need replace dll dbghelp.dll in safe mode, in normal mode no, windows replae automatically the modified dll for default dll and never work this.

Cowsheep 31-05-2010 12:27

Or copy dll to Olly or game .exe dir:) Works fine without replacing windows dlls.
Well now, it complains about a found debugger.

[Psych] 31-05-2010 12:52

Yeah, confirmed. Works on Win7 too. I'd just read DB's thread on CEF where he talks about that. So in any app in which you wish to debug this crap (Olly, CE, etc) copy this into it's directory so it uses that rather than the windows default. This is all well and good, but do we know WHY this works, and where was that dll taken from?

h4x0r # 31-05-2010 12:56

the dll is downloading the latest microsoft debugging tools.

Current Release version 6.12.2.633 – February 26, 2010

Yeah he offers a solution, but doesn't explain why that works, and why the old file is no good. It's also strange that this worked on Windows 7. The version of the dbghelp.dll file here is higher/more recent than that on XP, but using the replacement file still worked :/ Ahh well. At least it can be debugged under something. Better Olly than CE at any rate.

@Cowsheep or anyone else wanting to fire up/attach to VMProtect apps (not necessary just the said file above), check:

Disable all other plugins, otherwise there's no telling what might conflict etc, unless you know exactly what you're doing I suppose. I've attached the plugin too. I think this was uploaded a page back on here, but just in case. You also might want to look into a anti-anti-hardware BP plugin. Ollyadvanced has the feature, and do do some standalone plugins it seems. You can grab all manner of RE stuff from tuts4you.

This was tested on a vanilla Olly 1.10 here, Win7.

Cheers ;)

is NOBODY going to thank me for posting the link? in know you hate me h4x0r but you should at least acknowledge that i helped you here by posting that link and info. before then all your trainers were crashing miserably (as were people having probs attaching memsearchers, etc.)

at any rate, glad you guys got it working-

also thanks to psych and others for posting their BP and anti-debug stuff..

this is how it is supposed to work in here-
