There you go, only if you read that earlier post I said first :P

tbaher 07-04-2005 22:35

I am glad it all worked out in the end

kosmiq 08-04-2005 03:13

I noticed that after installing the patch I got a new process called "UASecuROM v7" or whatever it was. Something similar atleast.
And when I uninstalled the game, the process was still there.
This is getting just like starforce. Protections not being removed... gaaaah
Have anyone seen any SecuROM cleaner similar to the Starforce cleaner that showed up?

@herc, nice the game started, too bad it crashes... And Atari being dumb I doubt, its more like they wants their customers to be able to play what they buy. I like that. :D

Atari arent that good with getting patches organised, you just have to look at the god awfull Enter the Matrix :\

I think that Enter the Matrix had to much problems to begin with.
First off it was a licensed game and no real effort had been put in it (it felt like that). And the game having some serious issues upon release didn't make it any better.

But I have faith in developers, someday they might turn out being real good releasing patches and fixing problems.

There's always effort but, being a developer myself, the only way projects are done "right" are a mixture of "lots of money", perfectionists (as opposed to people who are practical about deadlines and real life) and good team leaders. One thing that never gets mentioned is that you have to LOVE development. You will be underappreicated, underfed and underslept. Being underpaid doesnt help. There's talent and there's skill. You need both in every member AND a good leader and a good manager.

Making good games is like performing small miracles. But saying "anyone can make a bad game" is so not true either.

tbaher, nicely said! Without scientists and hackers, who don't give a f*ck about real life and live for making quality inventions, including but not limited to hardware and software, this whole technology would be nowhere!

Oh, by the way, I finally had the time to look into the game under Windows 98. It doesn't launch, saying it is missing some exports from WMVCORE.DLL. Probably, it uses some Windows Media Format 9+ package which are not available for Windows 98 anymore...

I don't believe that a Windows 98/ME compatibility patch for this game would be as easy to do, if possible at all, as for DOOM 3...!

Then quite possibly the codec pack installed on my 98 machine may have included the wmvcore library

as i wrote before, after replacing the old exe with the new one released
by securom, the game finally runs - even though Atari confirmed that this
game does'nt support Win98.
Maybe it's a big difference if you're using Windows98 or Windows98SE?

But a friend also has Win98SE and the game does'nt run,
i really want to know why...

@Joe Forster/STA don't know if you received my email, but thanks for your
answer anyway (wrote about making a compatibility patch)

Joe Forster/STA 11-04-2005 08:38

Hi herc,

Sorry about not having read your post earlier... As I wrote in my E-mail reply to you - well, you're welcome :D -, I'm pretty busy these days and couldn't try the game before. I couldn't make it work under Windows XP either but, currently, I have no time to play around with it anyway so I didn't try that "new EXE" yet... :o

And, yes, I'm running the first, Gold Edition of Windows 98 and am not planning to replace with with Windows 98SE... ;)

Running win98 makes sense .. kinda..
but running win98se? why? it's like running winme.. almost..

you are aware of the existance of DOSBOX (the dos emu) arent you?

DABhand 11-04-2005 09:34

I have to disagree with you there, NOTHING is like WinME lol

And hopefully nothing ever will :P
