I looked at the V7 diagram. Doesnt look too bad as long as all the wires are marked for each point. Have you done one of these soldering mods?

bighap 24-09-2002 11:45

No I havn't. I bought a premoded system from lik-sang.com for $360. It came with a dvd remote and ps2 stand so its a pretty good deal if your not comfortable soldering your own chip. Several people on this board have done there own including charlie_ps2 . Id ask him about his experiences with moding ps2s.

Bighap - would you recommend the Neo4 chip???:D :D :D

bighap 24-09-2002 14:25

From what I've heard, its not too great of a chip. This is what charlie had to say about it:
NEO4.x Charlie's rating: 4/10
NEO4 was announced in July 2001 & delivered in December 2001. It has 44 wires! CD-R backups (other than EA games) require no swap - they boot directly. There are special swap procedures for EA CD-R & DVD-R games. Import originals do not boot with this mod.

All in all, for 44 wires of install heartache, this is a disappointing mod.

It's a crap mod, to many limitations for so many wires

Whats a good program utility to back up PS2 dvd games? I use CloneCD for my PSX games.

Prassi Primo DVD or Stomp Record Now Max. Both are basically the same programs.

I plan on getting a PS2 this weekend, I guess i will get one at Walmart. Since its a V7 which of the modchip is preferred? Messiah, apple, Magic ,etc. IS one really any better than the other? I just need one to boot my PSX copies, than PS2 cd-r copies and DVD-r copies.

BG 27-09-2002 16:19

Messiah will not work on a US V7...... Go ahead and get the Magic 2.... Its been out longer than the Apple....ALTHOUGH there are a few people on this forum with the Apple chip and they say it works great.....So there you have it.....

rubber2k1 27-09-2002 20:28

I thought i read that the MAgic2 had problems booting psx copies? Have you heard that? What online stores do U recommend? The only ones i know of are consolesource and modchipDOTcom. I would like something around the US/Canada.
thanks

The only problems I have heard of about the Magic 2 playing PSX backups are related to the Magic 2 V7 with a PAL console:

- There is a restriction on the Magic 2 v7 applicable to PAL PS2s whereby it can only play PS1 games for the same region as the PS2. So a PAL v7 can only play PAL PS1 games (30002/3/4 are interchangeable in this regard).

As far as a store around the US.... I wouldn't worry too much... Just find a store your comfortable with... Most stores ship to the US anyways......

Finally me a PS2. Got it from BestBuy since they'll thrown in a portable cd player with the purchase of a PS2. Its model - SCPH39001 with the serial staring at - FU.
