Actually this idea would save Sony money and hassle in units that they know is a busted lens and the team in chage of changing lenses (a division in Sony) would no longer be needed.

Better idea..... how about Sony actually spends some money/time and researches a very high quality laser that will last for years to come. Also I highly doubt that many people would have the technical know how, even with on screen instructions (which by the way how would you use these while disassembling the PS3) to actually do something like your suggestion. Also Sony I’m sure would rather get the cash to repair your worn out, out of warranty unit any way, so instructions on “how to do it yourself” will never happen. Just like with the mod scene, they don’t want people opening OUR units and mucking around in there.

Who cares if some ideas are dumb. The best ideas are sparked off the insperation of dumb ones.

Thats right... But maybe something like a little lid that when opened it gives you access to the lens like ink cartridges! You pull the old one out and thats it! Actually This could be good because third partys could develop better lenses that work equal or better than the original one!
But still could repesent on game-specific incompatibilities... hmmm...

hmm... bah... it wont happen anyway so

best of all would be for sony to actually listen to the consumer and give them what they ask for...

Rather than them just throwing out a cheaply built badly designed console every 5 years that relies on the initial sucess of the ps1.

Don't they realise that if they keep kicking out crap playstations they will lose more and more buyers to other consoles with each incarnation.

They started at the top of the curve but are rapidly sliding down it. Is the PS4 gonna be an atari jaguar?

I think nintendo should remake the N64, maybe with some new features and maybe be a cd console.. So I/we can play our fav N64 games on a great console.

n64, sega are the best consoles despite their lack of graphics, they have the best selection, best game play and just all round great. might have to chip my n64.
