COD4 fixed image

Loving COD4 so far as other people are, but am concerned like all fair users of the possible damage to the dvd that will come from prolonged use.

I have tried the fixed exe for v1.4 but my game crashes. Fair enough.

Has anybody seen a fixed image for COD4 around? It would probably solve my problem. If not, then I will attempt to take even better care of my DVD.

You could try making your own mini/maxi image as per the FAQ (http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=73906)!

Same as for BF2142: fixed image is not possible, sorry.
If you want to preserve your original make a full image as described in the PC Games-FAQ.

actually, there is, the disk has to be spun around, on some crap drives (esp ones that are warped / have dirt on the tray etc), damage can happen when the disk is spun up, leading to scratches, ususally the error correction hardware on the drives can rectify this 'damaged data'.. sometimes it doesnt though...

the worst time for damage is the spin up cycle.. but really, if you have dirt on the cd/dvd tray, then you should clean it.. the onus is on the owner to ensure the drive is actually 'operational'...

its worth pointing out though that such damage is very very rare...
its happened on some xboxes though ;)...

eagle13 you only need the disk for single player and since you can finish single player in 1 day its no big deal in using the original disk. for multiplayer u dont need the disk.
bf2142 on the other hand is really annyoing. i dont understand why u need a cd check protection in an online game where u need to have a valid key anyway.
checking the cd key during log on is protection enough imo.
