I have a 64bit system, the problem is that not part of the installation of directX after installing the game, I solved by changing the variables {src} in {app}, exactly: {app} \ Redist \ DirectX \ dxsetup.exe, and not {src} \ Redist \ DirectX \ dxsetup.exe
The variable {src} I do not understand what is ...

Bro 1) have you place the installer and 3 data archives in same directory.
2) have you set the disk numbers 1 2 3 in resources tab of bb GUI

I created an installation of Dead Rising 3 in my language, the installation is successful, the one thing I can not understand and compression configuration:

I removed all languages that my leaving, installed the game so far 23.5GB, compressing it with the BlackBox, the final installation of 18.5Gb is "too big"

Man the pic you gave is internal compressor and blackbox not always use the same compression method. In FIFA 14 repack I saw there is hidden process running they use precomp srep arc compression and in the archive they use to split the files in 50000 parts and at last it injects in one file

Ok ..in how to configure the parameter "Disk Slice Size MB?" For games large as befits configure: 1400, 2000, 4000 or more '?? or do not configure it, what changes ??
Finally, the screen archive compression, what it is, you have to configure it to get a better result in the compression or no !!

The picture shows the EXTERNAL compressions, means the installer gets name and position of an already compressed file. the Meth... states wich compressionmethod was used. for example 7ZIP, FreeArc or RAR.

the slices per disc= how many files are on one disk?
slice size= how big is one of this slices ?
on a 4,7 gb DVD you can use 3 slices with 1500mb, then this DVD is full (still 200 mb free, but just be safe). always stay under 2gb per slice. i remember innosetup having problem with over 2gb files.

what is a primary and secondary folder? used for internal compression? you and razor should fuse your projects, since he has a nice grid for more than two internal folders to compress.

Icons are the pictures of shortcuts, i think shortcut is a better name for it.

i really like the interface window. resolution as giving too, very nice.

the dropdown for changing the external compression method is a pain in the ass.
i have to switch "freearc" to "rar", to be able to fill in the next line with "Freearc". razor has this fiddly thing too.
i really dont know a better way to do it, but it sucks.

only three redist lines are too few. i read the thread and know the installer is to small. in far future maybe you can change this.

i dont know what this textbox @components does. i simply write in the lines i create. maybe give the lines numbers too (1,2,3...)
btw why can we have unlimited components and only three redist :P
and ask razor about removing lines from the grid, he fixxed the bug where you can only remove the last line.

i really would like a save function.

PS: Interface-> Title Image has a wrong resolution. program says "249x79", but it need "649x79". else it stretches the image to an ugly thing

You see in last Picture (Post #256), theres a Button called 'Disk' you have to define:

delete the space between your filenames.

sure it doesnt solve the problem, since you havent changed anything crucial.

just never have a space in your filename.

did anyone got the Disk feature working? if not i is bugged and may search in the wrong place, instead of the new CD. wait for y_theknight then.

i use the last version (BBv2 v1.1)

C:\Program Files (x86)\BlackBox v2 Designer
then go to script\output

there is a ini file called setup.ini

just open that and check, is your archive details are correct or not.

both are same bro, just 2 primary and secondary.

Guys I can not run the compression by configuring the "Disk Slice Size MB" greater than 2000MB crashes the progam !!!
You can check out our program and a problem, or is not possible to enter values greater than 2GB.

that is normal, since innosetup cant handle files bigger than 2gb with its own compression.

to handle larger files, you must use an external compression and bind these archives into your setup.
look page 1 till 3 for an compressor program made by razor. in blackboxv2 you switch to the "resources" page and click "add". a grid will appear, fill in your information regarding the newly created archive and then compile your setup.

I was trying out the installer but I always run into problems with CLS-srep.dll crashing?

Surprisingly this works on my Win 8.1 x64 tab but not on my main Win7 x64. :confused:

I also took a recent blackbox repack and got the same error :

PS: i have found that the size of the folder of the installation is the same as the installation which i make with another script

so it means that it finished installation !

but why it says that it's 50% and then crash !

it should say that it's 100%

note that, i have not added any redist files !!

freearc compatibility makes error like that. use the same arc.exe which was out with unarc.dll. and maintain the packjpgdll.dll and zlib1.dll(precomp cases), if you are using conversion arc packer, you should use the isdone files provided. you must be consistance when it comes to freearc.
and, srep errors could be compatibility errors, when you upgrade a file for compression, upgrade the file for decompression as well.

see that red box? in it is a button with no text. press it and the Output-Dir field will be filled automaticly with {appdata}\
saves time and errors

also, are you sure you want your bin files on four different dvds?
just leave the fields empty and everything is ok.

btw: precomp 0.42 causes crashes with 0.42 created archives, i just used 0.41 and it worked fine.
but i never used the loose unarc.dll y_theknight gave us

i have used the file "unarc.dll" and the game installed, but there's a small problem with records !!

the installation starts with 25% and successfully finished when it reaches 50% :D

Hi Guys,

First of all thank you for this tool it looks really great.

I just wanted to know if it is possible (or maybe in the future?) to be able to select different part that we want to install. Like if you want to install a game and a part of its Addons or DLC but not all of them, is it possible to have a selection ?

For example I think to make one for The Sims 3 collection so I would like to know if I can create an install where I'll be able to select what I exactly want to install.

Hi,

I finished all my archives but now I have 2 issues.
When I start setup.exe I have a setup.tmp error. It says that it can be in 'written' ?

The second one is when I press OK on that error the setup restart and then when I'm on the screen to select my components, I have only 4 selections shows but I configured for 12. Is there a limit for components we can use ?

Oh and if I add a music, Is there any way to turn it off by a button maybe ?

i face a strange problem when in the page (resources/archive)

when i fill the bin file name , and then click "add" it adds an empty row !
when i fill the empty row manually with details, i face later a problem in records while installing

today i try to add a row with already filled data (bin file name, output dir, disk no.) and then click add, so it adds an row filled with data, and not empty !

now records are works fine !

what was the problem ???

i even have tested to do the same with redist , but now i get an empty row !!! :( :(

also an option to auto open a support page after installation completed !

just click "add", then select the field you want to edit, then type text in it.
filling the boxes first and then pressin g add wont work!

at the field "primary folder" you may specify a folder containing game files.
the setup will compress them internaly. available options for internal compression algorythm is a box higher. it can do zip, lzma high/low etc.

blackbox also supports external archives. this can be compressed with a tool Razor12911 made. click here for the thread with download (http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=95288)

external files are added like in this screenshot.
dont set the DISK parameter, if you dont split your installer on disks!

I'm still trying to make an install with more than 4 components but it stays stuck at 4 as a limit to show. Does anyone know anything about that ? How could I do to have all the components I need to be able to select ?

also i cant set the game size to under 1gb, my game currently is 552 mb big (see purple box again, no connection)

also blackbox uses the last used images again. its nice for the logo, but not good for the rest. but if you make projects saveble this problem fixes itself.

i also dont understand the redist. what to fill in, do i use {src} or {app} or nothing to specify the folder? you should make a dropdown for it, like razor did in his IC. this way noone can make something wrong.

I notes small bug. I set the Game Size to 1000MB and installer shows Required Free Space as 1.98GB - it should be equal to Game Size. Please fix that!

And one more thing... Is ur installer support srep 3.93?

I have two issues about BlackBox v2 compiler program.

First of all, if i click anywhere on setup screen while installing(my compiled setup), it will show an error and installation will stop. For example, if i click on left-bottom corner of the setup screen where is there my logo, setup will say "Aboutform.png not found." or if i click on cancel button while installing it will say "Aboutexit.png not found."

But, these png files are exist in the BlackBox v2's folder.

My second question:

Slideshow section and video section don't work in/on my BlackBox v2. These sections/buttons are grayed out and i can't click on them.

How do i fix these issues?:confused:

what are you doing in arc.ini? since you dont know what you do, dont touch it

main icon: startgame.exe (used for shortcuts, this is in the main game folder, you can also say binaries/win32/startgame.exe this is how the structure works.

same with the second box, just to set more shortcuts

the compressionmethods are used for internal compression. how the setup.exe compresses the files you set in "primary directory".

primary and secondary directory are the pathes to the game you want to compress internaly. for example: C:\programs\mygamesucks

archive: press the add button to get a new row. fill in infos about external packed archives so the setup knows how to handle them.

archivename: archivesucks.arc (just the name, so it can find the file to unpack it)
outputdir: just press the "..." button
component: see components later down
disk: sets on which (if any) disk the file can be found
password: if any got set for an archive, put it in
precompversion: precomp version used to pack the files.

components: a component is a subtopic in the installer.
lets say you put a game, soundtrack and an editor in your setup.
then you set each of them a component, so the user can decide which he wants to install.
another example: you know setups filled with chrome toolbars and ask toolbars. they are a component too, which the user can install, but must not.

to get components, click the add button and type a name for the component.
the components are counted in order they were created. means the top one is 1, the last one (if we make three) is number 3.
this numbers must (if set) be put in the archive-tab, to make an archive part of this component.

Hi Adonix! I will explain you that you have asked. But, I don't know all of your questions' answers. Sorry for this situation and my ignorance.

Main Icon File: Actually, not main icon file! This text should be "Main Shortcut". You write the path of game's exe. But you must pay attention to a rule: Don't write full path of game's exe. For example:

Let us assume that there is a bin folder in the game's main folder. And the exe is in this bin folder. So, you write there this:"bin\xxx.exe" (xxx is exe name.)

Main Icon Name: Not important. You don't need to write anything.

Compression Method: In this section includes many kinds of compression methods.According to me, lzma2/ultra64 is the best one.

Disk Spanning: If you use internal compression and if you check this, BlackBox v2 program will compress and split your game into archives.(Setup-1.bin, Setup-2.bin etc...) But, if you use external compression, this section is not important.

For internal compression:
If you check this, you will have two choice:"Slides per disk" and "Disk Slice Size MB" Choose one of them.

Slides Per Disk: Means that how many archives splits BlackBox v2 program your game into. For example,

Slides Per Disk=2 ---> Setup-1.bin and Setup-2.bin

Disk Slice Size MB: Means that every bin files' size. For example:

Disk Slice Size=1000 MB ---> Setup-1.bin=1 gb Setup-2.bin=1 gb etc...

Primary Directory: You write there that your game's location. For example:

C:\Program Files (x86)\The Evil Within

But, after compilation, bin files won't include "The Evil Within" folder. Bin files will include files which are in "The Evil Within" folder.

I don't know other marked sections what are they for. Sorry for about that.

Then use razor compress with method

- Select Precomp : 0.43

NOTE : i tested this method with 5 game (with size 5gb, 10gb, 17 gb, 27gb, 3gb), i was repack and no error when i run setup, you need use : "Main(Compact.Mode-precomp.0.43).iss" to create setup

your decrompession will be in External archives (external compression-tab), more specificly "FreeARC".
other languages other than english are currently not supported

methods in the compressor are sorted from the top to bottom, going down increases data compression and going up decreases data compression.

But able to open the .bin using freearc 666

Well I think bb Designer have precomp 0.42 version..
so use 0.42 for compressor and designer..

Thank You, been fiddling around with different compressors and the BBV2 itself is 0.42 so when I managed to get it to start unpacking it would say incorrect precomp. Using the provided compressor and BBV2 works like a champ.

Hello. I have been repacking with your BlackBox Design for some weeks. The new version with Splash is awesome! But the Video and Slideshow are not available to use. But why?

Please fix it. I want to add a Video/Slideshow in my Repacks. Also, add an option to add "Required Space" below than 1000MB because there are too many games below 1000MB.

The Setup is not exactly like than that of BlackBox
BB setup exes size only 1-2 Mb
Fonts on buttons are Incorrect Should Be Cleartype
espesially on Browse button
some Resolution Issues.
frames Also need Work
the Mask File Corners must be more curved
The back of progress Bar
use latest Cls srep and Precomp
or you can simply get them in BB temp

why don't u create own script then?
i did what i can. if you know how to make this better, u can make another script and u can post it here.

original bb script didn't created with inno or pascal. its created with some another programming.
i took time to create like that using inno.
original bb doesn't use any image so it require only 1-2 Mb. but original bb wont work without Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.
mine used png bmp and lot more so need space.
i think my bb script is better than original bb script..

An updated User guide for using the Black box wizard have been included with this reply, hope that will help you solve and figure out the feature. Will add in more language support if needed. :)

Check out the Unarc.7z file provided on the first page, That might solve the issue with the error. wait for reply from the developer if that doesn't works.

RAR5 Support is not yet implemented, I have been asking for that since it came up. Well no need to worry any way the compression format here are much much better than RAR so you wont have to worry about it at all, the script will be updated soon and since the developers are not magicians with wand it will take some time. :)

Until the source comes up there is a limit problem with games below 1 Gb or less. wait until Last knight comes up with the solution there is a slight change required in the source fields to make that right. Thank you for pointing it out.

And for using the German translations, Unless we have direct access to the code you can try replacing the default.isl file with the German.isl file. (Make sure to rename the German.isl file into default.isl) This is just a theory and i have not tried this yet so do at your own risk. :D Make sure to keep a back up of the default.isl file.
P.S :I'm attaching the 'German' Default.isl in case you need. :D

The user can always use the Browse Button to change the path of extraction,
If you want to change the default path which is implemented you wil have to manually edit the .iss file (Which i was not able to find in the folder.) :rolleyes:

This session is what you need to find and change. You can do it manually or wait until the developer comes up with the possible solution to solve this. and if you are lucky enough u will find the file needed to change this. and {pf} is the default program files dir. :)
P.S : Io in realtà non credo che gli utenti hanno ancora un controllo diretto sul percorso predefinito di estrazione, attendere maggiori dettagli da parte dello sviluppatore.

Hi, i changed the text in Default.isl to the text from German.isl.

After clicking compile, i get no error, but i get no Setup.exe too :eek:

Is there a log file? So i can find the error message and te reason why there is no Setup.exe after changing from english to german?

Figured it out, It's the code session, We have to add in the lines on the main Source, since that's where the issue is..

Name: "english"; MessagesFile: "compiler:Default.isl"
Name: "german"; MessagesFile: "compiler:Languages\German.isl"

Since in the GUI of BB the Default.isl is called with name English and i think during compiling the compiler was not able to find the string LanguageName=English and instead found LanguageName=Deutsch which may have resulted in a Compiler termination at the end..
Try keeping the LanguageName=English in the 'German' default.isl keeping the other lines untouched, just change the "LanguageName from Deutsch to English"..
Try experimenting until some thing comes up. And there valuable observations of others will help the developer to actually make the software better with more features. :)

When you click on the logo (Blackbox for example) screen appears ripper

Tried it and Yeah, got the same Error, Compiler exists with an Error at the end right after "Phrasing Language packages" Options. And it seems like will have to wait until our Knight comes up with a solution to change the languages. Sorry about that. :( And by the time you can give a try to the other installer makers in the forum thread which offers much flexible
options in terms of code access. :)

I`ve tried to edit the default.isl und changed the next button to the german translation. No error, but no effect too.

After that i edited the english.isl in Languages folder in the same way -> no effect.

Which file does the blackbox v2 use for getting the words in installer?

The language options was an untouched area it seems, well the program will be updated with the suggestions, By then try out the other Installer Creators on the thread too. will help to get more flexible options with that.

I doubt BlackBox v2 supports MSC compression or Compressor v2 or better,

My suggestion is that you use Compressor v1.2.0 from this post.

easiest way to know if game requires reg keys is to install game, copy the installed files elsewhere, uninstall game then try running the exe from the files you copied, if game doesn't start, then starting thinking of reg keys.

just look into in, there is a script somewhere but it is clustered.
you can just press ctrl f to find #define or something that was in the script like ExtractTemporaryFile.
after doing that, just mix it up to complete the script. I evaluated compiler when it was running, I suspended the process then investigated further, same thing is possible with setup.exe that are graphic protected with b2p.dll like CIU v2 but I don't know how to do it because I am not a hacker.

atlast i was succesfull making my own repack but i got one error all the time whenever i run the setup.exe it runs well but in the middle of installation of a game or program whenever i click on my logo the installation got stuck at XX.X%(e.g.-34.9%) and thus the installer cant continue and i have to close it from the task manager...please fix this ...and please update this blackbox installer setup so that we can use slideshows and videos and as well as we can attach our links to the installer.....please reply

I forgot about that. Either way, I could make it work. It is very simple.
Make two functions name them GetAppExec and GetAppDir.
The result in GetAppExec must be ExpandConstant ('{#AppExec}');
The result in GetAppDir must be
ExtractFileDir(ExpandConstant ('{#AppExec}'));
then under Icon section.
the filename must be {code:GetAppExec}
and WorkingDir must be {code:GetAppDir}
Simple as that.

Hi. a newbie here and I need some help.

firstly love the designer app I made a simple repack and it worked.

now I want to do something more complex that is repack a modded game like mass effect.

I tweaked the game config files in the userdocs folder and I want to add it to the repack and have the installer extract these files in the userdocs folder but I cant figure it out

1. Yes, last time I checked I helped y_thelastknight add the feature.
Just head over to Resources > Component, add the names of the games or components.
Then head to Resources > Archive, make use of component spinbox (value editor)
The value you put under component is equal to the component index you added under components section
If you added NFSMW and NFSHP under components as examples and you have 2 archives (first archive is NFSMW and so on), for the first archive the value for component must be 1 and the second one must be 2.

2. Limit is 3 because of the space on the GUI, couldn't fit more than 3.
And no, you can't use additional redist as components.

3. For internal compression, if input is more than 2GB, you have to tick disk spanning to enable automatic splits of the input. Though the disk slice size cannot be more than 2GB. So you can have 8GB input but it must be splitted into chunks smaller than 2GB.

4. It's an internal limitation of Delphi probably, but it was fixed in later delphi and Inno still uses older simple types for this situation. (I think)
For example, size is an integer, and integer is a simple type, it has its own limitations, another simple type can be Cardinal, Int64 ...
Integer has a limitation of the maximum value being no more than 2147483647 which is 2GB - 1 byte.
Cardinal have limit of 4294967295 which is 4GB - 1 byte
and so on, so it's either you use Freearc to make one big file or just stick to disk spanning.
