Hi Guys,
I'm also getting this problem, it loads a few screens with the storyline text etc then just hangs. Loading circle stops moving, music can still be heard, have to force quit out of it. The game is brand new just out of box, had a small issue with online activation so manually activated it in the end; any other ideas how to fix this?? Only thing I can think of is the graphics card but its never had probs with other games - its a pretty crap Intel Media Accelerator x3100, and while I thought of getting decent RAM/Processor from Dell there were no upgrade options for the graphics card so foolishly went ahead with the purchase a few weeks ago....
Any ideas????

Are you sure your video card is officially supported?

Seems to be a sound problem, some people that have this problem solve it with:
"for me the loading-30-mins-bug has to do with my soundcard (audigy 2 zs)!
if i disable it via device manager the game load withtin 30 seconds!"
I try it but nothing...
This is for people that have audigy card
Try it and write what happen plz!

So its not a copy/protection problem but its a configuration problem! Right???

there is a patch v1.01 that solves problems with a specific sound card among other things.
It may help.
the loading-30-mins-bug
I had this problem on my sons WinXP PC, I changed the compatability mode to Win98 and it fixed the long loading problem.

That's a good one, Grumpy. For playing a game designed for XP/Vista you must put it in Win98 compatibility mode. Ubisoft is priceless. Didn't laughed so munci since they released a Reloaded crack for the customers who bought Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (direct2drive edition). The patch in question was 1.03. Priceless. The quality of games and tech support it's skyrocketing in the wrong direction....

LOL, yes I tried many things to fix the slow loading on my sons machine, and I mean many things, then as a last resort (and I honestly didnt expect it to work) I changed the compatability setting and like magic the game now loads a hell of a lot faster. :)

Also try lowering the sound acceleration (Windows XP: Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Volume tab, Speaker settings frame, Advanced, Performance tab, Hardware acceleration) and/or disabling EAX support and/or up-/downgrading your EAX driver.

If you're using the 3GB Ram-Switch for WindowsXP/32bit - deactivate it!
I've got rid of freezes and bluescreens by removing the / 3B/ USERVA=2990 value from the boot.ini.
Btw...Not using any kind of crack for the game.

Thx to Grumpy i solved the prob guys! For all that have this problem turn compatibility mode to windows 98/me farcry 2.exe and start the game from this file.
If you have some sound problem during game (sound stuttering like half life 2) go in sounds device manager in the control pannel and low the hardware accelleration bar to minimum (in the advanced option)
Now work great!
p.s. apply the latest patch to game
THX to Grumpy !!!!;);):D:D
hey, i have the same problem as lucas!
as ive read it looks like the solution is to change the compatibility, but how would i go about dong that?

Right Click the desktop shortcut for Farcry 2, Choose Properties from the menu.
Once the Properties screen opens, choose the Compatability tab.
Tick the Box for the compatability Mode and choose 'Windows 98/Windows Me'.
Then click Apply and Ok.
All done. ;)

Ok, i am going to sum up everything, the game works when my sound card is disabled,
AKA the Creative audigy SB2 (WDM). Now i try to alt tab out the game, i enable the card, go back to the game, and no sound. Wtf? this is starting to get on my nerves, i had to restart my computer atleast 10 times because creative doesnt like me.
Help?! btw i had the loading screen thinggy, but that was fixed when i disabled my card. And one thing lead to another...
PS, i tried reinstalling the game, it reinstalled and everything, until i got to the updating, which it downloaded but then prompted me to be on an admin acount (which i am), how does any of this make sense?

I'm not saying I found the solution but this worked for me as I too had the same problem with it hanging on the loading screen. I went into the Nvidia Control Panel then clicked on Change flat panel scaling in the left hand column to display the options in it and changed the setting
2.When using a resolution lower than my display's native resolution...
0 Use Nvidia scaling
0 Use Nvidia scaling with fixed-aspect ratio
0 Use my display's built-in scaling
0 Do not scale
Default I think is "Use my display's built-in scaling"
So I changed it to "Use Nvidia Scaling"
Don't know why but it loads up with no problems anymore. Give it a try and let us know how you went. I have an Audigy 2 card as well and have not updated any drivers for it or lowered the settings for it and it sounds great. I don't think it is a sound card issue. Mine works fine.

Ok, thats nice to know, i will try that eventually after i get my sound card running. Until then WTF.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After calling the tech support guys 2 times, i was able to find my problem was my audigy card. I restarted comp, went into bios, switched to onboard sound, thus resulting in absolutely no sound whatsoever. I looked for a driver for my onboard card only to relize that my internet was out (no idea how this happened and still no idead). Upon restarting and going into bios to check and make sure i didnt do anything to the lan settings, I try to go back in Which windows was not comming up at all, so i just put my settings to default, and went back to regular window and regular sound card. I uninstalled the game and going to wait for another patch. I really hope they fix the audigy bug...
Farcry 2 for me showed the startup screen, then opened windowed then shut down. For 2 days i was going mental, no answers anywhere. Well the ubisoft guy email back said said to delete a file called "Gamer Profile" located in My documents>My Games>farcry2 - I deleted it and it now works, Im guna post this answer everywhere I looked so that the next person who gets as royally angry as i did knows how to fix it (hopefully it works for everyone!), Im guna enjoy the game now lol

I didnt see these posts way back, but if your still around and have problems still, your sound card driver was WDM which is microsofts driver and not driver from creative.

I figured out why does the 98/ME compatibility mode help... Far Cry 2 bugs with dual core, and 98/me mode turns off 1 core... well, I can't run farcry 2 with just one core, it's slow as hell... I already tried turning on both cores after loading, but it freezes... any1 know how to fix that?

I still have the WDM right next to the device and i got the drivers from creative. So if you have a better idea, please share.

i had the problem with the loading screen freezing and all
i fixed it by turning off the music in the game,
and in the network options i turned off 'scan free ports' and 'detect public address'
i have no idea what they do but it seemed to work.
maybe give that a shot.

it seems that this game has a lot of issues. im having this problem as well. :(
As weird as it may sound, it is the certain sound cards (not only audigy i´m afraid), funny how that works, sound affects video.
Aniway, creative (audigy, live, pro, xfi) have lunched a new driver for their cards to fix this issue, so i would suggest for creative sound card owners to download it.
No idea about the rest, sorry.
