then how the hell are they produced??? ^^
it's kinda strange for me bcause u can get dvd9 media but can't record them???
I don't think they just appear :)

Factories are able to produce dvd9s with very expensive machines. We can not with our burners or media we have. There is no true dvd9 media available. These 9.4gb discs you can buy are just a 4.7gb dvd on each side. A true dvd9 will store 9 gigs on one side.

Factory discs are PRESSED, not burnt.

Totally different process. Each layer is created separately, and then smooshed together inside a plastic casing to create the DVD you see before you.

As Bighap said, the 9GB+ DVD Media you see are just double-sided 4.7 GB discs. Gotta flip 'em over.

would u guys buy the new Lite-On DVD +- R/RW burner when it comes out??

Since Lite-On has a good rep with their CD-R/RW burners...i hopes it's good

just wondering how much are prices of the Pioneer DVD burners are in your country, In australia (were i live) they cost anywhere from $499 - $649

bighap 05-04-2003 12:45

If the Lite-On dvd burner lives up to its reputation that its has earned with cd burners, then yes it should be great. You can get a Pioneer A05 for about $280 here.

If you want all-in-one burners...

The Sony DRU500 (name differs depending on options and region) is good, but quality varies... sometimes your DRU500 will rock, but the other guy might get one that sucks. Sony has been like this for a while with their burners. Very mixed success/results.

LG makes a true all-in-one that will be available very soon. It will, however, be pricey (400 Euros). It will do -RAM as well as +/- R/RW.

Liteon's drive looks very promising. If I can restrain myself from ordering a Plextor with the NEC engine, I might get one when it's available.
