Hello everyone! I have been browsing this forum for a while and just now decided to make my first post! I was reading the thread on BF2142 no cd/dvd work arounds, and I found that the Virtual CD v. 8 way worked for me (nothing else did). Anyways I built a new computer and during the process broke my bf2142 disc. It wouldn't have been a prob since I had a full image of it on Virtual cd v.8 but since I was building a new rig I would have to re-install. Also during this time the 1.2 patch came out.

Well I finally built my new rig (C2D 2 gig ram and 8800gts!!!) and bought a new copy of BF2142. But when I try the same method of no dvd play I get the "no cd in drive" error. I used the settings outlined by some of the members (which had worked in the past). What can I do now? I want to play without my DVD. Right now I have to play with it :( . Thanks for reading my long post!

and why don't you just use a cracked exe for playing without disc? I'd never go a complicated way like using an extra program for only one game... at least daemontools should play it, and if a cracked exe exists - why mess around with virtualcd...

[edit] thought a second about it - maybe you want to play online without a disc in the drive and this doesnt work with a cracked exe... ?

I only play online. When it use to work I had daemon tools installed along with the virtual cd. Should that be installed as well?

Ok, I've searched the whole day for an answer and finally I've found one that works for me.

When I bought the game, I made an image with Blindwite. On Win XP x64 I was able to play without problems with Daemon Tools and my original image. I changed back to x32 (too many problems) and the game stopped working, I got the "insert the correct disc" message. Nothing seemed to work, no emulation software or virtual drives, no anti-blacklisting, nothing at all.

You need to have an image that works, from the original DVD or something similar... as close to the original DVD as you can get. The only reason I'm doing this is because I just don't want to scratch my original and also because I am too lazy to go finding the original disc every time i'm up for a few rounds.

But there's one thing that works:

1.- Install the game from your image, from Daemon Tools. Update the game to the latest version.

2.- Disable your "real" DVD drive. Yes, just leave the virtual drive created by Daemon Tools.

3.- Reboot your computer.

4.- Now you should only have 1 DVD-drive, the one created by Daemon Tools.

5.- Mount your image in Daemon Tools.

6.- Play! (It works now).

So yes, there's a way to play without the original DVD in the drive, and that's just rebooting your PC with the real DVD drive disabled. It will also work if you physically disconnect the DVD drive before booting, but that's annoying, just disable it on the system/hardware menu, reboot, and off you go.

It might work without rebooting, just by disabling it. Sometimes it does, I've just tested it. That's far less annoying than having to reboot every time you want to play.

It doesn't work when I enable the DVD drive back, It has to be kept disabled at all times when you want to play BF2142.

I hope there's another workaround for this at some point, such as mini-images or something like that, there were some for BF2, but then again, there was a much bigger community for that game than for BF2142.

Have fun and I hope I've solved someone's problems. :)
