hypnos, mit der original cd im laufwerk läuft das game wunderbar. leg sie doch einfach ein.

das geht nicht mein dvd laufwerk funktioniert nich ganz richtig und deshalb nimmt er die original dvd nicht das hatte ich auch schon bei anderen spielen deshalb muss ichs eben andersrum machen ......
auf jeden fall hab ich ein dvd abbild geamcht hab die gwc datei in den ordner kopiert und das image gemounted nur weiß ich nicht wie ich ein virtuelles laufwerk auf ein Normales laufwerk mounten kann

OK when I run it without the crack it loads partially and then says insert cd. So as someone mentioned, I created a new virtual cd from the image I had. I then downloaded the fixed vc6 from GCW and put it into the VCFolder and mounted it on my real drive. Now instead of saying anything about no cd, it brings up the 1701 square logo in the middle of the screen and freezes up Initializes Speilen or something, so it seems like its getting a bit farther and then locking up.

hahaha ok right after I posted that I tried again and it worked. So heres a quick run down of what I did to get this damn game to finally work.

- Open Virtual CD 8
- Create virtual cd (direct it to the image that you have)
- It will go through a list of shit that it has to do, once its done open the folder in which you let create, (mine was My Documents > Virtual CD's > Anno 1701
- Download the updated image from GCW
- Extract your GCW file into the folder where the virtual cd creates
- Un mount every virtual drive u have and remove them, so you should just be left with you REAL DISK DRIVES dont leave ANY virtual drives going.
- Through virtual cd, now mount the image you downloaded from GCW (in the folder that VCD created as previously stated mine was in my documents.) When you mount it MOUNT IT TO YOUR REAL CDROM/DVDROM DRIVE do NOT use a virtual drive.
- Now simply run the disk from my computer, press start on the autorun and PLAY!


NOTES: If at first you dont succeed, try, try again.
- Rebooting helped, if its locked up on initilizate or whatever reboot and try again.

At first i say sorry for my bad english. ;)

I did it in the order you wrote it, but it won t work. Everytime i launched the game just a few seconds after, i have a black sceen, and the pc is freezed. But in the black screen i see the "Anno"-mouse-symbol so i think that it works. So i try and try but i have still the same errorr.

The main problem i think is that the virtual CD-image from GCW has the ending .vc6 and the file which gets created by virutal cd has .vc4

Did anybody have the same problem, if you dont understand my problem please tell me, then i will try to write it better.

just a sideinfo: 40 seconds after starting it crashed.. by the way i was able to play the demo..

create a virtual image of your existing Anno1701 image or DVD with automatic copy then copy the gwc file into D:\Daten\Virtual CDs\ANNO1701 (thats my path) this is also the folder wehre you can find the new copy of the created Dvd Image. Then mount the gwc file form this folder into your physicial drive 4 example by me (E:Anno1701) then lunch it and if it dont works try again sometimes is works sometimes not

Frido1000: Shut down your firewall if you have one enabled or try to run Anno1701.exe from your installed game folder and not with autorun mode i had the same problem but now it works after i have shut donw my firewall so try it

edit: ok it seems that this doesnt still work after all so forget about the thing with firewall or autostart its not the problem still working on it ....

dont know why it doenst work yesterday it works now i have started the game 10 times, 10 times my pc frezzed and chrashed , 10 times i ihave to reboot.....

@hypnos: i tried it out but still doesnt work... i am helples, i have tried several "burning" options (Automatic copy, Geometry copy, Exact copy, Full copy, normal copy or block copy) but i dont notice any effect. I just restartet my system about 15 times now, i am fed up with it.

do i have to delete the virtual RAM-Drive too ?
how often do you have to restart your system until it worked ?
what for errors apper by you ?


EDIT: lol it seems that this game ist the most incalculable game of chance. one time it workds and 18 time it chrases, now i s*** on it !

Ok after I wrote that, I was playing fine. But then I turned it off about an hour later and came back last night to play... when I tried to play it didnt work. So even if you have done all the steps, sometimes it lets you play... sometimes it doesnt... all about luck.

i just got it working after about 20 freezes!!
i pressed the windows-key about 1 sec after the background turned black and the mouse-symbol (sand glass) showed up (right before the game normaly crashes)!
maybe that was just luck but you could give it a try!

k, the file from gcworld.com works, I'll tell you how.

You need:
-virtual cd 8.xx
-the .vc6 file from gcworld

now, mount the image, install the game.
then you start virtual cd, there you go in the first drop down menu from the left, select "create virtual disc" and create a virtual disc from your mountet image. name the virtual disc ANNO1701
once it is done, you go to the folder with your just createt virtual disc and replace the .vc6 file with the one from gcworld.
if your file is a .vc4 file, just rename the one from gcworld to .vc4

now the important thing:
fist, mount the virtual disc with a virtual drive, created by virtual cd (disable ALL other virtual drives).
start the game. you'll get an error. click ok. now you're back on your desktop. now unmount the virtual drive and mount your physical drive with the virtual cd (you should be able to select it somewhere in the virtual cd options, i can't help you there because I have the german version).
now start the game again->it works.
if it doesn't work, try again.
it is crucial that you FIRST mount a virtual drive, and after that your physical drive.

another thing i have noticed if your pc crashes at the beginning try to unplugg (turn off) your internet connection. Sounds strange but it worked for me.

My computer (AMD CPU, EPoX Mainboard, ULi Chipset) freezes also with this procedure...
Don't know if it works with various tries but it's unacceptable to get it to work on this way with several freezes...

OK a little discovery, go into your virtual cd's folder, and double click your fixed image that you downloaded from GCW. When it opens it has a bunch of settings you can change, but specifically in "Autorun Program" point it to your anno1701.exe in its official install directory. Now just to let you now as of posting this I have not been able to play, and additionally as of this post I have not been able to get into the game at all since my last post in which I mentioned that it was finally working. But what this new thing allows, is anno loads, but it gets stuck at a white screen but it DOES NOT FREEZE YOUR COMPUTER, forcing you to reboot. So I believe this is small progress.

Ok I am redoing the whole method and changing a couple things, as soon as I find out if it works or not ill repost.

it is all about luck...

i do the following. i have two PCs, one laptop one normal. Since one day by the normal pc anno is still runing in the backgorund i never shut it down. And all the othter stuff which i have to do, i do it on the laptop. So if you have 2 pcs just let one run all the time. Simple trick o_0

If you dont have 2 PCs your luck must be very hight.. i tried it often but somtimes it works.

I know that luck is the dominating thing but so it worked 2 ! times.
-start pc
-disable all virtual-drives
-mount image in the GCW-Image in the physical-drive
-now check that you CPU-Temperature is low (if my CPU-Temperatur was high it never worked )
-now i have started it from the CD 3 times and presst after the autoran-screen each time "Beenden" (=Exit) and at the 4th time i presst "Start" (=Play) and than it works, by me.

i know it sounds very stupid, and i think too that it was just luck but probably it help somebody.

Yay! Alright I finally got in again. I simply loaded it into virtual drive (for the millionth time), told vc to execute autorun and started the game. I have done this sooooo many times... and this is now the second time it worked, so really folks until a proper exe for nocd is released to remove the protection completely it will be a hit or miss science, no stupid little gimmicks and tricks will work like. ... to get it to work mount image into physical drive, stand up from your chair blow one kiss north, spin around 4 times, click your mouse 4 times wait 10 seconds and then run the game... no none of this shit will work you must just keep restarting your computer on freeze and try and try and try again. ONCE ITS OPEN DO NOT CLOSE IT OR YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS WHOLE PROCESS OVER AGAIN!

Edit: If you are keeping it open but you have a semi-public computer where other family members or in my case my girlfriend uses the computer. You can download a very small program called WinMizer its freeware and easily found on a google search. This program just lets you hide open windows, so you can hide your anno 1701, people can use the computer without accidently closing it so you don't have to go through the hassle. Hope this has been some help to others, this game is a bunch of fun. If anyone expresses interest, ill post pictures with translated names by now I have figured out what almost every german term in the game means haha... anyways good luck guys

Well done so far but there's a small thing in the way u mount the vc4 that i don't understand:
The Point is that i don't know how to disable the last virtual Drive with Virtual CD ... I think there is a limit so that u need to leave one virtual drive aktivated...
... So I mounted the "new" image file (which I renamed to .vc4 in the right path of the new image folder) with my physikal drive, after I did the same with the Virtual one.
After that I could see only a black Window with the "Loading" mouse sign of Anno1701... I waited for around 35min but the window won't dissappear and the game aint started thou.
I think this is because I didnt disable the last virtual drive... and I also didnt know that u can mount a virtual CD in a physical drive :confused:

EDIT: I just mountet the image in my virtual, then the physical (one virtual drive still aktivated but un-mounted) and then the black screen with the loading sign appeared again. I controled my processes with the tast manager and i saw that the "anno1701.exe" was on "no response" status ... i got quite a lot of CPU capacity so it didnt freeze my computer so i just canceled the process structure.
Is it possible that u just have to wait some hours until the game gets started ? .. well, but more probably its just the fact that I didn't deactivate my last virtual drive, coz it don't know how to. :cool:

The same problem here.

I've done exactly as said in the picture tutorial. In the last step after
mounting the .vc4 -image I see the sandclock and a black screen... and then it freezes

I hope somebody can deliver a crack or something that works as soon as possible. :)

I think I've got another way to get it to work and you don't have to disable the last Virtual drive :)

It work's reproducable on my computer. The other way's don't work (my computer freezes).

I'll try to explain it as good as I'm able to but my english isn't the best :(

1. Reboot so you get a "clean" Windows
2. Mount the Image in the physical drive
3. Start game --> Please insert correct disc
4. Unmount image
5. Mount image in the virtual drive
6. Start game --> Please insert correct disc
7. Unmount image
8. Mount it again in the physical drive
9. Start it
10. Should work :)

And please mount it in a special way. You have to use another option but I installed VirtualCD in german, so I don't know how the option is named in english but I've made an screenshot:

Nope, it wont work at all. Tried a hell lot of ways but it either freezes or it just says the i have to insert the od.

I guess it is the best to whait for an crack.

Ok that last set of instructions didnt work for me as soon as I mount to physical drive it freezes. But guys seriously if you really want to play you have to pick one method and keep trying, the method that has worked for me the most (about 30% of the time overall) is simple:

Im assuming you've done all the steps in preparing your image as I've explained as well as others how to do.
- Load windows
- Open VCD, mount image into virtual drive let it autorun, start and then it will say insert cd.
- Close ANNO, and goback to vcd and remount the image into your physical drive. Let it autorun and start the game. DONT DO ANYTHING ELSE just stick to this simple thing and be persistant. If you do this and it freezes 10 times in a row, go hang yourself cause life sucks, I think for most people doing this should get them into the game in less than 5 tries, it ussually takes me 3 times.

tried everything - and it keeps freezing...i also tried with an uninstall of alc and daemon instead only using an hiding tool - no way...so i have to wait for an exe - cause buying for each compi the game will be too expensive.:(

Unfortunately for you the EULA states you can only install the game on one machine at a time, if you install it on another machine then you are meant to uninstall it from the other machines first.

Suddenly I can't start the game anymore! Before yesterday never ever an error occured, no freezing or anything else. But since yesterday evening there is no chance to start the game! I tried aprox. 40 times - no chance!

Is it possible, that "they" sent something to disable this image???

So here is what works for me everytime.

1. Installed VC latest Edition Demo
2. With VC converted my ANNO.mds image to an VC image
3. Got 4 files anno.000, anno.001 anno.002 anno.vc4
4. Delete anno.vc4 and replace it with the one from the mini image. Rename it to anno.vc4
5. Install 2 virtual drives, one drive enable sharing with your 1st physical drive.
6. Mount the image on the lone virtual drive (drag an drop in the VC Manager)--->Please insert Disk Message appears.
7. Dismount image and drag it onto your shared virtual drive.
8. Play!

@ Razor666: What exactly do you mean by

Where are those options to make a virtual drive "share" with 1st physical drive?
Or do you just mean one virtual drive and one physical drive that can be used as virtual drive?

What u have to do for 100% working is:

1) Mount it on ur virtual drive
2) Wait for autorun
3) Click play
4) In that second the Game is actualy starting ( but u are still in windows ),
u give the command to mount it on phyisical drive
5) now u wont get "put original cd in"-message but the startingscreen of anno

it should work for u 2

Der Kopierschutz generell arbeitet mehrschichtig. Ein Teil des Kopierschutzes ist auf der CD/DVD verankert (na no na ned ) und arbeitet dort mittels Umgangssprachlich "Twin Sectors" genannten System. Der Name sagt es schon teilweise es gibt mehrere Sektoren doppelt auf der CD die aber an verschiedenen Plätzen und mit verschiedenen Daten gespeichert sind.

Der Zweite Teil liegt in den hier umstrittenen installierten Treiber/"Rootkits"/Malware (zur Namensgebung später mehr). Wenn die Exe fürs Programm (Games sind auch Programme) gestartet wird schickt der im System verankerte Treiber Anfragen an das CD Laufwerk und fragt die vorhin beschriebenen Twin Sektoren ab. Wo die Sektoren liegen müssen auf der CD, ist im Teiber und der Exe verschlüsselt zueinander hinterlegt. Der Teiber weiss nun also das er den Sektor 123456, welcher 2mal vorhanden ist auf der CD, überprüfen muss um festzustellen ob es die Original CD ist. Weiters weiss der Treiber das der fragliche Sektor im Bereich 111111-130000 liegen muss. Was der Treiber nun tut ist das er das CD Laufwerk anweist den Sektor 111111 zu lesen um gleich anschliessend den Sektor 123456 zu suchen. Da das CD Laufwerk von "Vorne/unten" kommend den Sektor 123456 sucht und schliesslich auf findet bekommt der Treiber Datensatz A geliefert. Der Treiber speichert sich dies mal und schickt das CD Laufwerk auf den Sektor 130000. Danach gleich retour zu den Sektor 123456. Da das CD Laufwerk nun von hinten kommt und auch einen Sektor 123456 findet aber eben den Twin Sektor liefert er dem Treiber Datensatz B retour. Treiber vergleicht und sieht das die Anfragen unterschiedlich sind ergo Twin Sektor gefunden ergo Original CD und gibt das Programm frei."
