Bypassing the protection is illegal. Correct? Again, lets assume you agree.

Since you have bypassed the protection, you have broken the law, because it states you may not bypasss protection. Correct? Its up to you to agree or not.

If the game is giving you an error, then you shoud contact technical support. Correct? I think so.

So, if this game is giving you problems with playing while you have legal software installed, and you are a 100% legal customer, this means that you have a technical difficulty that the publisher should resolve for you.

Now, lets assume that you dont feel like wasting the time and money on your phone bill to contact a publisher on the other side of the globe. You can visit this forum, and ask for guidance.
This guidance will involve bypassing the protection, therefore illegal, as said above. However you get what you payed for, and no one is harmed.

But dont ever mistake your actions as legal. They arent. If they want to sue your ass off, and they have good lawyers, you are screwed.

What I am trying to say is, your method is not legal, but it gets the job done, and it doesnt harm anyone, so no one cares, and there is a next to zero chance you will be sued.

But do not be under the false illusion that it is legal. It isnt.

1.like i said i didn't create the program i just simply compiled it (its also for private use not public thats why i don't give it out very easy)
2. it modifys your registry and that has nothing to do with the game at all since millions of programs write/read/modify the registry its not my fault they have buggy protection that conflicts with a registry entry seems like its their fault the protection doesn't work correctly (how would i know it breaks their protection?) .
3.Blacklisting software thats not illegal in anyway just because the publisher thinks a user "might" copy or play without a cd is infact a violation of a law somewhere, think what would happen if microsoft blacklisted firefox or some other program because it could do windows update or they just assumed it did bad they would get their asses sued (think this already happened in the past).
4. the game doesnt give me any problems what so ever and i am active on the fear forums helping in whatever way i can, I happen to pay alot for my cd /dvd drives and like to keep my hardware in pristen condition and whileat it have less lag caused from spinups and spindowns / other programs accessing my drive this is really the only reason i like to play with no cd (also to keep original in perfect condition) i would assume you are here for the same reason if not why are you here on this forum?

so if you think that modifying the systems registry just "happens" to break their protection checks and would hold up in court your very wrong.

just them blacklisting legit software is a crime itself, I can't wait untill daemon tools becomes commercial ware i wonder if the protection companys would even touch it

caki 15-11-2005 21:25

Ok, if its a registry modifying program then, nothing special...

As for the thing where publishers are breaking the law, they can do whatever they want. They have the money. If you wanna sue them, go ahead. Howeer, they can sue you, if your either guilty or not guilty IF THEY WANT TOO. So dont give them a reason to want to do that.

Im here on this forum to help, like you :)

And anything can hold up in court if they have the money on their side.

You'll be surprised, thats what I think. The protection companies can do what they want, because there is no one opposing them. And like I said, they have the money, and the backing of publishers, who have even more money.

And as for the MS things, where it blacklists Firefox, I think they can do that, they just have to say in the EULA:

By using this OS you agree not to install any mozilla products... bla bla bla

And they can get away with it. I think :D

Point is, they can do what they want. May your intentions be legal or illegal, all they have to do is make up a ton of BS and you're screwed.

But look on the bright side, the only people they really sue are the guys making the cracks, not people like us.

All I see from that Japanese guy now is Blah Blah Blah..

He cant hold a proper argument and hes direspectful, saying blah blah blah to rendari.

How rude!

:P

sylvio 16-11-2005 03:05

I am always use the game's builded update feature if allowed. Nearly 100%
sure and not any problems with the original. Also if has some bugfixes what
you get in the game when you playing? Really need the update patch I guess
So, one more thing: sometimes the updated game's saves INCOMPATIBLE
with the older version(s). If you want to play to the END of the game, you
sure make the update patch 1ST (e.g. Dungeon Siege 2 etc.). I see 1st the
SAVE compatibility on the update features, next the bugfixes.
(e.g. when I played CHASER I make MUCH of the patches of the bugs in
my PC, etc. etc.).
I tried the F.E.A.R. MaxiMini-Image with v1.02 update on DaemonTools 4.00
and WORKS PERFECTLY. NO FREEZES or any problems i don't have yet.
AND ofcourse I put back my ORIGINAL DVD to the Box.... For a while??

Just thought I share it with you considering the topic tittle was FEAR 1.02.

-dragonx

(AND TO GET MY 100TH POST!!!!!!!!)

darkclaw 16-11-2005 19:24

Fully working solution, tested on Daemon Tools 4.0:

1. Create a new account/user (not administrator) in windows with password, for example called FEAR.
2. Deny the access to following registry keys (not only read acces, deny full access):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SCSI\ and then the scsi port which is from dt or also a second from alcohol for example scsi port 3 and scsi port 4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\D-TOOLS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MOUNTEDDEVICE
and if exists
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MOUNTEDDEVICE1
3. Now mount the FEAR image with dt as administrator. Click right on the FEAR desktop icon and choose "Execute/Run as", now choose the created account/user (FEAR) and put in the password and press OK.
4. Play

Doesn't work for me. With or without this method, FEAR starts ans runs with 100% cpu but nothing happens.

BTW, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\D-TOOLS doesn't seem to exist with DT4. I installed DT4 on a newly installed system.

UPDATE:
Just tested the new image that has been posted. Does not work. FEAR just takes 100% CPU and thats it.

UPDATE2:
I rebooted with disabled PATA-Controller while i was trying to get SplinterCellCT to run. Now also FEAR runs.
It looks like other IDE-disablers doesn't work correct with my nvidia-Board.

IngoPan 21-11-2005 13:20

Hi!

Someone got the Dedicaded Server working after replacing teh enginexxx.dll ? My one always crashes ;(

LoedD 21-11-2005 13:27

U just need to unplug your devices and mount in DT4.

lollerrofl 21-11-2005 13:48

the 1.02 crack is out check gcw ;)

BarryB 21-11-2005 14:18

Yep, EMPORiO to the rescue :)

Just reinstalled my game (I finished it with the 1.01 patch) and updated to 1.02 and used the crack, works fine for me. Played three levels and no problems, saved games load back too. Not going to play through it again to make sure, finished it once and it's not really worth replaying.

Can't be arsed with MP so not worried if that don't work, but SP seems fine!

WardoggOne 21-11-2005 17:36

if there could be a crack for fear 1.02 so then every other sr7 game

Muyfa666 21-11-2005 21:58

Emporio rocks the cradle... again! :-)

sylvio 21-11-2005 22:45

I have the Original F.E.A.R. DVD (not the Director's Cut verson!) and also I
hate to put my Original Media always at start the game, so:
- Mount the Spirity Mini-Image FEAR.MDF/FEAR.MDS (DT4)
(download from GCW)
- Start SFNIGHTMARE.EXE and DISABLE CD (exit SFN)
- Start SECU_7_BURNER_LOAD.EXE and browse YOUR installed
F.E.A.R. path's FEAR.EXE and start game

If exit from the game, then SFN -> ENABLE CD and UNMOUNT MI

Perfect working. If you get a Message by S7B.L. like this
"UNABLE TO GET SECRET VALUE" simple click OK

I will try Emporio's crack if I downloaded from...

WardoggOne 21-11-2005 23:41

the only dvd version IS the director's cut version

sylvio 22-11-2005 00:00

Yes, I've made a mistake in my Post. I get the F.E.A.R. DVD Director's Cut
version with my new PC, I tried FEAR v1.02 Mini-Image from GCW, but the
DIRECTOR'S CUT V1.02 MINI-IMAGE VERSION was DIDN'T worked for me!!
So, I put this note TO THE BAD DIRECTION/PLACE in my Post. The right one
of my part:

- Mount the Spirity Mini-Image FEAR.MDF/FEAR.MDS (DT4)
(download from GCW, I used NOT the Director's Cut version!)

Sorry for my bad English... "I am old and senilith..."

Unfortunately, he doesnt rock as the dedicaded server .dll isnt cracked properly and no one is able to open a MP server this way. @Emporio: Plz fix this ;) Thanks in advance.

Spirit_IN_Black 23-11-2005 06:22

i used alcohol and anti blaxx dor the 1.02 with the mini image downloaded from gcw with all the protections available on anti blaxx but always i get this message:a required security module can not be activaded.this program cant be executed.
any ideas???

Mugros 23-11-2005 06:35

I didn't need AntiBlaxx, Alcohol120 or the online mini image.
Just make an image of your DVD and use Daemon Tools 4 and disable your IDE controllers.

BarryB 23-11-2005 06:37

Use the 1.02 crack on GCW and you won't need to mount anything!!

I think the 'Security module' message is when you have something running that is blocking Securom, example is Starforce Nightmare. If I have this running and launch a Securom game like GTA:San Andreas, I get this message, so check if you can find anything running that might interfere with Securom. I'd also use SR7Stop (if using DT3.47 or lower) rather than Anti-Blaxx too!

Hmmm, so I have noticed!! I kinda closed all the other threads and deleted the new one you created!
DO NOT multiple post like that again!! It wont get your answer any quicker and just clutters up the forum and is downright annoying!!

Read the Forum Rules and the FAQ!

Use this Thread only!

shooter2020 19-12-2005 23:27

Grumpy 19-12-2005 23:58

@shooter2020
Does the game work when using only the original disc to play without using a crack of any sort?

shooter2020 20-12-2005 00:00

Ive never had the original cd. I got the game online.

That be warez right there. Against the rules incase you didn't know.

Grumpy 20-12-2005 03:41

@shooter2020
You really should have taken my first advice which was:

Read the Forum Rules

Now you are banned! No Warez!

Anti669 20-12-2005 04:16

Wow, this guy really went crazy bumping month-old threads, didn't he?

christian_sch1 27-12-2005 22:28

more problems

Hello
unfortunally i´ve got a problem with Fear.
Updated from 1.01 to 1.02 working fine but throug walking to levels the game crash during auto-save(levelsave) and windows tells me: Fear.exe got a problem: ModVer: 1.2.0.0 Offset: 00102ff9

What´s wrong?

Jeffrey 09-01-2006 18:30

FEAR can be legally downloaded

Ummm, I think you banning him was a bit premature. You can legally buy and download FEAR online.

Just go:
http://promos.vugames.com/feardemo/

And although it says demo in the link, it lets you purchase the full game.

Grumpy 09-01-2006 18:56

@Jeffrey
If this was indeed the case he would have re-registered and argued he did legally download it. ;)

m-p{3} 16-01-2006 16:41

What would be the use of banning people if they can do another account ?

BarryB 16-01-2006 17:50

Well I think the mods can check and see if the IP addresses of new members matches banned ones, and if so then re-ban them :)
