I have a .mpg file which is about 8gig and i need to be able to back it up on a single disc.

I usually use DVD shrink but it does not take .mpg and can not mount it to drive for the same reason.

Is there any program i can use to shrink the .mpg file to the right sizes so i may copy it to a dvd?

Why you don't use a double-layer dvd (8,5 GB) ?

DVD is MPEG-2, and what you have is most probably MPEG-1. Try to find an encoder/transcoder software that accepts MPEG-1 both as input and output.

The file is in MPEG-2 format. But as the file is too big it will not fit on normal disc. Is there any way to shrink or convert it to a format that will let me shrink it eg .iso etc as who i am sending the DVD to has not got the capabilities to use a dual layered disc.

Nero VisionExpress allows you to encode or shrink pretty anything onto a DVD (in DVD format).
