I can't answer that from experience given my JAP PS2. But Origachip PAL plays DVD-R and they say it works for v5. E-mail them. They do reply after three or four days.

this chip could be used for all PS2 version (with jumpers to differentiate the versions). And the good news is: Its no swap!

hi i have an NTSC ps2(SCPH1500) and iwant to buy a origachip 1.25 i was wondering if this chip would work on an NTSC console because i really want to play dvdr games that recently came out in our area

Yes - the 1.25 is a JAP model chip and it does what you want.

My 1.25 Origa work fine, and its a great chip really!
