ive had a check at the wiring and moved the clk wire and taped them out the way a bit better. First checked it with some divx movies and seems to be playin with no buzzing, left them running for a good few hours, then just as i was about to try something else the buzzing came back. but what ever ive done with the wiring seems to have lengthened the time it takes for the buzzing to appear. So then tried some cdr backup games and they so far look ok but still some freezing from some of them though im not sure if this could just be bad media or not. The one thing ive noticed is that original dvd games and films play with no problems at all is there any reason for this

lufcfan 13-03-2004 03:34

I think the freezing is down to crap media...

COFANGO 13-03-2004 09:35

any brand media you can recommend? ive been using infiniti white tops as i use them for everything else but not sure about the ps2 though

lufcfan 13-03-2004 09:58

Get some Ritek G04 :D

COFANGO 13-03-2004 12:21

do they do ritek cdrs? ive borrowed 007 everything or nothing DVD andGT4 prologue DVD but GT4 prologue is freezing at the start up. So still not sure as to what the problem is.

I thought i had cured it by tidying up the wiring and taping it down but still losing audio part way in to playing some games. Ive tried some original games and they all seem to be fine can this be because the chip is not being used when playing originals?

lufcfan 13-03-2004 12:42

Use Verbatim DataLifePLUS CD-R - they are by FAR the best :D

DJFury 14-03-2004 21:07

I know with DVD-R it's best to burn at slower speeds (1x or 2x.) Does this apply to burning CDR's as well?

Evo...The oct.8 mod does not nessesairly have the lowest numbers of wires. the only difference between this mod and any other non-swap mod is that it has a chip clip soldered to it. so basically it is like a Dms3 (i am not sure about bootable .exe from mem card but it can be upgraded via cd-r) with a clip soldered to it. Take a look as you can tell that it just has a clip soldered to it. http://www.octapus.net/

sorry..its not upgradable via cd-r. you need a programer to upgrade. i wud not recomend this mod as the best way is to solder all wires and not have a clip.

Interesting design. It’s not a clip as you described but more like the plug-mods of old, that has the option of being upgrades to some what of a solder mod with only 8 wires that need to me soldered to make it totally no swap. Or they have the other 2 setups, the 0 wire one which you will still have to swap just like the old plug-mods, or a 3 wire install which you only have to swap for PS2 games. But they claim that the 8 wire set up it no-swap. Once again not a bad idea, it just looks like hell, and I would be weary of all those extra components hanging off the side of the board, and adding extra gadgets to lessen the soldering difficulty just adds extra variables for something to become defective or work loose and what not.

This post really needs its own thread; we have gotten way off topic.

In fact here is the new thread.

Burn good quality CD-R at the highest speed you possibly can, and providing you have some good DVD-R, there is no reason why you can't burn at the faster speeds. Traxdata 4x is very good by all accounts...
