It has to be an OS issue as I have Win2K SP3 and I get the 'Steam - Error, The Game is currently unavaliable. Please try again at an other time' message too. Poo, I have a damaged drive so I cannot play at ALL without a nocd, ah well here's hoping for a fix.

EDIT: Doh! What an ejit, I have SP4! :D

Dimensio: I only added a few more checks in the path names

Edit: Win2k users, try the DLL attached to this post
Edit2: DLL removed. See below.

dhcpp 22-11-2004 16:03

Oops, I made a mistake. Try this one instead.

Edit: DLL removed

dracflamloc 22-11-2004 16:25

Hey hijack. No luck on Win2k SP4 here: I don't get the errorlog files anymore with the new dll but steam still crashes. Theres no error msgbox or anything it just disappears as if it was going to launch the game but doesn't. I checked the running processes after and neither steam.exe or hl2.exe is there.

Kdjn 22-11-2004 16:29

ditto...

Same for me.....Exactly what the last guy said.....

WhiteWidow 22-11-2004 16:31

I have the same Problem with Win2k Sp4 no msg still crash.

WiKiD 22-11-2004 16:33

great work on the patch... works fine for me ( i actually bought the game, thats probably why ppl are getting errors)

you should also put on your desc on gcw that it works for cs source and hl1 source aswell

just to help you out, im running on xp sp2 :P

Kdjn 22-11-2004 16:36

no I bought it, too

no I bought the game retail....I understand that its Win2k related.

hijack 22-11-2004 16:37

Damn. I'll have to investigate that more but I can't do that right now.

If you can build the DLL (using Dev-C++), try to change the value of the variable "replaced" on line 179 of hijack_dll.c
Quote:

case 0xFFEC8B55: // Win2k SP3 && SP4
replaced = 0;
break;
Try some values between 0 and 20 for example. If you find any working value, post it there.

dracflamloc 22-11-2004 16:40

I'll give it a shot hijack. I'll repost with my results. Actually I had already started looking before you posted that =)

dracflamloc 22-11-2004 16:55

1 Attachment(s)
Fixed the dll:

case 0xFFEC8B55: // Win2k SP3 && SP4
replaced = 6;
break;

6 was the magic number. Win2k: SP4. Attached is the dll I compiled, enjoy all, thanks hijack.

Kdjn 22-11-2004 16:57

I have no programming knowledge whatever.

I feel like Homer Simpson...I keep entering new values, trying the rebuilt .dll, and saying "Doh!"
