answered it myself. I hope this helps someone who was having the same problem as me. I personally couldnt get the mini-image, or of course the .exe from GCW to work. Have fun!

I dont think anybody, on here, can tell you when a fully working crack will show up. Maybe this game will go the way of TOCA Race Driver 2 :)

I made the image using them but it still says that I have an Image program. I've tried with Daemon V3.47 and Alcohol 120%...
And now I have another problem... when I make the image and the autorun activates, only appear a tiny window with nothing writen...

Too bad it looks like the crack groups seem to think that the "mini-ISO" solution is good enough and they have apparently given up on providing a proper crack. I still can't play without full Administrative rights.

Well just maybe it isn't possible to do that type of crack anymore, just maybe Starforce is too good and just maybe we'll all have to play with our original CDs.

I just got my hands on the latest MONEY crack. I can report that I still have to be logged in as a System Administrator, AND I still have to have the disc in the drive (or an ISO mounted with Daemon Tools). The latter issue is one that really disqualifies it from being a "crack", IMO. Or are CD cracks no longer doing that kind of thing?

No, it isn't. It's just broken in a different way.

Do you still have the game disc or mini-ISO mounted? If so, umount the ISO or remove the game disc and try again, and see what happens.

Moreover, MONEY's new "crack" breaks my one workaround for the game's internal environment check. With the default executable, I can disable the check by running in Windows 98/Me compatability mode. For some reason with the MONEY executable, the check occurs even when running in this mode, meaning that I still have to be logged in as a system Administrator.

This "crack" is even more useless than the previous, broken releases.

Just because the crack does not do what you want it do, does not mean you should start rumours on here and make people pm even more requesting 'working' cracks without even trying the new one for themselves. For those that still dont understand, the new working crack is a fixed exe, not a no cd crack. It still requires a cd or dvd to be in the drive while playing the game.

Anyways, this thread will remain open until this Sunday. After that its history. Hopefully, any proper problems will show up between now and then.

I tried the new Money crack and was unable to start the game. The new crack only works with the DVD version. Any workaround on that?

Not much of a crack if you ask me.
Does not work with working copy of CD1, does not work with copy of DVD.
Does not even work with the original CD or original DVD.
Always asks for correct dvd.
