PLAYING DVD RIPS > 650 MB ON JAP PS2

I am pleased to report that this works and I'll explain below. In this case I used GADGET RACERS = 693MB.

1 ORIGACHIP (JAP)

a) Boot with DVD Region X (PAL)
b) When you get the region number choice, put in the DVD rip CD
c) Press START on the controller and off you go

This trick won't work if you use Memory Manager 32 as your boot disk. I haven't tried AR2 as I don't use it.

As a matter of interest this also worked when I booted the backup DVDRX-Jap behind original DVDRX-PAL and then the DVD rip CD behind that!


2 UTILITY DISK SWAP

a) Download a RAR of DVD Region X-Jap from a link on

b) You also need the SCV file but not the NFO (Don't download the NFO)

c) Use WINRAR to unpack the DVDRX-JAP. You'll think the PC has hung but it hasn't.

d) Use ASAPatcher (or Universal Patcher) on the BIN file to enable Utility Disk swap

e) Use CDRWin to burn the patched BIN file back to CD-R

f) Boot with Utility Disk and when the tray comes out swap in DVDRX-Jap made at step (e).

g) Then as per 1(b) and 1(c) above.

Didn't work for me :(

I don't have the ORIGACHIP method since I don't have that chip, I used the UTILITY DISK one...

1-Downloaded DVDRX-Jap
2-Patched it using ASA patcher with my UTILITY DISK as boot disk.
3-Booted with Utility Disk and when the tray came out swaped in DVDRX-Jap.
4-When I got the region number choice, put in the DVD rip CD/or CRASH BANDICOOT.
5-Pressed START on the controller, the SCREEN faded to BLACK, and then NOTHING happened...

Anything else required ? did I do anything wrong?
the DVDRX Jap works fine, I have the SFV file and it's (Good)...

Well, I'm embarrassed at that. It should have worked. If you go to this Forum link ####://digital-forums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=93 you'll see a Jap PS2 section; that's where all this started. It works for some and not for others it appears. Clearly the DVD Region X bit worked and it should have hauled in the rip you mentioned. Where are you based? I could send you a rip of Gadget Racers 693MB which didn't work before but does work now.

The only thing I can't be certain of is the compund effect of the OrigaChip on the process. The one thing I CAN be certain of is that OrigaChip is a solution just for Jap PS2 users.
