Version 1.3 has been out for quite some time, and 1.2 has obviously been out much longer.
Anyone made/can make a cracked exe for either version? I don't like using my original dvds.....

No crack exists, Tages protection + loads of custom checks I believe by Ascaron. You'll have to wait, and wait, and wait...........

Well, for some reason, I can't get DSO to run stabily with the no-cd/back-up cd exe's, for version 1.0 (actually for version 1.013 something). Not sure if its me, my PC or what, didn't have these problems with the original, but I did have the most recent patches installed...... Every time I go to collect a special upgrade item, the game goes all glitchy, and crashes......

Sounds like a crack problem, there was a crackfix for the retail game:

http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/?d=2006&f=rld-dsof!rar

Is this the one you are using? If not then that explains the problems, also the original crack needed the DVD in the drive the crackfix does not!

I've used all of them.
There are 2, the original, which didn't bypass the constant DVD checks, the one that doesn't require DVD checks, and the 'german profile'.
I think the patches resolved some of the issues with my system, as I don't have these problems when I use DVD, and newest patch version... but, can't use newest version, without crack....

I've even tried several software programs, to try and emulate the DVD from the original, can't seem to manage to get any to work. Typically, I don't have this problem, just download the newest patch, and crack for it, and works good enough to not bother with cd anymore...

You have to accept that not all patches will be cracked! The DOX scene is not as active as it once was, very few groups now bother with DOX :(

There are lots of older patches that have never been cracked and most likely won't be, so you just have to wait unfortunatley and hope someone/group cracks it!

Yup, I remember huge updates on all the three sites, on daily basis.Hope that the DOX scene will be back some day. It's more needed for updates than the original releases, as today games are released too damn early, buggy as hell, just to make a quick buck. The beta-testing departments are vastly ignored, highly underpaid, and in some cases even non-existent or highly undermanned. It's like no onecares anymore how the game would turn out.SIgh...

In my opinion we (the purchaser) are in fact the Beta testers!

As you rightly say, games are released these days with bugs etc and it is the public who report them, and then we see a patch released.

I believe most game companies do this on purpose to save money on paying testers etc.

Certainly worth considering isnt it? ;)

You must be right, Grumpy. Otherwise I can't explain such indolence.Of course the games in our days also worth around 10 hour of play.
Errr... I've spent months on Ultima, Might and Magic and Wizardry, on the Black Isle games or the first C&C and RA. What happened with the famous advertising from Interplay(I know they went bankrupt, but still sthe slogan remains): By gamers for gamers?.
Hell you finish most of the new releases in days, that if you don't encounter bugs or the AI was artificially buffed(because that's difficulty for you in our days).

I think it all started with publishers getting fed up with all the piracy and when they saw the DOX scene die out (at least its coming back now). They simply thought like this: Release the game somewhat buggy (MP not working, serious crashing bugs etc), have a patch ready upon release and release it on the same day or very close after the release for all legit customers. So since many patches never get cracked its a strategy that makes people buy games to get the latest bug fixes etc. After that I guess it became a habit and a way to save money on beta testers.

But with the DOX scene coming back I can't see the same reason for it. Add the fact that customers feels screwed over and wait longer and longer before buying any games. They simply wait until 3-4 patches has been released before buying any games (atleast I mostly do).

Actually, the publishers don't care about piracy that much these days. At least not EA. Its some type of new policy :)
