Hey everyone, I wanted to ask your advice on something. I was watching an anime (AVI) on my PS2 the other day through the SMS Media Player and left it paused for about an hour. All of a sudden, it shut down completly (odd) and come to find out when I tried a few days later, I can't turn it back on. I figured it was either the lens or the battery source died. Well, I brought it to a repair shop (specializing in other electronics but they've fixed a ps2 or two as well) and they finally got back to me. They said it's indeed the lens and they can put in a new one for about $75. First of all, do you agree that if it shut off and won't turn on again (not even the red light), it's likely the lens? Reason I ask is they don't speak the best of english and are kinda busy so I wanna make sure firstly their assessment is a reasonable one. Secondly, do you think $75 for a new lens (and installation) is a good deal or should I try getting it elsewhere? Maybe I should try buying one myself on ebay or frys or wherever and asking them to put it in?
I did think about just saying screw it since I'll be updating to the PS3 soon anyway, but I figure even after I get my ps3, it may not play AVI's by itself and the SMS Media Player won't work for it. Either way, having my PS2 around wouldn't be a bad idea. Besides, I wanna play God of War II and more Burnout Dominator now, along with watching AVI anime on it, so PS3 will probably have to wait.
So what do you think?
