playing backup guides

I'm new to the PSP scene, so I was wondering if there was a guide or tutorial on playing backups for newbies like me. :-)
Could you point me in the right direction please?

wat firmware version do u have? if 1.5 you are set otherwise u will need to get a downgrader for ur version
