View Full Version : Adobe Reader 9 on Vista x64 won't associate with PDF's!!
Just installed Adobe Reader 9 on my x64 Vista Ultimate and it hasn't associated itself with PDF files?
Even if I click on the PDF or right click on the PDF file and use 'Open With...' and navigate to the AcroRd32.exe file it still doesn't appear in the list of programs I can use to open a PDF file??
WTF!!

Perhaps, the firewall/antivirus/etc. software is actively resisting changes to the registry that would associate the software with the file extension. (I've had similar problems with ZoneAlarm Pro...)
perhaps you need to run it as adminstator first time so it sets up its associations
Nope, not Zone Alarm or Avast as I disabled them and re-installed!
Also ran installer as Admin but still not associated with PDF files and Adobe Reader, it's not even listed in the program list for 'Open With...'??
Solved!
Even though I had a registry key pointing to adobe reader 8 instead of 9, adobe reader 9 still refuses to associate itself with PDF files, so I installed adobe reader 8.1.2 and that now works under Vista x64!
yeah i´ve had that issue to barryb, i was going to say 8.2 is the answer, no idea why though o.O and it has nothing to do with you upgrading to 9. as i installed 9 on a fresh install of vista.
