90% sure its the laser that went wrong, cos i switched the lazers and the lazer in the modded ps2 gets a DRE in the unmodded so it must be the laser, now to get the working laser working in the modded one, for some reason the damn cables are real hard to plug in.

gamesmell 27-04-2004 22:49

it would have been better if you disconnected it from the motherbord instead of from the lazer its self (annuming thats what you did)it will be tough getting it back in there make shure you got it right before you start it up or there is a chance you could fry your good lazer
I know some people that ruined there lazer that way

and you know your grammer in not always so good ether Tyler

Connecting a laser shouldn’t be hard to do at the laser end, I’ve done it a few times for cleaning and adjusting. I think some people don’t realize the cable connector has a clip you need to pull out a few mm’s, slide the cable in and then push the clip in. Trying to shove the cable in with the clip engaged could be hard and damage either the cable or the connector. I’m pretty sure the lasers have the clip, I know the mobo does, It’s been a little while since I’ve worked on a PS2 laser. Well, a couple weeks anyway, that’s all the time I need to forget anything.

Afterlife 28-04-2004 06:12

Im having trouble connecting the lazer to the mobo, i disconected it from the mobo by accident and getting it back in is turning to be near impossible cos its real hard to see the slot. Like i connected it and thought i had it connected but when i turned it on it doesnt attempt to even try to read the disc, so I'm assuming its not connected properly, just hoping i dont wreck the cable trying to push it into its slot.

You need to take apart the whole bottom of the PS2, PSU, and remove shielding to properly connect to the mobo. If you pulled it out from the top inside the drive then I’d be worried you damaged something.

yeah its a b***h to hook the laser to the board theres not my elbo room in the ps2

gamesmell 28-04-2004 12:52

I have not workid on a ver 5 before but if its like the ver 4 and 7 the slot it gos in the mother bord lifts up with (dont know exsackley what to call it) its got clasp like thingy that connects the cable to the motherbord so you dont relly have to forse it in you just have to lift it up stick it in hold it in place and push the thingy back down

So my attempts to fix my broken ps2 have been in vain.

So my second ps2 has a lazer that would work in it, but while trying to swap lazers I have done something which has stopped the ps2 from opening the disc tray or even loading.

The red light comes on and i can power the ps2 on but no picture comes on and the eject button no longer works. I think I might have blown a fuse or something. At least I have the other non modded ps2 still, just means all my backups are useless :(

If anyone knows how i can fix the eject or whatever, or knows of someone who wants to buy a broken ps2 which is also modded or something lemme know.

You sure everything is pluged up correctly on the MB as well as the laser

Like I said before, you could have sold a working ps2 and have gotten 80% of your money back on it to put towards a new ps2.

I guess some people have to learn things the hard way.

It wasnt working man, wouldnt play a single thing, and 80% of the money back would have been 280 Canadian, whiich is like 200 american cos i paid 350 for it when I bought it. And plus I allready inquired as to how much I coulda got for it which would have been 50 US, plus i pay shipping so a total of like 30 canadian, as shipping over to the US aint cheap.

Im gona take it to a mod guy i know to see if he can solve the eject problem, and then i might order a laser (need a type R v5 if anyone has)

TylerDurden 29-04-2004 17:19

Whatever man. I really meant you could have gotten enough cash out of it for a new one. Heck you said you had a working ps2. So why didnt you just sell or mod that?

Seems to me that your going in all the wrong directions. But whatever, I know Im not gonna get you to see the light.

Tyler!
