I noticed that none of the mirrors appear to host the No-CD patches for Hexen 2 and its mission pack (http://m0010.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_hexen_2.shtml). Can they still be re-upped anytime soon? Thank you.

Oh and before people get the wrong idea, I do legitimately own both titles.

Appears they don't have the cracks for Portal of Praevus though. And googling for them found no other locations. :(

If you look closely, those (already deleted) cracks were done by me about 6 years ago. ;) So, even if I don't have the crack packages, I still have the cracked EXE's.

Good Stuff then I was sort of right HaHa...sorted then me thinks...Was just thinking what would you have said if someone would have told you 6 years later your work would be needed again to save a misrable soul...lmao

You see, I bother neither with original or backed up CD's; I make rips of my games: large RAR archives that need to be uncompressed only, no installation needed. And since DVD's are physically so large but are (relatively) so slow and can contain so little data, they have been archived to a very large hard disk instead. With a USB hard disk rack, this means about half a minute to access ANY game in my collection (from Test Drive in 1987 to STALKER in 2007), whenever I like. How about that for organizing? ;)

I'll no were to come for those outdated cracks then...Me is off on EBAY to see what the oldest game is...My most favourite game pack is DOOM 95.....I love that game & all its addons..Just a shame they spoilt it with the new version..
You lot stay cool & enjoy playing your backups now...:)

Cheers for the links, Joe! :) Did these EXEs originally come with any NFOs btw, as I assume is standard with no-CDs?
And yeah, I currently do a similar thing to you - backing up tons of (old) games in RARs and putting them together as neatly as possible. Don't have access to a USB HD atm though, so it's backing-up-to-DVDs for moi! The limited space on those is mainly why I choose not to bother with more modern games. I'm more of a retro person anyways!

Yeah, standard no-CD patches, just replace the original EXE's (after having backed them up!) with those in the crack package. No .nfo files because I never feel like writing any. ;)
........ they have been archived to a very large hard disk instead.
What happens if that harddrive fails? :)

Do you bother to compress the sounds into mp3 and all that as well? or do you just pack them into rars?

@rlsuth: Ts-ts-ts, I have two hard disks (one at home, another at my work place). ;) Remember: one backup is no backup at all!
@caki: MP3/UHA and other tricks are for packaging warez releases to as small sizes as possible - and, as a side effect, that makes the unpacking VERY long. For me, size doesn't matter (khm :D) but unpacking time does so, no, I don't do extra compression steps.
For me, size doesn't matter (khm ) but unpacking time does
yes this is the right attitude dude ;) since hdds getting cheaper all day...
doing it the same way but mostly with(out)minimal compression, just a backup copy-in-a-rar. this speeds up the entire process a lot.
time is money :D
