If you want to help members preform the MC exploit we dont care as long as your signature dont include any Warez or links to Warez sites.

Still having same prob?
Is i use a RF cable every thing is ok?

Think the disk is forcing tv to run at 60hz and tv may not suport 60hz?

Any ideas?

Ps only having problem with scart lead

Tyrantix 13-01-2006 14:07

Such a popular thread, but what are chip prices (on average) and what would you recomend cos all I want to do is let my PAL PS2 play american NTSC games Oh and it's a SCPH-50003 if that helps?

Try a H2O - a new chip from the people behind the ICE code - which powers the reliable, and very cheap, Duo2. Hell - you could even go with a Duo 2 if you wanted :)

Absolutely, Nothing wrong with a Duo2 :)

A few things about the exploit.

1) It does not work on V12 and latter consoles (the Slim PSTwo's)

2) Unless you have a friend with a modded PS2 you will need some way of getting the exploit on your memory card in the fist place. So you will need to purchases something like Swap magic with a flip top or one of those slide cards that will brake your tray gears over time, or Codbreaker, Action replay I think you can use too, or an official HDL or HDA. None of these discs are what I would call cheap to purchase and in fact might cost about the same as a low end chip installation in the end. So why not just go with the mod chip in the first place.

3) What simplesnake is not telling you about the exploit also is that what you will be doing is installing a homebrew app like uLaunchelf to your memory card and from there booting HDL from your memory card because the exploit does not allow you to boot games from disc. But with HDL you would be able to access games you have installed to your HDD with winhiip and boot them from the HDD. So if you dont already have a Sony network adaptor you will need to purchase one for lets say $20-$30 and then if you dont have a spare HDD sitting around you will need to purchase one and you don't want just a little HDD because PS2 games are large so lets go with at least a 40GB HDD that will run you around $50-$60.

4) To trigger the exploit you need an original PSX disc. They are pretty cheap to find these days so thats not a big deal but just the fact that you have to use a disc to use the exploit is kind of crappy.

There is no secret agenda here, a modded PS2 with HDL is a much more powerful combination then the exploit alone. This is why I and others suggest it. With a Dev1 mod chip like the MI or CC there is no complex procedures for getting HDL to boot. With the MI or CC you dont need to worry about patching your ISO's to NTSC or PAL as the chip does it all.

Now the "other alternatives" simplesnake is ssshhhing about I'm assuming was in reference to the DMS line of chips. Dont get me wrong the DMS chips when working are great however they are about the most buggy chip on the market with the BSOD issues they have.

Now if anyone actually read through all this I will state my suggestion loud and clear. A modded console is hand down a better solution then the exploit. If you happen to have Swap Magic already (or any of the other tools) and a Network adapter then hell your more then half way to being able to use the exploit and I say sh*t yeah give it a try. But even you have to admit simplesnake that a modded console is a better solution then the exploit any day.

No I don't

Who still has their warrenty intact? There's no better feeling than sending my PS2 into sony, shipping about $7, and having them replace the laser for free, ship it back and give me another year's warrenty :D

Most people know someone with sometype of cheat device, if you don't make more friends you weird hermit!

yeah the phat PS2 is what you need, there are new apps being developed as we speak, but this route is for either the tech or the cheap

The last "Cheat Device" I bought cost me $30, and i installed the disk myself

Find me a decent chip and install it at that cost, then again when they first come out all chips are great, what ever happened to the Messiah?

Get a psx demo disc from one of your new friends if you don't have one
Or get chipped, burn out your PS2 and buy another one or get it fixed, I'm sure someone here could profit off those repairs

spedmetal 15-01-2006 17:53

I guess you have never actually sent in your PS2 to Sony for repair. LOL they dont fix the lasers for free any more. That was way back in the day with the poor quality 400B lasers. The warrenty sticker ...haha ... rip it off and stick it to your cats head. Unless you paid for an extended warranty from the store you bought it from if I remeber right the Sony warranty is only good for 90 days anyway.

I would say the exploit is not for the tech at all but 100% for the cheap ass.

I install the Apple Pro's for $25 in the V1-V7's which is cheaper then your $30 cheat device. The Apple pro has all the features of the Messiah which really was never very much. The Messiah was replaced by the current fourth gen chips which are much better.

So in the end a mod chip still shines brighter then your cheap ass exploit.

SimpleSnake 15-01-2006 20:37

I don't think I can give out the number, or tell you what to say to them, but the last PS2 I had repaired was for a friend of mine, it was done about 2 months ago, takes them about 10 days.
Maybe you should try being nice with them on the phone, or maybe they know you mod

No skin off my teeth, Ps2 wasn't built right, psx wasn't either, and i never spent a dime on extending my warranty
Oh, and they updated my drivers to the progressive scan dvd mode too :p

$25 for a chip, I'll keep my warranty thanks, a new ps2 is still like $130, laser parts are probably half that, but I don't know I don't have the need to price parts

Hey ass, keep you're language in check, kids read this stuff, if you get upset about what I write go complain about it in your blog
I've sent in V2s V4s and V7s

How much did you're setup cost?
Lets do a tally
computer with dvd writer and lets say a spindle of dvds?
Your chip, your repair parts, oh and your Soldering Gun, ha
Yeah, still more than my exploit, HD, and network adapter, and my dirty dirty cheat device, ohhhhhhhh

Least I'm not selling anything!

spedmetal 15-01-2006 20:58

I have never needed to send in a console for repairs as I can fix most myself especially laser issues. I know they dont do it for free because when I talk to people about there installs the laser must be working before the install. Some times people opt to send there unit into Sony to have the lasers repaired before they send it to me and its never free. Real modders arent afraid of a warranty sticker. You should see my collection of voided stickers ... it great. Its like the fighter pilots planes.... yes another one down!

I know you like your way because its cheap and the warranty not being voided gives you some sort of false sense of security that Sony will come to your rescue. But if the exploit was so good there would not be as many mod chips being installed as there are.

But dont get me wrong it is a good simple alternative if you already have the tools to do so, but will never be as versatile as a modded console.

SimpleSnake 15-01-2006 22:01

Pending mod approval - Anyone who PMs me about having Sony repair your PS2 I will give you the number and tell you what to say - Note, they make give you a slim line replacement if they deem it cheaper than fixing you're old unit

Yeah, I sent in one that had the usb mod switch and the one wire installed, and no black sticker. You just have to be likable on the phone, have basic social skills, and remove the usb plug and wire, but that was easy enough to undo

And the chip came first, and then another, and then another, I really don't feel like repeating this X times for every chip, and the fake chips! So no wonder people know more about the far from perfect chip

I don't need a chip now, in fact my laser could break right now, and I could still play my PS2 no prob, which one you you chips let you do that???

And I sold that cheat device to someone else for $25, they were gona pay 80 for a chip :p
If cheap is better than yes, yes I am!
Maybe I'll take my laser out and go yes another obsolete part removed from my PS2 :D

How can you do that with out your PSX original to trigger the exploit lol. Oh and by the way any Dev1 mod chip can boot HDL with out a laser hahaha.

lufcfan 16-01-2006 02:30

I must say, Sped is hitting the issue square on the head.

Sounds like somebody is trying to justify using the less popular, less versatile methods of backup.

What about those games which don't work with HDL? Simply use your chip - put your disc in, hit reset and viola!.. Boot from disc :)

Good point. There are a small number of games that are incompatable with HDL that a mod chip will still boot from disc.
