Shareware Cracking

Alright..where to begin....

So there's this shareware program that i've been trying to crack for a while now.. it's not been going well. I use ollydbg and w32dasm. I have tried to get softice but my internet isn't fast enough to dl it(damn dial up). It is a shareware program that all you have to do is enter the correct code to unlock the rest of the game, so I have to make a keygen for it correct? All the keygen tutorials i've looked at involve using softice, which I can't get, and programs that require you to enter a key and username. I'm not sure how to make the switch... Also, when I try to open the .exe file in olly I get the error that it isn't a valid PE file..which means it has a PE header? It was made in '97(the game), so it's a tad bit old. As far as I can tell, no one has cracked this program. I've searched EVERYWHERE for tuts on cracking it, cracks for it, and cracking tutorials for programs not requiring a username, but with no luck.

Any ideas? Recomendations? Flaming? I'm open to anything...:confused:

If the game was released in 1997, you won't be able to find new copies;search on Ebay to get a second-hand copy...
