2) Keeping that file does let you keep playing the game after you've patched it, but it seems that that file is the biggest change of the patch, as the game runs exactly the same as before the patch (still have textures turning white, black characters, framerate issues, etc) and the game still won't save control configs etc. etc. etc.

The old file is like 6 megs and the new one is 8 megs, so that's where a lot of the changes are kept. If you replace that file you might as well not even patch in the first place.

The file seems to be the one taking care of the virtual emulation protection, so that is what I suggested that.

Also, if you want your settings to get changed, its simple, locate the matrixconfig.ini file, right-click it and un-tick "read only". You'll be all set.

Could someone please post the unpatched .bin file because I Really don't want to reinstall my whole original. It took a long time.
You can post it www.yousendit.com... thanks a lot for saving me the hassel.

Plethus: What quality settings are you running it and what is your video card.

Thx man! What you mean still? Is there some solution out?

EDIT: I can confirm that this unpatched bin works with SR7 STOP + Daemon tools mounting (Daemon should be closed after mounting)

As I said.. that gets the game to run, but without any of the benefits of the patch.

I' am not so sure about this because firstly keep in mind the patch was 50+ megs, the bin difference is 2 megs. Secondly for the game to work when the .bin was replaced indeed means that certain new protection algorithms or subroutines must have been within this file... or another file dependent on this file as Legend pointed out.

If you watch the patching process, you'll see that 99% of all the patching is done for all of the different languages, and I think that's where most of the 50 megs are.

It is true that the BIN file contains the copy protection, but that doesn't mean that's ALL it contains. Tons of games have .EXEs that contain both the copy protection scheme and many functions of the game itself.

Put it this way... if that BIN file doesn't affect anything other than the copy protection, then it's the worst patch ever created, because not a single thing in the list of fixes for the patch is fixed.

Yes its possible the bin contains other things. Looking at the other files it seems much of the game information may indeed be in this file. A good way to test this is for someone to install the patch and watch the directories as the patch is patching and seeing what files besides the .bin and the language files is changed. /common/misc is a candidate.

Unfortunately I don't forsee anyone releasing a fix to this problem because most people believe (especially the crackers) that an image works for all patches... but this is simply not true. In other words... don't hold your breath.
