Word of warning:
Don't compress poseidon mini-image!!!

It can lock up your PC on reboot.
it seems DT4.06 or STPD1.35 related bug.

More info here:
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/t147...xi-images.html

EDIT:
I spend last hour just trying to fix my PC...

P22 09-11-2006 14:41

Now, this thing is just weird.
I got courage to test 1.02.
And here are my observations.
YASU is blacklisted (nwn2 won't start).

But, if I remove YASU and keep running daemon tools, game will work.

So, I have no idea what SecuRom guys are doing, but it seems while YASU is blacklisted with NWN1.02, Daemon Tools is not anymore.

userfriendly 09-11-2006 15:04

could you please do a step step guide here on the 1.02, cause everyone else can not seem to figure this out

P22 09-11-2006 15:16

Ok, what worked for me:
-installed DT4.06
-installed STPD1.35
-mounted poseidon mini-image with DT
-started patched 1.02 game (no any kind of SecuRom loader necessary)

maltiryan 09-11-2006 15:16

Step 1. Install Daemon Tools v4.06 & SPTD v1.35 (v4.06 doesnt come with SPTD v1.35)

Step 2. Download Poseden image from here http://m0006.gamecopyworld.com/games...nights_2.shtml

Step 3. Mount the image and run the game. Should work with version NWN 2 v1.02 too. (The image won't show up on the virtual drive)

yeah i made that thread at the daemon tools board. i had a a hard time figuring out what was causing the lockups, i got a fixed spdt driver from this guys but i cant give it out, its 1.37 it should be in the next daemon tools version.

userfriendly 09-11-2006 15:50

it worked, but one must start from the loader menu not the exe itself

tj1182 09-11-2006 17:20

I tried every step for 1.02 and it still doesn't work, any ideas?

Nevermind I got it, Didn't work with yasu so I tried it without it and all works fine.

stapletheeyes 10-11-2006 00:07

hey,

"what does could not find any compatible Direct 3d devices" mean?

TippeX 10-11-2006 00:29

means your video card is crap generally...

and/or direct x needs installed...

P22 10-11-2006 00:34

So, is anyone having idea what strange thing is going on in heads of SecuROM guys?

I mean putting loaders as blacklisted, but then removing DT from the blacklist.

This could be due to your graphics card or driver not supporting DirectX 9.0

Just a couple of questions to try and diagnose the problem:

Does the Display tab in dxdiag state that Direct3D Acceleration is 'Enabled'? This can be found in the 'DirectX Features' box. If so, try clicking 'Test Direct3D' to ensure that the 3D acceleration is functioning properly.

Also, what graphics card do you have? This is displayed in the 'Device' Box on the same page.

NWN2 poseden image won't mount.

Other people had the same problem as well...

NWN2 maxi image (poseden, first one) won't mount with D-Tools 4.06 latest.

It mounted fine first time, but ever since it just won't. It says mounted, but nothing is shown under drive letter. Its as if its not there.

Second maxi image does not work well after patches. Only first one works when it mounts right, but it doesn't...

Does anyone know what the problem is?

The maxi image is used to play the game, not to copy files from it.
mount with DT, show or not show the file directory is without detriment to playing game.

It mounts fine in DT4.06

All it says is CD Drive but it's there make sure you check under emulation "All options on" then exit Dt or not I did it both ways and works fine, when on exit it asks "keep emulation options on" click yes and thats it.

The image works fine, I updated yesterday to 1.02 and it works great make sure you have SPTD 1.35 installed, YASU didn't work with me so try it without it first.

Good luck.

DABhand 10-11-2006 21:02

SPTD is not needed, I dont have it installed and it worked fine for me.

Tasslehoff 10-11-2006 22:23

Yep Posedens maxi image works fine for playing NWN2 up to the 1.02 patch. It doesn't list the file contents when mounted but hey I only want to play the game lol. Using the latest Alcohol (4629 build) and DT 4.06 both work.

ahile 11-11-2006 00:46

not working ..

hello,

this game really worked me up :(

_______________________

before installing last SPTD - i cound not run any version of the game (without the original CD)

After installing the 1.02 patch, NWN crashes on me when I try to launch it. ANy ideas?

OverlordQ 11-11-2006 02:43

Ok looking over the bioware forums it seems it's related to new SecuROM, I think we need a updated maxi.

This maxi works fine. It's the securom for the game owners that are playing with the disk, that are having problems.

Try using DT 4 without the YASU and use this image "poseden_MAXI_NWN2"
It should work fine then.

what is DT 4 ?
if u mean Daemon tools, i think every1 here is using 406 - and the game crashes when i try to launch

I`m not using Yasu or anything else

any ideas ?

P22 11-11-2006 07:25

Well, it doesn't crash for me.
Btw, what is crash error you get?

Does it crash with original disc in drive?

MarcusG 11-11-2006 07:25

Here's how I got it to work

Install Neverwinter nights 2

Update the game using the ingame updater

Run Daemon Tools (I'm using 4.03) - all emulation on

Mount the poseden maxi nwn2 image

Exit/Quit Daemon tools

Launch NWN2

kretzen 11-11-2006 08:22

Hi.

Where do I find this maxi image?

Best regards
Rasmus

Joe Forster/STA 11-11-2006 08:45

Obviously, on GCW. Read the forum stickies and the forum FAQ.

ahile 11-11-2006 09:31

Marcus and P22, u guys are lucky (and happy :-) )

for me it does not work with the maxi image (but it does with the orig CD)
with the maxi i get an error in nwnmain.exe

look in page 4 - i posted there the error i get

YucK 11-11-2006 09:55

This is beyond weird :(

I have:

1) Installed and patched the game to 1.02

2) Downloaded and installed Daemon Tools 4.6 and Alcohol 120% (which comes with SPTD 3.5)

3) Downloaded and mounted the maxi image with DT (tried with all emulations and none) Same with A120

4) Tried launching the game only to get an error saying "Original disc could not be found or authenticated" I've tried everything I can think of, any suggestions as to what I might have done wrong?

Thanks in advance.

MarcusG 11-11-2006 10:04

you aren't by any chance using the reloaded crack as well as using the poseden image?

YucK 11-11-2006 10:13

No, not using any crack atm. I used the crack with the 1.01 but I had some issues with a black input box over my chat and some other video bugs. So I had to upgrade. Reinstalled the whole thing and patched it to 1.02. Should be all new files then, no?

Torquemurder 11-11-2006 11:56

Hopefully this will help someone else...

I tried the various mini/maxi images and only had a little bit of luck with the posiedon version; unfortunately it locked up my PC fairly regularly due to some kind of bug it DT. I finally got things working for my English, North American DVD release, using patch 1.02. Here's how:

1. I made a full image of NWN2 using Blindwrite (I tried Alcohol, but had no luck; perhaps I was using an older version?)

2. Mounted the BT image in DT406 and the latest SPDT. Did NOT enable any kind of emulation, and did NOT use YASU.

3. Game works. Every time, with no lockups or crashes.

MarcusG 11-11-2006 12:27

YucK, cannot understand why this sucker aint working for you man?

You tried a complete re-install of NWN2? - clean all the shit from temp dirs etc?

Have you tried with DT 4.03? - just a thought.

YucK 11-11-2006 12:45

I will give reinstalling another shot. Then I will post back here with all the steps I did. Will also try an older version of DT. When I install Alcohol120 it said that SPDT was installed with it. This should cover DT aswell?

Edit: It did not work this time around either :( Any help would be great. The only thing I have noticed is that it takes quite some time to mount the image in DT and A120. Around a min or so I'd say. The same goes for extracting it (although that could be because of the size).

Is it possible to make my own? Or would I be better of trying to get this one working?

CypSteel 12-11-2006 18:35

Time to give back to the community...

My first post, after the time I wasted on NWN2, I decided to give back to the community.

After sharing the same experience with Yuck...trying everything and nothing working...I was ready to give up. I consider myself a very good methodical troubleshooter and giving up was one of the things I don't do very often, especially when so many others say theirs is working.

Low and behold, I decided to do a total reinstall as a last ditch effort. Luckily it paid off. I have repeated it on 4 machines and all of them work with the exception of one machine not having a good enough video card.

Here is a step by step for those that might still need:

1. If you have tried to make it work, do an uninstall. Do not just delete the directory, but do a full uninstall. You can reach it in the Atari submenu of your start menu. If you do it correctly, it should ask you if you want to keep your save games. I chose "no". ( Do not skip this step, I know it takes a while, but I fiddled with my old install probably well over 4 hours...)

2. Make sure you have DT 4.06HE and SPTD 1.35. You can find links to both of these on http://www.daemon-tools.cc .

3. Physically disconnect your cdrom drives. I did this by disabling my primary and secondary IDE controllers in the BIOS. I knew I could do this because my hard drives are SATA. You can also just unplug the power cable or ribbon cable from your CDROM. I tried the "Disable" in device manager and that didn't work for me. You should only have 1 CDrom (virtual DT) at this step.

4. Do a full install of NWN2. Also now perform update to 1.2.809 or whatever.

5. Now run YASU and make sure it says it hid your DT cdrom. You can find this on http://www.gamecopyworld.com Only run this once!!!

6. Now mount the Posidean Maxi Image with NO emulation options in DT. You can also find this image on http://www.gamecopyworld.com My maxi image wouldn't pull up in Explorer, but the game didn't seem to mind. Once I followed the above steps, it fixed my crashing and "emulator detected" errors and everything ran like a dream.

7. Then run NWN2 from the start menu. Mine fired up on all 4 machines!!!

Good luck and I hope my first post was constructive!

TippeX 12-11-2006 22:26

so essentially...

clean install of the game.. dont run it
install dt latest version and latest sptd
physically disconnect any cd / dvd drives.. << probably how you got it working
mount the image
run yasu
run the game..

disable not working for you in device manager is probably chipset dependant too

CypSteel 13-11-2006 07:32

Yep...your probably right Tippex...but I wanted to lay it out step by step for those that might need the extra help and guidance. Sometimes its easier to find all the information together than bits and pieces of it over 5 pages of replies.

DABhand 13-11-2006 09:25

Do keep in mind that your only allowed to play the game on one machine, unless you purchase more copies :)

CypSteel 13-11-2006 16:49

Absoulutely DABhand, I was just setting it up so I can play from any room in the house. Doesn't everyone have a computer set up next to the toliet for NWN2?
