TippeX yes, it's based on steam ver because I have such one, but I believe it'll be working also with retail ver (I'll got it soon, then add support for custom languages). Now it is, lets say, beta testing ;)

selvadario with only FreeArc - not. I'm trying with Prec+Srep, later maybe with repacking *.bsa

There's a retail version which comes on DVD and Steam is only used for activation, so conversions are legit according to this forum's rules.
I wonder if it's possible to make a 1 DVD5 conversion BTW...

I'm not entirely sure what fracicone is trying to say either :) but I think he says that the game is installed from DVD, thus it can only backed up just like any other game based on physical media, and it's another story that the game (also) needs to be activated via Steam. That is, Steam backup won't work with it as it's not downloaded via Steam, only activated.

here is working inno script for all. Tested on Windows XP and Win 7 32 bit.

http://www.multiupload.com/C2Q10NGLM8

1. Install game.
2. Modify inno script according to your installation path. Also modify inno script for pictures you want to use and .ico file etc.
3. Compile script.
4. There you go.

BAMsE

GODZYLLA and loveco2001 you really don't know what you're saying ;) This value is added automaticaly when running launcher first time and pressing install. Moreover during this 'installation' launcher creates ini files in '{userdocs}\My games\Skyrim'. When adding this reg value manually or even by Inno Setup you tell the launcher that Skyrim is already installed and it not creates ANY ini file. In this case, without ini files, you'll not be able to run the game.
If you stubbornly want to add it during installation, you must also have a copy of ini files on DVD and force setup to copy them to right place. In this case there will be the risk that your ini files (placed on DVD during conversion) will not match the PC where you installed Skyrim in feature.

well seems I missed "'{userdocs}\My games\Skyrim'. But if u start game with "TESV.exe" from installation folder once and then exit. "TESV.exe" automatically creates required .ini and other files at '{userdocs}\My games\Skyrim'. And then launch game from shortcut from desktop or else, launcher automatically detects your pc and configure settings. Just Click "Play" to have fun. !!!

when you extract the tesv_2xdvd5.7z file, in the dvd1 folder open the setup.ini. > SaveGameFolder={userdocs}\My games\Skyrim

That says where the savegames go. but neither bamse nor peters include the savegame folder, which is NOT in the game folder.

zyo it makes no sense, because there is another conversion by peterf1999 and it fills DVD5 to the brim:

Even if I removed the duplicated textures by repacking bsa it would't fit DVD5 again

I manage to pack all the files in 2DVD5 without m0 compression but the installer seem to stuck at dvd2 installation

zyo you probably messed up with cab files. Please edit setup.ini and set correct disc number for each cab file you've created. Also remember to set destination path for files from new cabs

zyo
10-02-2012, 13:31
Would you be able to have a look? There are only 4 additional files in the Data folder so I rearranged them to fit 2XDVD5, the structure remains the same.

Problem is for some reason the installation goes fine for 2mins then stuck halfway through a large file.

Edit: its still 2 cab files with the same structure

11-02-2012, 07:48
zyo you mean you still have data1.cab on 1st, and data2.cab + data3.cab on 2nd DVD? If yes, try to prepare cabs once again.

mhcvel I don't know what type of archive is your bin file. This script supports freearc, rar and zip archives. if this bin is one of them, you may use yener90's Custom Installer. Archives to unpack are listed in [ExtractSettings] section of setup.ini

yeap thats correct, only contents of data1.cab and data2.cab has been rearranged (but they still have all the files under Data folder) with m0 compression.

I have tried compressing them a couple of times but the installer still gets stuck. gonna try again later today.

BAMsE
12-02-2012, 01:29
zyo did you use another than -mx -ld800m method? I've noticed this script (or maybe freearc?) doesn't like huge files/lot-of-files arhives packed with some method (unfortunately i don't remember which one was that). Try another "safe" compression, i.e. -m0 or maybe prepare more smaller cabs and test.

zyo
13-02-2012, 23:05
Yeap Im sure it has something to do with the size of the cab files. I have used -m0 on both cab files and data2 alway stuck at the end of installation process.

I have no idea what is wrong  If I were you I'd try to repack data2.cab and data3.cab to i.e. 4 smaller ones or even try to compress texture packs into separate cabs. If you prepare more cabs remember to edit setup.ini and list them.

zyo
24-02-2012, 12:47
I repacked the files into 7 smaller cabs and it still hangs on disc 2

This install is quite buggy tbh...if there is anyway to do an innosetup that will be much better.

pakrat2k2
24-02-2012, 14:14
peterf did an inno conversion as well but it uses inno/freearc/precomp/srep to all fit on 1 dvd5 just look down a few posts & you'll find it.

zyo
24-02-2012, 14:15
I dont think with high res pack it will fit 1DVD5 anymore (they are 2GB in size alone)

BAMsE
24-02-2012, 15:35
OK. Maybe give some extra info:
- it gives you some error message or it just stops and won't go further?
- it's happening always at the same position? always the same files are unpacked?
- is it unpacking whole archive (and stucks on proceeding to the next one) or only part of it?

zyo
24-02-2012, 22:06
always the same position about 95% of the installation
there is no error message, whole thing just stopped, Im installing it from a SSD mounted with daemontools for testing and the harddrive is not active at that point.
I wouldnt know which archive it stopped at unfortunately likely to be middle of a large file write...

another thing is once it stopped I cant cancel the installation anymore it doesnt freeze but doesnt roll back either.

BAMsE
25-02-2012, 00:57
When it stops try [ALT] + [TAB] (or [ALT] + [CTRL] + [DEL] then run tasks manger) to return to desktop. Go to installation folder and compare its files with cab archives. You'd know which file/archive makes problem. Another advice is to disable data3.cab in setup.ini by typing ";" in front of its line and test.

Actually, wrong, wrong, wrong. I checked that myself.

See... the thing is, that EVERY Steam-activated game CAN be entirely downloaded off Steam with skipping the use of the DVD altogether. What matters is the key. Always.

I had an issue with FEAR 2 when I bought it. The second DVD wouldn't get read by the drive. So what I did was just activate the key and let Steam download the game in whole instead of just updating.

Of course steam backup feature would work on Skyrim. Either way, it's always installed to SteamApps -- if it's a Steam-activated game (which it is), it MUST be installed to SteamApps.

In short, using the retail DVD is only a shortcut so that Steam doesn't have to download the entire game -- it will only update it. But for reinstalling, you can either use a retail DVD, a Steam backup or just redownload the game via Steam.
