:p shut up..... dont get all sappy on me now. The new generation of chips are going in the direction the Xbox chips went a long time ago. Notice how your Xbox chips arrive with a linux bios that will do nothing more then allow you to boot linux on your xbox..... well the PS2's answer to this is to have a homebrew only bios installed. This is all do to legal reasons ...blah blah blah you get it now I know you do.

Thanks Sped, that is exactly the anwser I was looking for, an actual dipiction as it were.

I thought crystal chip was best, but just wanted to check with the Pro's :p

Oh Sped any ideas if my mate has contacted you about chip install? His nickname is 'Ultim8'. He asked me bout chipping in Cali, and I refered him to you.

It can indeed boot backups - the firmwares to allow this can be found at gamefreax.de :)

(Hope that's OK to post)

Just out of curiosity, that link to gamefreax.de references a .rar file for the CC bios. My question is, how do you get that .rar file to open to reference either the .bin or the .cue? I like the CC, but this is beginning to become a lot of work whereas most chips are ready to go right after install.

I beg to differ my friend. To be honest, It isn't much work to burn a simple Bin/Cue file to a CD-R and boot it.

Simply download WinRAR, extract the .BIN/.CUE files from the RAR Archive, open in Nero and burn to CD-R. Easy.

BTW, all chips will go this way - they'll have to. Sony are cracking down on mod devices due them being able to bypass the inbuilt hardware protection. Soon, all mods will have to be flashed to bypass this protection by the end user if they want to play backups. So, I'd get used to it... :)

You have a VERY good point. But for now, does the MI come this way? Looking to upgrade and deciding between the MI and CC.

lufcfan 05-01-2005 08:15

Yes, it comes as the 'Homebrew' Infinity.

You can still find standard Infinity chips, but not inside the UK and Europe :(

Skelaratus 05-01-2005 08:31

Well I live in Minnesota and was thinking about going with norcalmods. I got a very good reccomendation form a friend. I didnt see anything on their site mentioning that I would need to flash the Infinity, but I guess that is what these forums are about.

seaneyb2003 05-01-2005 08:45

depends if its a homebrew version or standard but i find its always nice to have the latest version anyway

Skelaratus 05-01-2005 09:02

Ok, I am sorry, I am not Windows savy. I am a Unix/Linux person. I am trying to get this .rar open and my WinZip is freaking out. Any suggestions?

lufcfan 05-01-2005 09:10

WinZip won't open RAR files (Read what I said above)

'Download WinRAR and unzip the BIN and CUE Files...'
