if its microsoft cab files, then winrar can do the job
if its installshield then you'll have to use the installshield tools

also, its a bad idea to integrate the crack, because then you'll have no backup of the original exe, which can (and usually does) cause problems when installing patches

read the faq, it'll explain things in more detail, also, i fixed the typo in the thread title :)

There are easier ways all around the forum how to add or substitute a file inside a cabs, but why bother with a crack if they can simply insert the DVD on the drive, start the game and play?

its not that easy, but looking in the cd2dvd conversions section of the forum
should give you some ideas (there's no real 'generic' way to do it, most involves some trial and error)

For how to edit IS cab files i suggest starting learning from these

Tutorials: Useful tools, freeware programs, scripts etc (http://www.cd-2-dvd.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1095&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=&sid=c74c616b03b4aef869756559f9ca83a5)

ISCab Examples (http://helpnet.acresso.com/robo/projects/installshield12helplib/ISCabExamples.htm) (Add and replace files part)

Best its to extract original exe and rename it filename.exe.bak

Then doing IScab add and replace by replacing original exe with cracked and adding filename.exe.bak as new file into cabs so its installed to game install folder also.

example for add and replace list.txt, red text is added after you have made list.txt and cleaned it to only include gamename.exe
note: remember to add correct File[Number] when adding new file, so check what its last file under [SOMETHING] before cleaning it up, if its like File100= then new file is File101= when adding it

[ISCAB Info]
Product=ISCAB
Version=2.0

[SOMETHING]
File6="gamename.exe" , "gamename.exe"
File8="gamename.exe.bak" , "gamename.exe.bak"Here is also similar question answered Jericho; replace files in installation package (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=85136)

EDIT: I consider it bad choice to make this for games which get lot of updates but good for old games which don't get updates

Good example in my use is Shivering Isles backup which has all DLC + couple mods + preupdated and crack included in cabs.

full list.txt from my Shivering Isles backup

Microsoft data#.cab files are opened with cabarc; installshield data1.cab files are opened with i5comp/i6comp and installshield 12 data1.cab are opened with i6comp modifying 8th byte (or so) from 02 to 01.

@Typpex, have been modifying installations for years, and never thought to sell that games, or even release on p2p. It is so usefull sometimes, even more when original releases are buggy. (Thats why installations are modified)
