could i use xbconnect then to play my backups online?

Changing HDD's won't do anything. You need a new eeprom, from an xbox that will never go on xbox live.

xbconnect and any other non-official system link app will wotk fine, originals or backups.

do u think sometime in the future someone might be able to bypass the xbox live securty in order to play backups online? or is this something that cant be done?

ya dude, xbconnect and that gamespy system link thing(think its called xbtunnel) work fine on backups. i use it all the time:D

does anyone know where i can get a hold of an eeprom? none of the people i know have their xbox's modded so im pretty much stuck here.

ok i already got an eeprom and have already installed it to my xbox and all that good stuff. but how do i get back on xbox live with the same subscription code. cause when go trhough the process of setting up my xbox live account, it says that this code is already in use. do i have to buy another subscription code?

do an "account recovery". And I hope your friend isn't using the same eeprom, or nobody else, because ms will ban it if more than 1 person is using it at the same time.
