Can the sbox external mod chip play dvd-r's?

Hi guys first I wanna say thanks to everyone who posts here because I drop by and catch up on what's happening here a lot. Here's my question.
I wanna know if the sbox usb external modchip is capable of playing dvd'r's. I saw that NightStalker made a post saying that he could play dvd-r's with his sbox. Care to help me out NightStalker or anyone else? How exactly is a dvd rip different from a dvd-r? I know the dvd rips are put on mutiple cds but aren't something taken out? Like movies or something? Lastly, what's the deal with using memory card manger cd in place of a game shark to boot games? How does that work? I hope I didn't ask to many questions but I really need help.

LOad gameshark2 V1.9 into ps2, turn on modchip,select start game, swap gameshark2 with original dvd game, i use doa2, wait about 15 sec then select without codes let disc stop then use card method to open tray and swap dvd original with dvr backup and press O+R1. A usb mod is like having a neo2 installed using the 5 wire install. Because you dont use pins 3,5 and 6 you cannot use the EA boot sequence to open the tray by this i mean you cannot hold reset for 10 sec and release to open the tray so wwith dvr backups you will have to use the card method to open the tray for the final swap...Works for me.

I hope I'm not offending Nightstalker who has described a sound working method for those with SBOX -but

wouldn't this be the time to move away from an external modchip solution to one that more easily supports the things you want to do?

LOL it sure is charlie, i am waiting on the neostar modchip from www.easybuy2000.com. I think this will be a better chip than the neo4 because it will play import originals.

Thanks Nightstalker and Charlie. I'll let my friend know that he can play dvd-r backups after all. Of cousre when I get my playstation this xmas I'll try to go for a messiah chip. I've been comparing it with the neo 4 and it seems like 100% better. Just hope it comes out soon. Hey! can one you explain the diffrence between a dvd rip and a dvd-r? thanks guys

DVD rip is a selective take of files (the minimum necessary) from DVD to CD-R via a very compiclated process. Results in a downgraded game.

DVD-R is a 1:1 copy of the DVD in the same sense as CloneCD burns a 1:1 copy of a CD - that is the readable area.
