3 solutions in descending order of complexity - but what is present modchip and which Jap model?

1) Change modchip to OrigaChip v1.11 or later ( ####:/www.origachip.com and ####://www.madeiragames.com ). It plays import originals.

2) Buy Pioneer DVR A03 and obtain PrimoDVD software. Burn 1:1 copies. If you boot with the Utility Disk, chances are you can boot with a larger origibal DVD game instead of the Utility Disk and then swap in the backup made with PrimoDVD.

3) Study on ####://www.ps2ownz.com the various tutorials on DVD ripping and be prepared to sweat as you move stuff off DVD, compress videos, remove videos, take out DVD checks and somehow fit it back into less than 650MB (for the Utility Disk to boot).

Option (1) will pay off and you'll eventually move to option 2 I'm sure. Option 3 is somewhat of a mug's game in my unimportant opinion. A lot of people choose option (3); a few succeed at the cost of some game functionality (like removing movies from Twisted Metal Black removes prizes with secrets); others pester the Forum for obscure problems!

JAP PS2s? Tell me about them!

Thanks Cherlie
My JAP Ps2 version is 15000
I got a DVD drive and a CD-Burner
but not preapre to buy a DVD-R because is too expensive :<

(PS) I am looking for a Tutorial (To make a backup of my original UK-PAL GTA3 to play on a JAPAN NTSC PS2). I have looked on other tutorial for the GTA3 (US-NTSC) version but I found out that the size of UK-PAL and US-NTSC GTA3 is very big different and also the code, reindex on the Hex is different too, I have also looked at Zedaan's GTA3 Tutorial and found it complicated (SORRY). If there is no tutorial yet can anyone or anyone preapre to write one? Sorry i am newbie on ripping and tried very hard :(. If anyone can make one that will be great help not only to me but to others us well :)

So put an OrigaChip into your PS2. That will solve the problem like it did for me. I can now play UK-PAL original DVDs.

DVD ripping is so time consuming and error prone. One of our Premium Members, became a de facto ripping expert - he ripped many games and then gave up by getting a DVR. It's really too much trial and error/hard work.

####://www.madeiragames.com

They supply and install the chip. It's 15 wires so it take a couple of hours. The chip costs c.£45 and with fitting and deliver/collection the whole thing runs to something like £115.

That investment immediately doubles the reach of your PS2. End of story.

I recommend you wait a few days for the v2.5 chip (see FAQ link above). Origa are usually on time with their delivery predictions.

I got Madeira Games to do it for me - costs rather more to do it this way though. If you can solder with 1mm tip and wire, then you ought to be OK. But it obviously isn't as easy as an 8 wire mod.

Your choice. JAP Messiah a long way off - the PAL version isn't out yet. OrigaChip released when they say.

Hi Jumpstart - nice to hear from you.

I kept the old modchip.com chip (which uses the Utility Disk and auto-ejects the tray); the OrigaChip was installed on top of the old chip.

The OrigaChip/modchip.com combo is brilliant. It guarantees that Univesal Patcher patched games will play and not be rejected by the Origachip.

I can play import originals (US & PAL), no swap. PS2 backups play with a swap. I use PAL DVD Region X as the simple boot method. The version of OrigaChip I've got doesn't do DVD-Rs - but the modchip.com device does. Just boot with a DVD original of larger TOC than the DVD-R, let the tray come out and put the DVD-R in.

In short, brilliant.

(will the mod affects the DVDR??)

hope i can manage to buy one for my PS2... (im in Asia )

Jumpstart:

####://www.origachip.com has a distribution agent in Asia. Find it on the web site.

Mine is the 8 wire mod (modchip.com) sits alongside the OrigaChip. If you have this automatic disk eject, I guess it will work. The only thing I can gurantee is that DVD-R backups work with the 8 wire modchip.com original(beta) chip. In any case, by the time you order with OrigaChip v2.5 you won't need to retain the old modchip.

Anyway, you should find someone with a DVD-R of a game and try it on your 15000, using a DVD original with a larger TOC as bott disk. Then you'll know. The Pioneer A03 is a sound investment now given that all future games are mostly on DVD.
