I'm not going to get it ONLY because with shipping included I'd only save 5 bucks, and I have the option of returning it to FRY's if something better comes along in 30 days.

Emprex vs Pioneer

No brainer here, but it's your choice. I believe an 8x Sony is supposed to come out this month as well.

Since you seem to be camping for the new stuff to be released, why not wait for dvd9 burners coming in a few months?

TylerDurden 01-12-2003 18:25

They are just different formats.

Just about all ps2's will read -R (with the exception of very old version with dying lasers). Newer v9 ps2's are now claiming to read both -R and +R.

EVOEvo 03-12-2003 13:56

ok im going to buy one of the 106's that bighap found :) and they burn at 4x :) if i used a 1x-4x in my 2x burner can i burn it at 2x or will it give me problems causes its a 4x dvd-r ? i was going to use ritek g04s cause i will have a 2x in one pc and the new 4x in the other.

TylerDurden 03-12-2003 13:56

Yeah pretty much, some can read better with scratched discs, while others can burn better with just about any disc out there. Thats what flashing is all about though.

ok just wanted to make sure b4 i buy it cause i would h8 to have to buy 4x for my 4x and 2x for my 2x i sure wished dvds were like cdrs were u can burn slower speed cd-rs at high speeds if that was the case i would buy 2x dvd-rs cause there cheaper and burn them at 4x :)

TylerDurden 03-12-2003 16:21

Actually they are like cdrs. Riteks, for example were originally rated a 1x then with certain flash upgrades on certain dvd burners we were able to burn them at 2x. Now I think they are rated at 1-2x for GO3 that is.

And not all cdrs will allow you to burn faster than posted on the label either.

The new Plextor 8x burner also claims to burn 4x +r media at 8x.

TylerDurden 03-12-2003 16:34

Any 4x media?
