Here's a question I don't recall seeing so far:

How does it work with the updating portion of Steam? Will you need the disc then, or will it think you are using the Steam version even in that circumstance? I am assuming they don't have records of who actually bought it over Steam, right? ;)

Updating should work, and the nocd will work until they add specific code in steam to forbid it.
Steam still thinks you use the retail version.

Well, if there is an update for the game, try it, i duno think that they have a list of steam and retail users.

But other question:
To activate the offline modus, you need to save your account settings.
If I do so, i´m able to play without being online and without the dvd in the drive, right?

THX for help

Thanks! I will give your NOCD/DVD patch a try once I can get the upcoming stutter patch from Valve. Would do so now, but the game is unplayable for me currently!

BTW, I hope they don't add any such code, since it'd probably just screw everyone over more so than we are already. In any case, the cynic in me wouldn't be surprised if it ended up giving those with the actual Steam copy problems as well...

sabbey: Even if they add such a code, it should'nt be too hard to update the nocd (for me or someone else, since the code is availiable). Also, the CD protection comes from Vivendi, so I don't think they'll care much about it. They can't release a nocd patch because Vivendi won't allow that. But I think they appreciate that their customers are happier because they can use a nocd.

@ Hijack

These packages are older than the torrent one. The readme is bad copy of the old website and is almost unreadable. Please use the torrent link instead.

Edit: And you don't have to register anything to download it. Simply use a BitTorrent downloader like Azureus (free software)

all hl2.exe's have a size of 86.088 Bytes.

I tryed the torrent version, but there is still the same Error.
When I start hl2.exe it wants filesystem_stdio.dll

Any Ideas?

anonym001: What version of Windows do you use? Is there any other error displayed?

GLH: I asked him to run it to ensure it was not corrupted

Dimensio 22-11-2004 10:49

hijack, what has changed since the original release and the torrent link release?

I'm attempting to grab the torrent now.

Fnatse 22-11-2004 11:17

I have exactly the same problem as anonym001. I'm using Windows 2000 SP3 if that's any help to you.

anonym001 22-11-2004 11:50

I use Windows 2000 SP3, too.
There are no other errors.

I compiled the code myself and used the 2 compiled files in a second try, but there was no different;

Sorry for my bad English (original language is german)

I have the same problem as the previous two posters. Win2k SP3 here also, so it probably is an OS related issue?
